Got this week the information from my AMAG dealer in Switzerland that Škoda is working on porting software 4.x for older enyaq’s too. Or at least the possible features to 3.x. But not official yet. So, it seems they are listening and working on it! Thank you for your active voice!

That’s an empty promise. Had a lot of those from VAG the last couple of years. Ask them to put it in the buying contract that your 3.x car gets an upgrade to 4.x within a year or else they have to trade it in. They’ll probably backtrack then.

 Hello Mathias, it's a great video, thank you very much for it! You have what the need for updates like. e.g. "preheating", turning the beta software into the first real release and fulfilling the update promises made by VAG/Skoda/CARIAD/ are 100% correct. The fact that Skoda does not communicate at all on this topic is really reprehensible from the perspective of “customer loyalty”.

Matthias, I fully support you here. Thank you for yout efforts and persistence. What I would like to add is that e-Mobility changed the way we see cars and SW updates should be something normal here. I mean, look at Tesla, they are working on SW updates monthly if not even more often... And I think that when Skoda was developing Enyaq they should have in mind already that SW updates will be needed and HW should be good enough for some time, not that they say no SW updates due to HW change... Tesla manages to put updates on their cars. But ok, we can't change the HW that they used but even here Skoda made some questionable decisions. And comparing old phones to new electric cars is just wrong... Times changed and the way we see cars now also changed due to bigger infotainment systems. Like you said, technology is progressing, and manufacturers must follow this with SW as well. And the reply from Skoda... C'mon :) Throwing sand in our eyes... and one thing about the Smart apps bundle... Tesla makes Netflix work, KZbin, etc... and Skoda can't even make those two simple apps to work... this is a joke, really...

From Skoda’s ME3.2 video kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXXPn3mtoddjiLM, quote at min 4:05 “There are some updates during the year.” “Improving functionalities,… We are making the customers more happy with the car” “It’s pretty much the same as with a smartphone”. Too bad, a smartphone receives OS updates for several years.

Thanks Matthias! I appreciate that you keep us posted, as VAG is not willing to do so. It's hard to understand aftermarket strategy of VAG. Do they really believe that non-existent communication helps them to increase or even retain their current market share in an ever-increasing competitive EV business. If I have understood, their inability to update their software on existing EV cars concerns all MEB platform cars Audi, Skoda, VW (pre 2024 models). So, we are talking about quite large number of ME3 SW version customers. I kind of understand, that SW version 4 and beyond cannot be updated to ME3 cars due to changes in hardware? But there are cars delivered from the factory, that has SW versions 3.1, 3.2, 3.5 and 3.6. If VAG is not able to provide OTA updates, they should arrange an update program through authorized service shops.

It does indeed work. Open OBD11, connect with car, go to Modules, go to 8C -> Output tests -> PTC heater (8037). Set timer to 300 seconds, and activate. Makes it even more clear that preheating by button is already there and very simple to do.
@GiZzmu
@GiZzmu Жыл бұрын
I can confirm this, and it works. But I didnt manage to start output test while driving. It said I had to open the hood. But I managed to do it while driving last year when I was testing it first time. You can also set a different temperature, and if you are stillstanding you se under "consumption" that you use 5,0-6kWh/h more. Battery temperature sensor incresed from 0° to 12° in about 10min. when testing it.. But I am unsure if you are only using PTC heater and not heatpump together.. When you are charging in winter, PTC heater also activates while charging heating battery to 21°, so battert pre-heating DOES exist. We just dont have the function to turn it on in the software. And I cant understand why.

Thanks for your reply. Can we use different values with this timer e.g. 600 seconds or 150? Is there any control over the power-output of the heater? Can i stop a once started "output test"?

Thanks for you video very informative, I will be changing my EV this year currently Polestar 2 (2021) enjoying over the air updates for the last 2.5 years that have improved the car considerably. I have been watching your videos as the Enyaq 85x is on my list of options. Your video has made me question if I should remove the Enyaq as I do not think a vehicle that does not have an effective and demonstrated software update process in 2024 is not a viable option. I will keep watching to see what develops. I have a couple of months before I need to commit. I hope you have some good news going forward for 3 series SW and a demonstrated series 4 software process. The only constant in SW is the knowledge that it will need correcting.

I full agree that one can't expect to get new hardware for the car. However, the software should have been updated as promised in the same steps as it was done in production. Lesson learned: don't buy a BEV from VW-group and especially not if it is branded Skoda. We meanwhile agree to the saying: if you want poor customer care buy a VW but if you are looking for horrible customer care then buy a Skoda. Just as a side note: the Ford Diesel we had before got software updates just not OTA but whenever it was in for service. The last one was when it turned 7.

Sold a Model Y today to a friend of mine. He asked me about my Enyaq, I also showed him your channel, especially your last videos. Even though he watched the new features in the 85 Enyaq, he was turned off by how VAG/CARIAD/Skoda is now actually treating their existing customers. Even though the Model Y is ugly, and I really don’t like it and looks like a fish bowl, they actually improve ALL their cars with time and actually do something with feedback. Maybe they don’t communicate with words, but they are at least communicating with ACTUAL UPDATES. When will they actually learn in Wolfsburg? Moral of the story, Tesla made a sale today and VAG didn’t.

I tend to be very loyal to VAG group. I've been using only VAG group cars since 1994. Some 4 audis, 3 škodas, some 5 vws. Now škoda enyaq (because I didn't like the touch buttons and strange interior of vw id's). So I can really be regarded as very loyal. And I was willing to buy a new škoda (85 RS or L&K). But seeing the ongoing attitude of VAG/Škoda to the current owners, the absolute lack of willingness to suport their current users, so many false and not delivered promises, ignorance, in addition I have more than 8 service visits with my 1.5 year old enyaq with some 6 warranty repairs and now waiting for battery module replacement, I will say - they managed to make me reconsider if I have really trusted the right brand. As many of you I don't like teslas. I have m3 LR as a second car and I don't really like it. It feels like a class lower car. (Except power and speed). But it has less problems and it costs much less. And if I will move to tesla y instead of new enyaq it is a very big probability I won't ever come back to VAG..

@@TheAShkins Exactly, even though I probably will never go Tesla, I really do consider a different brand as my next car instead of VAG. It’s a pity, VAG always built proper cars, and in general their service was always good, but it’s this recent attitude of them that can make me go south very quickly from this brand.

Yep, I went Tesla for exactly this reason even though the Enyaq was my first choice and I would have re-ordered the 2024 model after delays to my original order. @enyaq_gorm
@enyaq_gorm Жыл бұрын
I went the opposite way. I had a Tesla Model 3 which I bought brand new. It arrived filthy and with a long list of faults (ranging from a window that wouldn't fully close to multiple grains of sand under the paint). It took Tesla 6 months before they would even start fixing these (due to delays in getting parts) and for the rest of the time I owned it they had it back at least once every month for more repairs. Eventually they lost interest and just stopped fixing things. The software looked pretty but was appalling and unsafe, the car used to carry out emergency stops for no reason (shadows from bridges and trees was a common reason). They just said the software was in beta and would get better over time. I sold it and bought the Enyaq. The software hasn't been updated for a year now but the car just works - muich better than my experience with Tesla where I got updates every few weeks but they usually broke things as often as they fixed them. Being in Tesla facebook groups still I see this story continues to this day. When I bought my Enyaq Skoda were really clear with me and said there *might* be OTA updates but it was not guaranteed.

Hi Matthias, I did as mentioned last time around and posted on LinkedIn regarding this issue, to VW, Skoda and their software house - the Procurement community I am part of threw up some support to the comment, but, from VAG, not a squeak, no sign they have even seen it despite being tagged on the post - not that I expected it to be honest! PS - those new apps, not working on 3.2 either. Oh.. and I won't be upgrading for another three years... company cars are no longer replaced on 2 and 3 year cycles... unless one is a VAG employee!

I have heard that people who have used OBD dongle to look car there are everything that you need for battery preheating but some reason it's not activated. I got my car with SW 3.6 and it works really well is it same car that people with much older SW version i would say it's not and still it has sold as same. Also someone told that earliest model infotainment has Snapdragon 820 processor so it was like 5 year old HW already when installed aka heavily outdated.

3:32 this is a BS comment and I am sorry you had to read that. That statement was true in 2004. Right now every manufacturer PROMISES you software agreement. Some manufacturers even sell cars without bare functions and promise them via OTA (Fisker Ocean). If they would decide to keep physical buttons to control my climate I would not expect a software fix to help with the display delay. It's exactly like you said later. They created the issue and it's their job to fix that. The problem is they decided to fix that with new HW and not bother to keep SW development for both branches. I am getting updates for my iPhone and Pixel almost every month... and they cost me a fraction of the price I paid for my Enyaq. As you said, Skoda's statement is one big BS. I never expected any OTA updates for my Saab 93... but it was eighteen years ago. I was a huge Skoda advocate... and now I am leasing Smart because if I can't trust them, at least I will pay half of the price

Well, cars have received software updates for more than 20 years. This would be done during service and you would not notice the change as this was typically minor bug fixes and improvements you would not notice. You would not get a new GUI/HMI or have any new function, but cars from the late 90´s received software update. I bought my first VAG car after 30 years as a driver, 20 of those with BMW. As you chatGDP say, I will never buy another VAG car again in my life.
@MattsPaddock
@MattsPaddock Жыл бұрын
I complete agree on your response to "cars didn't receive updates before, why they should now." This kind of thinking is just wrong and regressive, because you need to have social/economic/technological context when having this conversation, otherwise it's just empty words. We had a dial-up rotary phone 30 years ago, and look where we've are today. Everything changes, there's not a comparable milisecond of today's time to any other milisecond in the history, even if it's as close as one year ago. Škoda even doubled down on their stance, which has even worsened in the meantime (based on things they said on Škoda EV Lounge); they completely lost me as a customer. My assumption for this fiasco is the following: 1. They're locked up by third-party vendors or by some other, for this case, really unfavorable contracts 2. CARIAD/VAG (or Škoda internally) doesn't want you to waste resources on this "overhaul." It's not necessarily one from the ground up, but it's most likely a significant one, which is even more profound with the new MY2024 lineup 3. Some very trivial technical HW/SW hurdle, but a proprietary one 4. All of it combined This conversation needs to come to Klaus Zellmer, and he needs to address these issues personally. He's posting very frequently LinkedIn on other Škoda topics, which from a PR perspective is entirely understandable, but he needs to do some damage control on this one.

I agree with the company that existing cars should not massively change after the purchase. They never did. Tesla may update its SW like an iPhone app because it really is an iPhone app, their progress on the hardware is non-existent. Škoda is different. While the 2024 Enyaq looks the same, the hardware inside is substantially different. You just cannot expect the old Enyaqs to be the same as the new ones. Not to mention that such a service would obviously slow down the sale of the new Enyaqs. It is good enough that car companies are not putting time bombs into cars guaranteeing that one has to buy a new one after X years but to actively prevent people from preferring newer models and facelifts would be wrong for the finances and for the progress, too. The 2024 Enyaq has to be better than the previous one, it is called progress.
