RoughAnimator is a really good app. It’s not TVpaint, but I have done some smaller jobs on it. It’s a breeze, I love it! There are rumours there is a version of TVpaint coming to iOS. Which judging by the android version could be really good. But for the size I still need a Cintiq on a desk if I’m animating TV or feature. IPad is for TVC or short work at best.

There was a version of Photoshop Touch I really liked. They discontinued that and Adobe draw. Which I really liked too. The new apps really require you to have a CC account. The Verge video hinted at there being a one time price, which could be good

I second what Alex M said, RoughAnimator is the most robust animating app I've seen for the iPad. I don't know if it'd be any good for big animation projects, but it gets the job done, and I've enjoyed it so far. We definitely need a bigger, better animating app

As a hobbyist, I can't afford to pay for the subscription. That really bums me out because I really like the power that adobe programs have, but I can't afford to pay the steep price tag on something that doesn't make me money. I'd be happy if there were some way to have a hobbyist version that had less stuff but was a one-time payment. But with how much money they're likely making through their monthly subscriptions, I doubt that will ever happen. So we take to the boats matey.

Meanwhile, in practicaltown, Affinity and Procreate and avoid the Adobe Tax all together. If they do want to start a release from scratch, they're actually coming from behind on the affinity programs and procreate. Isn't the best program for the professional the one that's there and works? The relationship between Apple and Adobe already feels contentious in the desktop space and for the price of the Adobe CC subscription, you can almost buy an iPad each year. Props to the smaller developers to fill the void - now we just need a dominant force in the animation space.

I doubt abt. it. If one-time-pay only Ipad version is as good as the Desktop. Then it will be a market crisis in the Desktop business because of the price big differences. If it is not, it is meaningless to port an iPad version. If Adobe makes both iPad & Desktop are one-time-pay only. Then the Stock value may go suffering a big impact. When something is done, it is hard to turn back. Of course, I am not saying that it absolutely no way to happens. But it will be really interesting to see: Your left-hand fight against to your right-hand ??? Make them both stronger or being paralysis to each other ???? Meanwhile, there is already a forerunner as a big brother in iOS ecosystem --- Serif !

What we learned from Savage (Procreate) and Serif (Affinity) is that one-time purchase system always works well. The developer gets paid and praised by the public for not being greedy. If this requires a full CC subscription, then no, i’m not going to use it. But of they make it a one-time purchase, or a freemium model like current Adobe iPad apps, or a standalone subscription with a pretty cheap price, then I will probably consider my stance on this one...

Hi Brad. I think it’s arriving late. For me, an illustrator, photoshop has never been a nice option, because of many things, but the main one is that is the worst program in taking pencil pressure and nuances. Sketchbook, clip studio, procreate, even painter handles the pressure more accurate than photoshop. So, I will welcome it if they make an ipad version, but only if they make pressure capture better and make more natural drawing experience. And for photos, I have affinity.

This is great new for sure, but I wish Adobe would do a drawing app that is between Photoshop sketch and Photoshop. Photoshop is way too much for an IPad, and Adobe Sketch is great but a bit poor, it could use some more tools and improvement. I also wonder if Photoshop app would have the animation timelinelike the desktop version, that would be so good. But in the meantime there is Paintstudio pro from Lucky Clan, which is really similar to Photoshop for illustration and imho one of the most underappreciated drawing apps for IOS.

At first, I was really excited about the subscriptions it really gave me a standing chance to try out a bunch of apps that I wouldn't have been able to afford. But now three years into my business it just feels like they're piling up and I can't catch a break. With that said out of all my subscriptions, Adobe is the most worth while.
@johnnydfred6 жыл бұрын
Adobe knows it has to hit this out of the park. That said, apps like Affinity Photo and Designer (!!!) and heavy lifters like ProCreate are going to be tough to dislodge in a lot of users’ hands because of...subscriptions. Serif, the makers of Affinities, has the best model. Paraphrased, “buy a year for 50 (Mac)/20 (iPad), and if you don’t like our next ( annual) release, just don’t upgrade.” This is the best for the user, because the developer has every incentive to keep innovating - to staying competitive. Adobe, with it’s subscription model, has no incentive to improve: you don’t think their next new features are worth the $$, tough cookies, user. Pay us every month anyway, or get off the bus. That type of approach, added to the hefty annual cost, doesn’t cut it for me. I’ll support the different, the outliers, the innovators.

Always love your videos, Brad. Interesting to follow how this is going. I still can’t see it changing anything for me at this point - I feel thoroughly equipped for illustration with Procreate, Affinity, and Artstudio Pro, and I like what I’m using. Procreate in particular is a very comfortable and familiar workspace and toolset for me. I know the lack of Photoshop has been some folks’ biggest barrier or downside to using the iPad though, so I’m sure it’ll be great for people that need and want it. One thing that seemed odd to me, the video on The Verge kept talking about how you “can’t load PSDs on the iPad” as one of the reasons for why Photoshop for iPad is so great. The thing is, Procreate, Affinity, Artstudio Pro, and Medibang can all load PSDs, and have had that capability for a while. I would guess a number of other iOS art apps have that feature too - those are just the ones I know best. It might be new for the files to sync over Adobe Cloud in the way they described later in the video, but the ability to load PSDs even from desktop to iPad just isn’t remotely a new thing now, and it seemed weird for them to tout it as a kind of unique selling point. Maybe I’m missing something they were trying to say there? Or maybe I’m just super used to the Mac convenience of airdrop, and this is still relatively hard to do from a Windows computer to the iPad?

First of all, thank you for all of the reviews on the different tablets!! I've been wanting to get into (down the line) a tablet to start getting into drawing again. carrying around a big sketch pad is getting to be a hassle, and it's very dirty (yay pencil smudges!) I was wondering if you're planning on trying the google pixel slate when it comes out? My choices right now are between the ipad pro and the pixel slate. I'm not sure if procreate is something i can get on slate, but maybe it'll have other apps that work just as well? I can only hope haha. I'd be using it for MOSTLY sketching/drawing (maybe down the line doing regular art on it, but i don't like being attached to my desktop any time i'd want to draw) but i also plan to use some other leisure apps on it as well. Would love to hear your personal thoughts if you're planning on getting/trying a slate out! Any videos i've seen so far involving the slate pen have seemed to be kind of laggy, but none of them are really geared towards artists either.

Kyle Webster showed Project Gemini on stage. More than an 'upgraded' Phtoshop Sketch, seems the brand new Photoshop CC for iPad with more brush options: all current Photoshop brushes, vector brushes (he used them for inkink), and natural media (thick brushes and watercolor brushes with water physics). On web, Adobe says it will release Gemini first in iPad. Then Windows 10 and last Andoid. No clarification about being free, subscription based or one-time purchase. Adobe also showed Photoshop on iPad (the 2nd gen one i guess), running psd files with lots and lots of layers. It seems the first iteraction will come with full brushes / selection / masks support. Currently, it lakcks text, timeline, undo history and shorcut options. Currently, it seems more 'ready for release' Gemini than Photoshop. I hope Gemini will come as one time payment or for free. I don't care about full Photoshop even i'm currently a CC suscriber for graphic design work. I already use Affinity Photo on iPad and Photoshop on Mac, even Astropad sometimes and a Luna Display crossing the sea to my home. For drawing i prefer Clip Studio, Procreate even Paintstorm Studio; sometimes on iPad Pro, sometimes in Mac with a big and 100% calibrated screen. I also hope those new apps will allow to 'Save as', not restricted to Adobe Cloud files. There's a 'share' button on top right corner. So there's 'some' hope. Anyway, those are very big and welcome news, even if you don't use Photoshop. Thanks to Savage and Serif for showing the way.
