Another great perspective video. I really love these videos with the realistic sounds. The effort you put into these really shows. Keep em coming please.

the 7.5-8.0 magnitude starts slowly and gets intense ( mentioning the intense ground motion that made the lights flicker) Why does earthquakes with higher magnitudes start slowly and rises by moment to moment ?
@whoever64582 ай бұрын
I don't know if all of them do but I was initially asleep when the biggest earthquake I've ever been in happened, which was only a 7.4. I woke up rolling from on top of my bed to under it and it was already going pretty strong at that point. I did notice that the bigger ones, including the other 7s that I've been in in Southern California, tend to have waves of shaking where it slows down and you think it might almost be over to increasing again, but never as much as the first good shake that either presumably woke you up or, if you were already awake, made you decide that you should take cover. Most of those largest shakes happen very close to the beginning of the earthquake but probably a very large earthquake would have an initial P wave that might wake you up or otherwise your attention before the worst shaking arrives and it depends on how close you are to the epicenter always. I was in one earthquake in the 5s when I lived in Peru and it seems like those subduction earthquakes are more likely to start out smaller than they become later but I only felt that single earthquake when I was there. Still, it was noticeably different that the hundreds and hundreds of earthquakes I've been in while living in California. The most noticeable difference is that those earthquakes start by sending you upwards and then side to side later. I couldn't tell you which is stronger because that earthquake I felt was just barely strong enough to notice that it moved up and down first, which I found odd, since the other earthquakes I've been in have been mostly side to side.

Oh yeah that was the last earthquake in the 7s I was in. It was mostly weird here because it lasted so long but wasn't particularly strong at any point but it did get a person's attention for sure. I almost didn't feel the 6.4 before it because I initially thought my powerful fan was shaking my bed like it always does but then I realized the shaking was coming from a different direction. I was quite ironic that I had been looking at the map of the recent earthquake as that earthquake was occurring. lol

Your indicator on the MM scale is ahead of the posted magnitude.

@@michelefritchie6198 because the MM doesn’t always match. You can have a magnitude 5 earthquake and feel a shaking intensity of VII if you’re right on top of a shallow depth earthquake 🙂
