This video made me emotional. It took me a long time not to be upset about the racial issues we, as African Americans face. My grandmother did not allow me as a child to know what it was to be prejudiced. I didn't learn our history until I was 27 years old and in college. Needless to say that I was traumatized and hated white ppl. It took me a long time to get where I'm today. I do not hate anyone anymore. I wonder if there's a larger story at work here as well. A story about the economic system we live in. A system that has allowed working class wages to remain essentially unchanged in real terms over the past 30 years while the costs of goods and services have gone up. It's a system that has allowed the fruits of productivity gain to be captured almost entirely by those who are already rich, making them even richer. The American dream dies when everything goes to the top 1% and the rest of us stagnate within a hardscrabble life. When dreams die, anger and frustration can move in to take their place. Yes, there has always been hate and violence, but I wonder if the increases we have been seeing lately have been brought on by the breakdown of that social contract we used to call the American dream.
