You guys don't think it's a big deal because you didn't think it through. Imagine you sink $250k into a $500k build and 3 years later, you're still not in your home. Think about it. You're paying for a construction loan AND the place you're staying at. You most certainly didn't budget for this. All of the additional driving to and from the new house most certainly costs more in gas and wear and tear on your car. As someone who went through taking my house down to the studs and adding a second floor, I can tell you it's super stressful. Hopefully, they were only giving the builder money as they finished things and didn't give him all the money up front.

LMAO!!! My dream was to leave Jacksonville. Left 27+ years ago after 34 'interesting' years. A mixed bag of good, bad and nightmares. I read where a local real estate attorney has a website rating the area builders in NE FL according to lawsuits and customer complaints - quite insightful and some truly interesting stories. Some of the big national names are among the worst.

We just did a major renovation. We used a lawyer and drew up a contract that divided the job into segments, and when a segment was done, we paid the contractor for it. Covid shortages slowed the job down, but basically it went smoothly.

They filled a complaint with the city about crooked scammers that worked my parents over with lies and hidden cost, some had valid contractors license. (the city employee accepted the complaint said "Welcome to Florida". They sold the house and moved out of state; this was in the early 1990's. Nothing has changed.

Better take your camera up into the attic crawl space and look carefully in the hidden spaces, missing pieces, Nails instead of screws, Timber that doesn't look good, and all the things that tie the roof down, perhaps hiring an inspector from out of County and not friends of anyone, search for someone who finds lots of complaints to pop in and do a quick inspection as they drive by if they could without bankrupting you with another fee... DR Horton homes is a financial dream come true on Wall Street, with cardboard exterior walls, low bed, no qualification construction Crews always with a bear for Supreme wisdom as in many States at this time. Make sure you want to ask questions before you get started, like is it already built and fully inspected before you sign on the dotted line after racing to beat anyone else to the signature page.
