The 101-year-old Maine Lobster Lady

Virginia Oliver, who is 101 years old, has lived in Rockland her whole life and has been lobstering on and off for the last 93 years.

I KNOW THIS WOMAN IN REAL LIFE! Really surreal seeing her here. My Grandmother Gretchen lived across the street from Ginny in Rockland in the last parts of her life and they were good friends. Ginny and her family are very kind people who were incredibly nice and supportive to my family when my Grandmother was in hospice and later passed away in 2009. They helped us get through a very rough time in our lives.

This woman was born two years after my grandparents, whom i lost in 2016. Grandpa almost made 98. She reminds me of them when they were healthy. That spirit. These ppl breathe life back into us if we sit and listen. ❤️

My mother is in her early 60s and she is one of the only people her age she knows who are lucky enough to have both her parents still alive, my grandfather is in his late 80s but sadly recently went into a nursing home with Alzheimer’s. My grandmother is in her mid 80s and still completely independent. Lives in the house her and my grandfather built 60 years ago, drives to visit my grandfather 3 days a week and other days she goes grocery shopping, to the hair salon, or to brunch with friends and family, including her 96 year old sister. Even though her grandchildren are in their 20s and 30s she still makes sure to have us over for dinner if our parents are out of town, something she’s been doing since we were teens staying home alone for the first time and despite the fact that most of us are not living with our parents anymore! She’s a gem.
