The difference was: they had to have a job & or a sponsor. They had to go through a medical screening process. They had to take & pass citizenship classes & learn English. Our taxes did not provide: housing, food, & medical. Immigrants had to be processed & pay for legalization procedures. They had to respect the communities they live in without demanding services. I guess it is quite difficult to understand till the problem knock ( or slam ) on your door. I won't be happy if my township suddenly is full of migrants from the border that have lack of background checks, sleeping on the streets, lots of children walking on the way back home from school or having to share space in there with them. Back then when my grandfather came to the states, he never rely on the government but himself. I am Peruvian. Despite my country is the second worldwide producer of cocaine, our country never had the high criminality rate like currently we have. Why? Inmigration without any control coming from Venezuela. Extorsion, murders, rape, human traffic, all kind of crime committed at any time is our rutine now. Our police do not know what to do.
