How awful! Why didn't the authorities contact victim's families? I can't imagine how painful this has been for them losing their son and having to look all over the place to find him deceased.

They would have. But the disaster happened and with news and social media people usually find out sooner from those outlets than authorities can. Remember they are working with many people dead and injured. Identifying and getting contact information for 45 people takes time. This happened at 3:15 am and the families were looking for loved ones only a few hours later.

@@jmm8305yes they need to contain the scene organize sections into those living and those dead it like you said was 3am it seems cold but everyone was also in shock also as I worked in the hospital when I was younger you had to follow procedure find social workers and chaplains to help my heart goes out to everyone such a senseless tragedy

I don't think they did find out quickly from social media though. Why wasn't someone assigned to gather personal info and contact next of kin? They had families calling LE and hospitals all over the city trying to get info m and emergency contact info was probably available on their driver's license or state ID.

@ The next morning they knew that their son didn’t come home that night/morning. They knew from the media that the event had happened. Don’t know if it was social media or news or whatever. They tried to contact their son. Then they tried to contact his friends. They found out from the friends. Not every adult’s friends are necessarily going to have contact information for their friends parents. Likely the friends were in shock. It takes time to identify bodies and get contact information. I’m not saying everything was handled correctly but I’m saying it takes time. For them to identify process and get next of kin information on 45 people is going to take longer than a few hours. Also FBI took over the situation and they are not going to contact family and give information until they feel like they have the right information. It’s a delicate balance and it’s just not going to happen in a few hours.
