I really love this series. I have tried unsuccessfully to find the Michigan Asylum for the Deaf, Dumb and Blind Institution's self-publication of the Michigan Mirror for December 1885. It includes an article chronicling the diphtheria deaths for my twin great-grand aunt & uncle Grace & Rice Hagerman who were 8 yrs old. Could you provide some guidance of where to search by chance? I did check the Chronicling America LOC, but it only shows Crawford Avalanche Feb 1885. The Clarke historical library redirected me to the way back machine, but only included the flint mirror beginning in 1964. Of course I checked the Google books site also. I need fresh ideas to help point the path...

It sounds like you've searched all the right places. Here are a few more suggestions. Run a Google search on the following including the quotation marks where I've placed them: Michigan Asylum for the Deaf, Dumb and Blind Institution "Michigan Mirror" The first result called 'Lost orphans: How one woman found the forgotten students of Michigan School for the Deaf' sounds interesting. Perhaps this is you or the case you are working on? I would also check JSTOR and the Genealogy Center at the Allen County Public Library in Indiana. Good luck!

@GenealogyGems Yes, that article stems from my paternal grandmother's neice, Kay, who had the white stone. I found this article to be very moving(I'm not emotional, but this really made my heart sink and well up with tears of sorrow). There was also mention of a book, but I haven't been able to find a book either. 😢 I suppose the baton is passed over to me to continue to keep the "lost orphans" story alive. Since this paper was self illustrated within the boundaries of the institution, I've had great difficulty tracing its exisistance. I did uncover a newspaper named the Michigan Mirror, but in the 1900s for other areas, not this instuition per se. I will definitely heed your recommendations using the other sources you've provided. I can't express enough of how much I appreciate the talents of you and all the other folks on your team and in the industry. Truly magnificent! I started this journey when I was 17 as part of a senior year project a teacher assigned. It was the greatest gift I had ever been fortunate enough to receive.

@GenealogyGems If you have an opportunity, please read the article. I was also on a mission for understanding the "twins" connection when I was in my mid 20's. I recall my paternal grandmother's mention of her *father and her aunt & uncle being a set of twins but only knew their names. So, my 2nd great paternal grandparents actually had 2 sets of twins: *Leon & Leo (he passed about age 5 from a head injury) Rice & Grace (they passed at age 8) There was 1 brother in between, named Arthur. Ironically, my dad had 2 sets of twins, though with 2 different women. Twins girls (me) Twin boy & girl
