Nice footage in such a dark place! Lighting is much more challenging than those who aren't familiar with photography or videography realize. We're continuing to have fun touring the national parks with you guys!

When I was a kid (1965), my uncle took me and my brother to the cave. The “Snowball Room” was a dining area which also allowed smoking. As you can imagine, the smoking along with the thousands of visitors caused the “snowball crystals to die off. I revisited the site last year and was both amazed and disappointed in how much damage had been to to the entire cave. Mostly by people “taking”souvenirs of the formations(breaking them off). There was also a boat tour on the river back then, which is now sealed off. Glad you enjoyed your visit.

Wow! That really is sad. It is pretty amazing how much we have learned on this tour that they USED TO do at our National Parks until they figured out it wasn't best for the land or resources.

LOVE that national park! The campground was surprisingly great for a National Park. Did you guys notice on your hikes "above ground" those signs that gave the descriptions of the cave features 100s of feet below you? I thought that was so cool.

Yes! Mammoth was a fantastic park to explore. There weren't any of those signs on the hike we did, but several people had mentioned them. Do you recall which hike you saw the signs above the cave below? Thanks for watching! 👍 - Howard

Yes we love this place, we were here 2 years ago and wanted to come back for some bike riding and hiking. When you get back to South Dakota check out Jewel Cave National Memorial, it is in Custer. It is a dry cave like Mammoth but so different.

I love that place. I was there in April, 2021. I did the cave tour and I hiked some trails including the Green River Bluff. I also went to Diamond Caverns too. Kentucky also has one of the highest number or caves as well. There’s 45,000 caves in this country, not including Alaska.

We had a drug problem in WV this year. We drug our RV to New River Gorge for 10 days. We went to Hawks Nest S.P., Babcock S.P. and Pipestem State resort park and also saw New River Gorge. I am afraid of heights but was able to manage to walk on that cat walk under the bridge so long as I was tethered. It is an engineering mistake thing with me and heights, if that makes sense. As long as there is a safety thing I am fair with it. Great video!

@@NewstateNomads I seem to recall that Mammoth Cave was a major source of saltpeter used to make gunpowder as far back as the War of 1812. Also we’ve taken the nearby Green River Ferry to get across the river. It was pretty neat. Kentucky has quite a few ferries including the one just off exit 100 on I-75 named Clays Ferry. It’s the oldest continuously operating business west of the Appalachian Mountains

We went on the Frozen Niagra tour. I agree with you about the cave crickets. They do look too much like spiders, and I hate spiders. And, yes, they didn't tell us til the end about them. Good thing because it creeped me out. LOL

@@NewstateNomads It was really interesting seeing the different cave formations--especially Frozen Niagra. It looked to me more like a large dripping ice cream cone, but it was huge. It's a really great tour if you don't like steps, although there are several optional steps where you could go to the bottom of "Niagra." Also, it was shorter for those who don't have much time or energy for a longer tour.

I’ll stick to the above ground dog friendly trails - ha ha! We used to do some of the caves & sea caves at The Channel Islands National Park, but now they give us the creeps 😂 but I’d love to see the bats!
