@@ASMR-XI-ZUI It sounds cool first, but: if we can't accomplish anything anymore (for example by learning) we're stranded. We need to do something. We are not meaningful, we make ourselves meaningful by our actions. Competition is also a deep part of our nature. Without it there's no more motivation anymore aka depression. How advanced is that? How does a society work where everybody is so equal that no hierarchy is possible anymore? We're talking psychological socialism here...

Helping paralysed people walk is justified but a link to download a new language into the brain seems to bring in ethical questions. And there's no mention of how a new language can be "downloaded" to the brain since we don't know where knowledge is in the brain, a computer just holds information in a long list in adjacent memory locations, very fast but very simple, sequential not parallel, like pages in a book, but the brain or mind is more than pages in a book that can be rewritten or reprogrammed. Its more likely that it will be like having a smart phone attached to your head, where you can use your brain as an interface to access and store data. So you'll be more like a Borg drone in startrek, which is something dystopian, repulsive, undesirable, and not free because who controls the data, if linked to the Internet could data be easily added, altered, software updated without your control of knowledge.
@lemdixon01
@lemdixon01 3 жыл бұрын

I just hope he can follow up on those claims, neuralink for amputees is definitely possible but telepathy, controlling computers via neuralink, etc. is wayyy harder. uploading consciousness to computers isn't possible either, you can clone it, but not transfer it. Neuralink will stay a support for our brain rather than a replacement.
@magnamic5614
@magnamic5614 3 жыл бұрын
Elon has stated that it’s just another added layer to the systems already recognized by the brain. It can be turned on and off without interruption to any brain activity. In future, I believe, Elon’s claims are correct and will come to pass. Later versions of NeuraLink will be able to upload, download and store data. It’s not that the brain is holding on to any of this information, it’s the chip itself not unlike your cell phone holds all your internet searches, your photos and music. The difference here is instead of the phone NeuraLink will be that phone. At this early stage, NeuraLink can’t do what’s promised but it’s a step in the right direction for more research and development. Learning the complexity of each neural shunt or spike and what they mean or are trying to do is key, like them figuring out that certain spikes/shunts directly correlates to a pigs limb movement. Eventually, research and development will break through to learning the entirety of the human mind and what spikes correlate to actions, memories or desires, not unlike DNA sequencing. Remember, your brain will never be holding this information, it’s just passing the information on to the other systems in your body.

Helping paralysed people walk is justified but a link to download a new language into the brain seems to bring in ethical questions. And there's no mention of how a new language can be "downloaded" to the brain since we don't know where knowledge is in the brain, a computer just holds information in a long list in adjacent memory locations, very fast but very simple, sequential not parallel. Even now with smartphones, you don't own the software and they can update it without asking you. On older computers it used to give you the option and you could say yes, no, never but now you can't choose.
