What surprised me about Shotwell’s life is how simultaneously unreal and completely normal it was. She’s not really a visionary and thought academically smart, I don’t think she was brilliant but as a mum and a woman, she is outstanding as a peacemaker. She is probably very mother like to Elon’s outbursts and tantrums (I think) but still Elon is a genius and she gets to channel his energy towards positive outcomes. Elon’s lucky to have her by his side, and so are all of us!

Great bio of her. I've always wondered who she was. Inspiring story. I really appreciate the fact that she's the polar opposite of Elon. In any good organization or team you need people to serve as a counter balance and exhibit different strengths and personality traits. In my experience a lot of times Leadership desires to find people who are just like them...and that's why they fail. It's cool that Elon appreciated her expertise and different approach.

@@kurtpena5462 I’ve known about the work she has done for close to two years now. I’m deeply interested in the aerospace industry and have recently done some work in the industry. Simply put, I have always wondered why the influential work she has done has not been given the public recognition it deserves outside of the aerospace community. Honestly, if you think SpaceX could run effectively without her, most people within aerospace would laugh.

One of the many reasons to love Gwynne Shotwell is she is absolutely not woke. She understands it's all about individual qualities and personal choices. I've seen interviews where people have tried to bait her with gotcha questions or broad condemnations of "male culture" which she smoothly sidesteps or squashes, utterly refusing to play that divisive game.

I don't think people fully appreciate how good she is. Someone mentioned she was brilliant or a genius. Are you kidding. One of the most difficult things to do is to manage and develope a company from a. Startup, 11 employees to 10,000+ employees and no revenue to billions of annual revenue. Especially while managing the interface between a demanding genius of a founder who may be demanding and short tempered and hundreds of critical employees he interacts with as well as relating to and earning the respect of very bright highly driven younger employees. She must have continuously worked on and developed her business acumen to handle the dramatically changing requirements to properly develope the new knowledge and skills to successfully.manage a rapidly growing and evolving business. Very difficult to accomplish that while dealing with rapidly evolving technical requirements as well. I think there's are different types of genius, and definitely is one.

My youngest daughter is an oil field journeyman pipefitter. This is still a "man's job" field and women have to prove their skills if they want to succeed. Adding to the problem, she's "Drop Dead Gorgeous." The male team workers have learned from experience that pretty girls are hired for their looks and can't do the work so they have to cover for her. That's not the case with my daughter, she holds her own and can usually out lift many of the guys. She maintains a gym membership and works out three times a week when she's not working 7 tens. She strives to be the best in her field and has earned her stripes. Her management knows her work and places her where "just good" isn't enough.
@richb22293 жыл бұрын
She has certainly been the secret sauce. Although her recent comments about the LOX shortages in FL and her comment about Starship may not being completely reusable are indications she MAY be at the end of her run at SpaceX. She has done very well at SpaceX and will do wherever she goes next.
Musk probably hired her specially for her ability to calm him down when he gets crazy. She mentioned in a very recent interview where Musk was insatisfied with the team's struggles to get Falcon Heavy ready and he wanted to just cancel the entire project right there. And Shotwell basically said "We're not doing that, we already have lauches purchased on that vehicle". And the rest is history, Falcon heavy lauched flawlessly in the flight and in the many that followed.

I’ll be impressed when SpaceX does something that has never been done before. Everything they’ve done has already been done by other companies: * Reusable rockets: done in the 80s * Vertical take off and landing: done in the 80s * Delivering stuff to the ISS: Souyez has been doing that for decades * Satellite internet: HughesNet has been available for about two decades What has SpaceX succeeded in that hasn’t been done before already?
@trickeruniverse1979 Жыл бұрын
* Reusable rockets done in the 80s ?, you mean the space shuttle that after it flew it cost more to refurbish than making a new one ? Is that what you’d call reusable ? * Vertical take off and landing of an orbital class rocket has NEVER been done till the falcon 9. You can’t possibly be dumb enough to compare that to anything The Mcdouglas rocket did can you now * delivering stuff to the ISS is nothing New and no one ever said it was. * satellite internet is also nothing new but satellite constellations are a first because of how much you need to launch which wouldn’t be possible without the launch cadence of the Falcon 9. Amazon proposed the same thing around the same time space X this but haven’t launched even 1. So bottom line, all what space x has achieved is extremely hard and has never been done as efficiently and at the scale they’re doing it.
