subhadeep mandal There’s a heaven and hell difference between a VP in Investment Banking Division and a VP in Tech my friend. IBD is a revenue generating division for the bank. Unfortunately, their position is much more valuable to the bank than a VP in Tech ( Engineering and other Backend Divisions). There is a considerable difference in the salary structure as well. Only people with a background in Economics or Statistics coupled with a brilliant academic record are recruited in the Investment Banking Division. Even the MBAs (with a major in Finance) from elite Indian institutions find it difficult to find their footing in divisions like IBD, GIR ( Global Investment Research), etc. Also, the “5-6” steps you mentioned so casually, people spend their entire career traversing these steps. This is coming from an employee who works for one of JPMC’s competitors. Don’t expect to find all this information on Google. 🤣🤣 And before I forget, congratulations to your friend.

subhadeep mandal It seems my argument was entirely lost on you. I was merely replying to your initial jest as to how her position is of no great importance. IITians do get recruited for Google, Microsoft and Amazon with million dollar packages. But at the end of the day it’s the major financial institutions of the world ( namely 4) that shape the global economy. It’ll literally take me months to explain about the policies that have been designed by these institutions since the 1800s. The top 5% of the global talent gets hired in the divisions I mentioned in my previous comment. In our universe( pardon me for using the term, force of habit), techies are expendable but economists are treasured. Experience, qualification and company growth have different benchmarks here. Benchmarks which have been carefully evaluated and put in place by the powers that be.

In fact I’m replying to one right now. “Engineers” ( i.e. the millennial engineer who eventually ends up in the product, services or R&D sector) still are “the” expendable talent from where I come from. You want to know why? Because they are a breed aplenty. There is literally zero dearth in supply. We are still waiting patiently for a life altering invention( something akin to a computer, phone, etc)from this insanely talented bunch. BTW my colleagues can formulate far more sustainable neural network algorithms when pitted against their tech counterparts. Anyway, it was nice talking to you. Occasionally we all need to pause and catch a glimpse of other sides of the spectrum. Thanks for humouring me. P.S: I don’t want to be rude or anything, but is this “high” that you mentioned, some kind of a new experimental drug? If that’s the case you got to let me in on it 🤣🤣
