@deadersurvival47162 жыл бұрын
@@Mecharnie_Dobbs It's very possible. To give a brief explanation of how it works (oversimplified, obviously), it's a more advanced form of a Newton's cradle's entire gimmick. The when the chain of three hits the motionless ball, the momentum, aka force, pushes the three on the other side out. The lone ball also inflicts force on the other side of the motionless ball, sending it's shockwave in the other direction, but with only enough force to send the outermost ball outward. The reason the two opposite forces don't cancel each other out is because they're acting on a still object (but one with the capacity to move), so the single ball hits, sends it's shockwave to the idle ball, who passes it along just as it gets launched away as the set of three.

I think the first part of the Wikipedia article on the Newton's Cradle (Pendulum) explains it pretty well: “The Newton's cradle is a device, usually made of metal, that demonstrates the principles of conservation of momentum and conservation of energy in physics with swinging spheres. When one sphere at the end is lifted and released, it strikes the stationary spheres, transmitting a pressure or sonic wave through the stationary spheres, thereby creating a force that pushes the last sphere upward. The last sphere swings back and strikes the nearly stationary spheres, repeating the effect in the opposite direction.” Basically it's just a demonstration of how energy is transferred, the energy of the motion and the strike transfers through all the spheres to the opposite end. At least that's how I can explain in the simple terms my limited knowledge of Physics can understand.

The concept demonstrated by this is the conversation of kinetic energy with masses undergoing totally elastic collisions. This means that every time something collides with another, all of the KE (a quantity involving mass and speed) will be transferred to the other balls. For example, when 2 balls hit the 3 other balls, the 3 balls absorb all of the kinetic energy, enough to allow 2 of the 3 balls to continue moving. It’s important to note that this is only possible as there is no kinetic energy dissipated into other forms (such as heat or deformation energy). Otherwise the balls would either stick together when they collide or retain some speed after colliding (inelastic collision). This is not to be confused with conservation of momentum, which is a similar concept

The BPM of the song is 130 bpm. The balls hit each other to the beat of the music, meaning that each beat is half of the period. 130 beats per minute mean that one beat happens every 0.462 seconds. This leads us to know that the period is twice that or 0.923 seconds. Since the period is also equal to 2pi sqrt(L / g), and since such ingenuity could only happen on the planet Earth, with a gravity of 9.8 m/s^2, we can calculate that the length of the string that the balls are attached to is 0.212 meters or 8.33 inches. xmphysics, if you still have the cradle, tell me if I got this right.
