I use rabbets AND rebates in my woodworking. The rabbets come off the table saw and the rebates come from Menards.
@BerlinTrainStation12 ай бұрын
As a big Menard's fan, I second this. I'd almost argue I use Rebates MORE than Rabbets. They're so versatile!

You actually remember to turn them in?! I always forget to get my 11% back.

I like them, and I think I like the steel versions better. They are little larger though.

I figured it may help someone. I was thinking about ways to easily break down steps of a project so they don't feel overwhelming for someone. That led to this video.

This kind of joint and half overlap are the lnes that i use the most because are effective quick and relatively easy to do with handtools a saw and chisel or straight a hand plane
@NewtonMakes2 ай бұрын
Absolutely. I thought about touching on hand tools. Maybe a follow-up video idea in the future.

I was just thinking about this very subject yesterday, I'm about to build some sliding drawers, this is perfect timing, & an excellently explained video - Thank you very much... Just don't get carried away with the humour, - ( woodworking is a serious business. haha :)

I know, right?! I'll make sure to not say things that come naturally to me. Funny enough (or not), all the stupid things I say are impromptu comments to myself and supposed to be cut. I end up keeping a few in when the video becomes too serious (or not). Go make some cool sliding drawers, and remember to frown!

So this begs the question..if you’re woodworking in Cardiff must you use a Welsh rarebit?

I'm a rank amateur, but I want to learn some new joinery. I'd love to use something fancy for a project I'm building for my wife as a gift for Christmas, but I may have to just settle for a simple rabbet (rebate?). At least it'll be a little different than usual. Thanks for the tips!
@NewtonMakes2 ай бұрын
Consider a rabbet miter joint. You could throw in some contrasting splines, such as brass.
@iandodd78282 ай бұрын
When it comes to rabbet/rebate joints, you’ve run amok (not amuck).

We had door to door encyclopedia and vaccuum salesmen
@NewtonMakes2 ай бұрын
Oh snap, we bought an overpriced vacuum from a salesperson too! I don't think the same guy...but who knows.
@demonicsquid72172 ай бұрын
There's an urban myth/story that a vacuum cleaner salesman had a sales technique where he'd throw a bag of dust/dirt on someone's floor and then vacuum it up. He did this one day without realising the town he was in had a power outage. There's a few jokes about him doing this and the housewife telling him they needed a pound/dollar for the electricity meter as they'd run out.

Would that be "Rock Solid"🤔😳 Mr Clint Newton 😂. And what's up with proper English and the Rebate, not Rabbit🐇🐰 joint 😂🤣. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧. Or should I say Across the pond 🤔🧐
@NewtonMakes2 ай бұрын
As someone who lived on both sides of the pond, I appreciate that people who say "rebate" tend to think "rabbet" is the animal "rabbit," while people who say "rabbet" think a "rebate" is a sales coupon. Next thing you know we're all talking about what "biscuits" mean. haha!
