My Grandparents lived on Severn Street. We moved to England when I was 3 and visited every year. The best memories of my life (I'm 78) are of my holidays in Belfast-----wonderful Granny and Granda. My heart is still there.

Good to see some of the new murals re-imaging the area, but important to remember what happened in recent history and it is a unique selling point of Belfast

Good to see the non-sectarian celebratory murals go up and hopefully a marker for the future of Northern Ireland that all communities can share in. The more artistic partisan and paramilitary themed murals should still stay as they do attract tourists and serve as a monument to what was then with the new murals showcasing what is now.

Interesting. Nice to hear that people are getting along better these days. In my home town, Toronto, the Orangemen's parade used to be one of the biggest parades of the year. And everyone went, Protestants and Catholics alike. But it started getting smaller in the 60s, and nowadays it's tiny. Few even know what it's about. Then again, about half the population is from India, China, Bangladesh, Philippines, and Arab countries, so ties to Britain are definitely not as important as they once were.

I would love to go and see it sometime , Orangemen from Canada frequent the Rossknowlagh parade in Donegal, Republic of Ireland which I have a video from as well. It is the only Orange parade in the Republic of Ireland.

@@nornironnomad Interesting. Donegal is one of the places from which the Irish portion of my background hails (they left in the 1840s). I do know that the Orangemen had their 200th Toronto parade in 2020. I'm actually Catholic but religion isn't such a political or hot topic in Canada. At least it hasn't been between Protestants and Catholics for many years. I think the last riots were in the 1800s. Good thing the Orange Walk/Parade is in July. Best time to come to Toronto or Canada. Montreal is definitely worth a look too. Only problem there is language is highly politicized--English Montrealers vs. French Montrealers.

Er British empire is dead mate. Countries left it in their droves post WW2. It's been whitled down to a Commonwealth and even that looks a bit ropey. Ask any English or even global historian.
