I know a small trail (about 2 miles) in Vermont that you can find tons of Easterns, I have found 50 in just under an hour and I'm not exagerating!

Awesome find Ben! Eastern Newts are one of the salamanders that have escaped me so far, but they’re such cool little animals and I’d love to find one in the wild one day! The coloration during their red eft phase is stunning, definitely no mistaking that for any other animal. The yawn was adorable, they really are cute! Great facts as always, I learned a bunch of new things. Great work! - Harrison and Evan

I used to find the eft stage all the time as a kid! I never thought to look it up and assumed they were their own species. Very cool to learn about these amazing animals!

Yeah I thought that for a long time as well, didn't realize that they are actually the same thing until I came to college!
@theflyingcrud3 жыл бұрын
@@TheWildReportOfficial honestly that kind of blew my mind to learn that. I grew up in the blue ridge mountains and actually found them fairly far from water. There are multiple springs and creeks on the mountain side where I lived but I would find them at a distance from water sources under leaves and logs. Are you aware of any info on how far they will travel from water in the eft stage?

I love newts, we have tons of them here in Connecticut. I actually caught some one time and they had eggs in my tank. So cute. Then I found out it’s illegal to keep them here. 😥 it’s funny seeing you in a T-shirt when we’re snowed in and the temps are in single digits here.
@TheWildReportOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Oh cool! Yeah I missed out on filming egg masses/babies but maybe in the future I'll have a chance to. Are they state listed in CT? Also oof, I wouldn't mind a white Christmas but single digit temps would probably kill me
@mariemaroney78914 жыл бұрын
@@TheWildReportOfficial Enjoyed your video as always. As far as I know they are not listed here, so I have no idea why it’s illegal to keep them. Strange. There are so many of them everywhere. If anything the Spring and Slimy salamanders are the ones I have a hard time finding. I’ve even found Blue Spotted a few times. We’ll most likely have a White Christmas, it just started snowing again today. ❄️❄️ I’m in Hibernation, 😃 Happy Holidays to you and your family, 😍
