I would love it to be Basho's ability. I could definetely believe that Chrollo is such a better poet than Basho, and that would allow him to totally bypass Basho's condition and create insanely lethal poems. Actually, given his tragic backstory, hig genius, his affinity with the arts, and his determination, i could totally imagine Chrollo writing the poetic equivalent of the sonata of darkness and sacrifying himself to erase all the people he wants from existence. This is the one I was thinking actually. He might even be able to use it to create new bookmarks and such considering just how powerful Basho's ability has the potential to be. The interesting thing is I don't know if we have ever seen it established that Chrollo gets the benefits to an ability that the pre-established conditions would grant. So unless he imposes those conditions on himself after stealing it he might only get a diminished version. Might also make one of the other unknown conditions for skill hunter be that he needs to learn about their conditions so he can replicate the ability properly.

As a Korean reader, that reads in Japanese as well, the way people try to read between the lines of the English translations is interesting because the translators probably have no clue as to what Togashi has in mind with the all his hyperbole and ambiguous word play. Besides Togashi has often left clues that lead to nowhere because he couldn't finish the stories. A lot of his foreshadowing turns out to be fake shadows or unrealized possibilities. We used to call him the the great fisherman cause it felt like he would bait us into all these narrative hooks to watch us flop around.

Theory: Chrollo hits up Kurapika for his Nen ability due to his inability to meet the requirements to steal it. Kurapika uses the 1 time use of homegirl's Contract Nen ability to barter for the remaining eyes and possible head of his people and/or use Chrollo and the Troupe to ensure Woble's survival. It would be interesting for Chrollo to NEED Kurapika's help. Chrollo would 100% trade his life for the rest of the Troupe. Kurapika would need the Succession Contest end to guarantee Woble's safety and Tseridnich's death (most likely) to retrieve the rest of his clan's remains. Would love to see something like this play out

Retcon is a strong choice of word. Priorities change. He didn’t know Shal died and Hisoka revived himself. He had no reason to expect it to happen. With that said, I also don’t think the ability he’s looking for had to exist prior his boarding the ship. Considering Hisoka knows about the nen beasts, it might simply just be a matter of time before Chrollo finds out. I think the predator ability would be the one he’d hunt down. Or silent majority, but it seems that ability might only activate if your identity is hidden. Or maybe only activates to target individuals whose true identity is hidden. It’s also possible that Chrollo is trying to devise a way to steal Hisoka’s power before killing him. Just to make sure if he ever does come back somehow that he won’t be able to use his ability ever again.

If he devised a plan to steal Hisoka’s power, I think he could pull it off. He might also be trying to force a state of Zetsu on Hisoka somehow. I don’t know, but I’m just so excited to see what happens. The tough thing about stealing someone else’s ability on the ship is that they might die before he can use it. With Morena’s faction, the troupe, and all the other things going on- it might be harder for him to keep the person alive long enough for him to use it.

I think that he'll go to Kurapika and ask for Judgment Chain to kill Hisoka and promise to let Kurapika kill him afterwards (maybe even adding a Judgment Chain for Chrollo to die after killing Hisoka). Since we got confirmation that Sarasa's killer was killed, Chrollo might be ready to die. It seems like he's just wanting release. Kurapika doesn't have much time left, so it would make sense too. A nice way to wrap up the Phantom Troupe v Kurapika plot thread. The Spider will survive but without its head

What's a school? What's a guard? Nen is such a fluid concept that perhaps Chrollo, a nen genius, could convince himself a job was "school" and the troupe was a "guard". They're quite similar in that a new member would learn a lot on a job (or call it 5 jobs) and that the way the troupe functions is definitely akin to a guard for Chrollo. My main concern would be can they be retroactively claimed and that I somewhat doubt. There's no reason for Chrollo to suspect it could so I doubt he'd make plans that include the ability unless it was to future proof the rest of the troupe (sadly though, those with the most utility are gone already).

Did you forget in The Hisoka vs Chrollo fight, when Chrollo used " Order Stamp " he said that the ability cant actually ve used on corpses because the original holder of the ability did not view human bodies as puppets, and Chrollo had to add an extra step of making Copies of dead people with Kortopis " Gallery fake " to make copies of the corpses, which seemed to fulfill " Order Stamps " puppet condition So yeah there's no wiggle room with, Skill Hunter, the original intentions of the user is a part of its restrictions

Due to the similarity between the abilities, I had the thought of an OP Chrollo stealing Benjamin Baton and it inadvertently fusing with Skill Hunter, when Chrollo just expected BB itself to become a page in his SH book. Mostly because I imagined his book would get the ✨️pretty stars✨️ on the cover instead of Chrollo getting them on his palms I pictured all the abilities the Prince had when BB was stolen becoming pages in his SH book and Chrollo gaining past and current dead troupe members abilities, but his bookmark cannot be used on the BB or dead troupe abilities and the book becomes a fatal weak point as the restrictions so theres a bit of Nen balance The book can no longer be dispelled, it cannot go more than x distance from his person without weakening him, deactivating any SH hatsu in use. He now has to protect his book and keep it on his person 24/7 or he's crippled to the basics of nen like ko, shu, en etc. And because he can't make the book disappear he's forced into a permanent state of ren, dying instantly if forced to enter zetsu.

You bringing up how unlikely it would be to be Melody's ability gave me an idea -- I would love it if it ended up somehow being, or being tied to, the devil's song that messed up Melody and killed her friend; not only something that very truly could 'delete' Hisoka from ever being able to retain existence as anything resembling a human much less reviving to full power ever again, and would bring even more of these various loose HxH threads involving all the long-term characters in the Black Whale 1 right now together, and potentially finishing even more long-standing storylines while Togashi's still able to.

Melody does know at least some of the sonata, because that's how she ended up looking the way she does. It wouldn't be at all complicated to manipulate her using Illumi to play that piece again, and then she and everyone else who hears it ends up pretty messed up. It's also reasonable to assume that the entire piece is owned by the Kakin empire (possibly even in the collection of horrors owned by Sir Ride Nick). The Troupe steals it, which they are very good at doing, and then manipulate Melody to play the entire thing, utterly killing anyone who hears it. Imagine if they broadcast it to the entire Black Whale like her first performance was? Anyone who doesn't know ahead of time to shut their ears is dead. My interpretation of stealing Kurapika's ability was that he'd have to list his own specific target that it could only be used on. The power of the ability is based off the conviction and grudge you hold against the individual/group specified. That's why Kurapika's teacher told him it was a stupid ability because it was overly restrictive. However, if Chrollo identified Hisoka as his "Phantom Troupe"/mortal enemy then it would be akin to a silver bullet against him, and satisfy the guaranteed win condition Chrollo seeks. It makes sense to me because we already know that Chrollo is aware of this ability, so Togashi wouldn't have to come up with an explanation for how Chrollo knows about it or desires it (not that it'd be a problem for him to do so imo).

​@@skyreapery2n164 i don't think so, the main thing about nen abilities is that what matters is not the objective reality but rather the user's own perception like when shulk blindfolded himself ahainst youpi or when shizuku vacuum cleaner was able to suck blood despite it being specifically stated that it can't suck living things, the thing is that despite blood being objectively composed of living cells since shizuku doesen't percieve them as "alive" the restriction doesen't apply, so if for example kurapika was 100% sure someone was part of the tropue, chain jail would still work on them even if it's not the case, so if crollo were to see isoka as an actual troupe member then the thing would work (also to be noted that chain jail alone is unusable since the whole "only works on troupe" thing is possibile cause judgment chain in self imposed on kurapika's heart preventing him to use the ability on non troupe members)

Right now, I think Benjamin's ability is the most intriguing pick. On top of the points you already raised, Chrollo is a "skill hunter" (he even delivers monologues on it) and it would make sense for this special hatsu he's seeking to be a skill accumulation ability. It would also be his way of making sure his comrades lived on even if they were killed, unlike Shalnark and Kortopi.

Last chapter we saw, that Chrollo and the rest of the troupe realised their primary objective, which was to kill the killmurderer of Sarasa. We were also informed about Chrollos objective to steal an ability required to kill Hisoka. AND the desire (at least from Bonolenov) to "finish this masquerade" - so the phantom troupe "project"? So maybe to "steal" the judgment chain ability, Chrollo could meet up with Kurapika, force him to use the judgment chain and, for the ability to kill Hisoka, offer his own life. so effectivvely "borrow" the judgment chain for a period of time on this condition.

As much as Bono seems to be in the most ammount of danger currently, as he Hisoka is probably on his trail in the VIP section, did anyone notice Shizuku is not with Chrollo? That means she is off on her own. Her fortune after Uvogin's death was basically that he would not be alone for long, that she will die and that her greatest fear should be solitude. When Chrollo was reading fortunes, the dates of the specific moons mentioned alluded to Uvo(had already died to Kurapika), Pakunoda(died to Kurapika's ability later in the arc), Shalnark(died to Hisoka after his revival) and Shizuku dying. If you ask me, she has probably the most death flags currently, more than Melody even.

The Seed Urn itself, potentially attached to the dignitary who administered the Seed Urn Ritual to the princes? (Unlikely to work for anyone bar *maybe* Morena?) The Nen ability of Sheila, the "missing #9 Troupe member"??? (Pakunoda was #9 ignore that bit xD Sheila though!) The embalming Nen ability of Renko from Misty Forest Valley - possibly working with King Nasubi to preserve the dead princes for their burial chamber?

My only issue with Benjamin baton, is, how does Chrollo SEE it in action, considering it doesn't really have an outward effect. Cats game is easy because of the cat being conjured and kneading the target into aura goop, but Benjamin baton doesn't do anything like that... I personally think Chrollo is aiming for King Nasubi... We don't know his ability, but we know he has one, and a GSB, and he DID win his iteration of the succession contest in the past, so it stands to reason his ability would be useful at the very least.

I think you are right 9:06, but in York New City Hisoka wasn’t an imposter, the phantom troupe was. Thats why this has al happen, Hisoka thought they are degenerates like him, but they really aren’t. I feel like narratively Kurapika is too strong a candidate for it not to be him. The reasons stated in the video plus in the latest chapter it’s mentioned that chrollo that space open so he could close it for good. This would make Hisoka technically still a member of the troupe even if his loyalty lies elsewhere. The information regarding the zodiacs is a good point but I think the stronger point is that Tsuridnich is aboard who owns the rest of the scarlet eyes, the troupe seemingly carried out the initial contract for him / definitely know he has the and that the chain user is in search of them. Mizastrom (cow guy) got the tip and kept it close to himself about the eyes for kurapikas sake but is it mentioned where he got this from it could very well be chrollo baiting kurapika into a location in which he can steal his ability for his own use. It’s also quite ironic that hisoka went to such lengths to remove judgment chain from chrollo only to eventually have it used against him in the end I could see chrollo using tsuridnitch info for a shaky alliance with kurapika in which he gets enough of the conditions to steal his ability or convincing him to a straight up trade as kurapika will have no more need of judgment chain if he has the rest of the eyes (becides revenge) Chrollo also may have a personal vendetta for the 4th prince as the evidence that he was involved or the hai-li family we’re involved (tattoo artist as main point and the death announced in latest chapter) lead to the belief he had a hand in the death of his friend from the troupe flashback

I really think everyone is overthinking this. All Hisoka did was basically CPR himself using gum. You don't need any special ability to overcome this. In a battle scenario, I think any killing method other than suffocation (or maybe giving a heart attack somehow) would already overcome this. I think the ability Bono is talking about is just Bungee Gum. Without it, Hisoka won't be able to CPR himself again, meaning he would stay dead no matter how you kill him. And we could make an argument that the eternal page of bungee gum in Chrollo's book would be the treasure, since it probably wouldn't vanish from the book with it being an post mortem nen ability and all now.

Chrollo made that "treasure" statement in chapter 357 just before finding out Hisoka revived and killed Shalnark and Kortopi. There's no way that was the target at that time. I love the theory that Chrollo may steal Bungee Gum because Hisoka can't go 3 minutes without describing it and meeting one of the Skill Hunter criteria. I just don't think it's part of his preparation to face Hisoka.

I just had a thought and I've seen everyone except him mentioned in the comments and theories, could it be Hanzo's ability? The body of the double being partially material and able to phase through things would counter bungee gum's stickiness, and using a bookmark would let him use a second ability alongside it, bypassing Hanzo's (implied)restriction(as he was still killing the old fashioned way while using it). Using it, he also will be able to confront Hisoka from a safe distance and not actually put himself in danger, which would be fitting considering he sent the others around the ship to locate Hisoka and is planning to somehow kill him on his own after they do, even if he presented it as first come first serve(which, Hisoka wins every other matchup against the members realistically, especially on their own, which everyone except Nobu's group currently are, and the three are still being bullshitted by the mafia and wandering the secret tunnels. Franklin and Feitan are the two realistically favorable matchups other than Chrollo, and I think its for that very good reason that the story requires them to be bumming around, getting mislead in Feitan's case and outright not participating in Franklin's). Hanzo is also currently desperate to protect Maryam at all costs after Momoze got killed while they weren't looking, reaching the very true conclusion that the two of them were basically just kids without any blame for the contest. Hisoka is there as an invite by a prince. If Hisoka is hostile to Maryam, or at least Hanzo believes it, he may be inclined to side with Chrollo against him and give up one of his abilities(we know he has more than just it). If Chrollo does end up on Kurapika's side in the succession contest, Hanzo and Bisky will certainly also be allies as they are also a faction representing a child prince and they wouldn't have as many hang ups with Chrollo as Hanzo is a ninja, ie killer for hire, who was mostly Gon's friend after their fight and his resolve, and Bisky is on a recommendation from Killua and didn't even know Kurapika prior to meeting him when they were applying for the guard positions, while Melody might be more hesitant having dealt with the troupe before and being on Kurapika's side firmly, literally hearing the rage in his heartbeat every time she is around him. Kurapika would almost certainly be in it just for Wobble in that scenario, and Hanzo might end up being the link in the whole thing. Chrollo would also likely be down to side with Oito and Wobble as she is from Meteor city and Chrollo is the self-assigned protector of its people and the one who enforces the rule that you can give them anything, even your trash, but can't take from them. The only barrier now is the one Maryam's dragon has imposed from the grief for his sister. Also, which prince would hire Hisoka? Realistically it could be any of them. He is a foreigner in Kakin and his less savory traits and his loyalty to no one besides himself and nothing besides the shchwing wouldnt be known. I doubt it would be someone who would have actually had connections to the mafias in other places, like Tserriednich, as they would know of his reputation. Could it be Tyson? Hisoka certainly looks the part and it would be hilarious if the only reason the murder pedo clown ended up on the ship and is now derailing the whole plot by simply existing was that the wannabe cult leader was horny.

Liam, I think Chain Jail makes the most sense. Under Kurapika's conditions, chain jail would work (once) against a non-spider, but would kill the user. It would even have a good chance of getting stronger due to post-mortem nen. This would explain why the other spiders are trying to get to Hisoka first. They know that Chrollo plans to die while setting Hisoka up to be permanently killed, either by whatever Chrollo's second ability is or by the other spiders.

I think there might be a potential for all of these to have an air of truth to them, Chrollo has the superior sense of whit about him so there is that need to ensure his meticulous plans never fail. The inclusion of these abilities into his plan could work very well together, potentially utilising Kurapika's hatred for the spiders, they could have him as a referee for their fight and use his judgement chains for setting rules and it is Chrollo's anticipation of the rule Hisoka would impose that has dictated his plan. Given Togashi has a typically mixed method of writing where the outcome is neither best or worst case scenario but a beautiful blend of both. You now have a potential for the phantom troupe's goals to align with one prince in particular which if that goes against Beyond's plan it would give a reason for Hisoka to end up picking a fight with Beyond as he wants first dibs at Chrollo in a prime state. However personally I could see a battle royale like event taking place where all of the spiders take it in turns to go after Hisoka, which is the best reason for Chrollo to acquire Benjamin baton. That way poetically as always Chrollo can deliver some grandios speech around how he is the 13 legged spider himself as the head and or body blah blah blah etc how he is greater than the sum of his parts.

One we know now Chrollo was on the ship for both treasure AND THEN Hisoka. But, since this video was before that chapter I can see why you would think this. However, I think it was a bit short sighted to just assume Togashi would red con this for really no reason. Dude is a master storyteller. Have faith and let that man cook. Plus, info like this can be misleading and confusing to an already convoluted story ark. You generally do a great job in this area, so I don't mean any shade at all. I think Rihan's Predator could be an interesting option. It was certainly already in existence, though a mark against it is that Chrollo may have no way of knowing about it. It combos with Chrollo's existing abilities really well, since it acts as a general purpose counter and Chrollo already figures out how abilities are put together for the purposes of his ability. Also, Hisoka's abilities are so simple Rihan himself could probably activate it after a few seconds of watching Hisoka. Chrollo could activate it the moment he lays eyes on Hisoka and verifies his identity. No more Bungee Gum, no more fight or revival. It also makes Hisoka constantly explaining his ability a liability rather than a gag, which I really like.

Emperor time is what gives him access to 100% efficiency in every nen category, and the judgment chains utilize several nen categories to function. I don't see Camilla giving her ability though. She won't be able to use it, and it is integral to her winning the contest. She isn't dumb and would figure out how it works before the hand on the book comes. She already figured out how to program complex curses on other people using a third party(the have-nots) as the sacrifice. I also don't see Chrollo engaging her knowing how her ability works, even in his blind rage to kill Hisoka he would not be that reckless. She seems like someone he could possibly manipulate due to her childishness and impulsivity, but she is also an (unrecognised) nen genius and something of a puppet master herself, considering that she got away basically without any reprocussions from her little stunt with the cat and nobody actually knows her ability yet. That is another thing, would anyone actually know her ability? They know she knows nen, but as far as outsiders are concerned they may very well believe her nen is a curse-type, as that is what she presents to the world with her army all being curse carriers. Illumi is still just chilling a cell. He might have even lied for why he is there, he might be on a bro retrieval again, this time for Kalluto. Without him, if someone is sacrificed to find the cat, it would be a troupe member. But Chrollo already has the ability in mind and the cat wouldn't be it in that context. Benjamin baton is probably the one he is after if it were one of the two, as he is avenging the troupe members, so having them be back with him would be very symbolic for the confrontation with their killer, and the bookmarking one and open book for another are really limiting to him. Even if he doesn't get to use all of the abilities from the book, he still gets tons of stuff from the troupe members and the elders who were loyal to him. I think another solid candidate for which ability he is hunting is something we haven't seen, as Chrollo is rushing to the top levels to kill Hisoka, not necessarily for the ability, as he is still roaming his level, so it's probably there. The way I see it, he was going around there with Bono and Shizuku to get the ability and get to Hisoka after, so having Bono go open a way to Hisoka is a bonus. Bono, by explaining his abilty which he was yet to show Chrollo, was essentially offering it up for the book, but Chrollo sent him to do the fake Hisoka, rather than taking te ability and going himself to the upper floors, so he has a reason to have not moved out from his current level. That is another thing. Chrollo is still probably on the same level he has been since this whole thing started. In the time he has been roaming that level, Nobunaga and his group teleported all over the place, traversed the mafia tunnels, held several meetings, got their stuff from cargo, went to Heil-ly lair, went back, made alliences, placed trackers, killed the pocket dimension guy who was appearing all over the place, found secret doors in the apartmenr toilets and met both of the second in commands of the mafias. There has to be a reason he hasn't moved. As far as the ability actually being Kurapika's, Chrollo could theoretically create an ability that imposes rules as long as he isn't limited to the book(as natural, always specialist specialists seem to "awaken" abilities rather than create them). Having to use everything through the book might actually be a condition on him that outright stops him from creating other abilities, despite himself being in the perfect position to do so as a specialist. Judgement chain would be beneficial, but I think Chrollo might also just be aiming for the chains as a whole. He won't be able to use chain jail, but having a healing chain, a condition imposing chain and (possibly if he somehow knows about it) the dolphin chain is very useful in terms of utility in a fight with Hisoka, as it cuts several changes of abilities and flipping through the book. The dolphin chain, if he knows about it, would also be very beneficial against Hisoka, as it bypasses the conditions of the book for a forced extraction of the ability, with the drawback of only one use before it goes back to the user, which, let's be honest, isn't a problem in a theoretical fight with Hisoka as he wouldn't be using it to get himself bungee gum, but to disable Hisoka from using it. He also could use chain jail, theoretically. We aren't exactly sure how the conditions and consequences would apply, but the dagger for only using it on spiders is in Kurapika's heart and is set to pierce him if he breaks it, but there is the possibility to break it and use it once on someone, but that would be immediately fatal to Kurapika and ineffective as a result. If Chrollo takes it and breaks it, he could potentially get to use it with Kurapika dying still. I still think it is something we are yet to see. The things we've seen so far just don't make sense for the setup. Hell, even (the channel favorite)Melody's ability would make more sense in this context, but it might be unusable by people who haven't listened to the devil's music. If I had to take a guess we might see a new character introduced soon, the whale still has a ways to go and new characters are popping up almost every chapter, wouldn't be surprising if we see someone new, whose ability Chrollo is after, and watch him take it through (regular emotional, non-nen)manipulation, like what happened when he took Neon on a date. Also, is Neon actually dead? A repeat scenario might be an opportunity for showing what happened to her, as her ability did dissapear from the book. Kurapika did take over as the boss, but he wouldn't have killed even if he was mad after seeing her play with the eyes, just isn't his character. Judgement chain might be the answer. Chrollo's book takes abilities and the user isn't able to use them anymore. However, the ability is still reliant on the user, as dying removes them from the book, with the only abilities that have stayed being ones ingrained with the dying wish of them to remain there by his devoted followers and running on post-mortem nen. Kurapika can enforce a permanent ban on nen use right at the heart of the nen user with his judgement chain. If the ability working on Chrollo's end relies on it theoretically still being able to work on the original user's end, Kurapika restricting Neon to not be able to use nen might have removed the ability from the book. If we approach it from the conditions can affect the book angle, I think we can all agree that something like Gon's current condition would remove his ability from the book. But, from Ging's words, that is a condition imposed by his contract with his nen which stops him from using and perceiving it, but the nen is still there in some form. It isn't necessarily zetsu, like chain jail does, but just stops nen through a contract, which judgement could do as it imposes a one-sided contract. Or Hisoka killed her. Who knows.

Chrollo stealing ben ability to have the spiders in a way be apart of him would be such so a cool thing thematically and in practice. He can be the last one starting after hisoka kills the rest if them and it would be like they are all fighting hisoka or even kurapika if he finds chrollo. THAT would be so good

I don't think the target ability will end up actually mattering.. I think Chrollo will, by happenstance or intent on some part, come into conflict with Tsereidnich at at his all-time high, and get thoroughly got, leading to Tsereidnich having the opportunity to join the Troupe on a whim and making it so Kurapika will really be able to mess him up later on..

That would make a lot of sense actually, especially if Kurapika uses chain jail, which he can only use on spiders, on him to put him in zetsu rather than judgement chain to stop him from using nen, which would trigger the parallel outcomes ability and lead him to where it missed, or create a situation where there is no universe where it missed due to the power it gets from the extreme conditions + emperor time boost + emperor time contractual lifespan loss + specialist nen scores, so it always hits and always triggers the ability, sending him into a loop.
