@@armann8702 Yeah but it's so slow that your opponent can literally just walk away from it. Ex teleport did have a glitch though, if you did a delayed 1 at the last possible second Kung Lao would actually keep the armor for a few seconds after he lands.

@@just_2swift It was definitely a very overrated move in MK9, mostly because the game's horrible net code made it a lot more difficult to counter online. Offline, unless you played a character with a big hit box, all you had to do is watch for it then duck and punish with a d1 or an uppercut. The main use for it was blowing up zonning and making people hesitate to anti-air your jump ins.

I will never forget fighting De_Nocte on Xbox 360. He was the best Kung Lao player I have ever fought. So good that I’ve only beaten him once out of 20+ games. And I’ve played him from time to time randomly on ranked 1v1. If you’re reading this man, I want my rematch with you soon 😉

He didn't have a mid hitting starter and almost everything he did was unsafe. Basically, they balanced him by making him a high risk character. You actually had to mix things up A LOT playing Kung Lao, because once someone who knew the matchup started figuring your paterns out they'd just punish everything you do.

Hey Reo... I must say I'm loving the MK9 throwbacks, even learning things I didn't know (like the random +fs).... However, I must ask... is there any specific purpose to this series?, MK11 is currently struggling due to the perception of its players (yes, NRS players are the most spoiled, and tend to be scrubs that cry instead of adapting), and the game is about to get support that will add Spawn and hopefully mechanic changes but the game is perceived as stale at the moment also (even if it is very technical with a high Barrier on FBlock, and emphasis on resource management instead of combo execution)... I'm just asking because making content that promotes MK11 would do good for the scene as well. Again, I really like mk9 and love this video series, but I think supporting mk11 is more valuable for the scene right now... Thanks for the great content

When his spin was blocked, Lao used to get pushed back a bit, making it really safe to use and hard to punish. He could also spin twice back to back. That coupled with his insane mobility let Lao players go all in with little fear of retaliation. The patch removed that push back making him easier to punish on block. It also got a brief cool down so it couldn't get spammed back to back.

Kenshi had some of the best zoning in the game, most of his enhanced moves had armor and were safe on block but the only things that stopped kenshi from being top 2 on the tier list were heavy rushdown characters like johnny cage or kabal who could break armor easily and stay in his face the whole game

And Cyrax had unblockable bombs that lead to 80% reset combos that were 100% guaranteed unless you had 2 bars to break out of it, had a teleport, enhanced net drained a ton of meter and had a command grab that guaranteed a combo if they had a bomb underneath them. But the reason Cyrax isn't top 2 or even 1 on the tier lists is he would get smothered by extreme rushdown characters due to his lack of armor or could get outzoned by characters like kenshi or kabal with his iafb (instant air fireballs)

Divekick is not broken, it's super unsafe on block and every character on the cast could punish it with a full combo, kung lao could also be uppercuted or d1ed to a full combo after a teleport if the other character was quick enough

The main use for the dive kick wasn't to actually try and hit somebody with it. A whiffed Instant Air Dive Kick allowed Kung Lao to travel half screen very quickly with zero recovery once he lands. He could also use it as a psuedo hit and run tactic; get in and do a block string for chip damage and then Jump kick~Dive Kick to safety. Rinse and repeat.
