I started with watching Bob Vila and This Old House, when that was the only option on tv. Since You Tube, there’s been so many other options. Can’t believe I’m just now coming across your channel. Amazing amount of attention to detail here. I just finished all 6 videos, and that window looks like it will outlast the building you’re going to,put it in. Beautiful craftsmanship. ❤️❤️

I’m probably never going to hand make my own Victorian arched window but I find the videos compelling watching, essentially watching master craftsmanship, I’m having to rewatch as subs were off initially, this must be how toddlers feel when they watch parents to learn how to adult

Have you ever pegged of pinned window joints without glue?
@NewYorkshireWorkshop
@NewYorkshireWorkshop 5 жыл бұрын
ive always glued them as it helps to stop moisture ingress into the joint but not so necesary for strength if the joints are cut accurately and wedged and pegged.
@richardmckrell4899
@richardmckrell4899 5 жыл бұрын
I think you were doing linseed oil paint on a door. If you condition with raw linseed oil, use linseed oil putty and paint with linseed oil paint, you don't need to worry about moisture at joints and the paint, with a little maintenance, will last forever. It's actually preferable not to glue joints with linseed oil products and you can use less expensive wood material. Gorilla glue is a good choice if using petroleum based paint.

Dude, you've got some serious skills! Can I ak, why do you use CA glue in some instances and then polyurethane glue in others? ANd, why don't you use standard wood glue?

thanks andreas, i did take a photo just after fitting but not sure how to post it here. still to this day i didnt re plaster around it so it still looks rough from inside but it keeps the rain out! i painted with linseed oil, i have a couple of videos covering that.

Fantastic craftsmanship. And so much versatility too and i love your videos - no fuss presentation but loads of detail. I was wondering how you decide when to use CA vs conventional wood glues. Is it simply a case of big joints and laminations are too expensive to slather in CA?

Hi, lovely job, can I ask why the bottom rail isn’t tenoned into the stiles as it would be in casement sashes, just wondering as I’ve never seen it done this way, cheers Crawford
@NewYorkshireWorkshop
@NewYorkshireWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
in a sash; the bottom rails are tennoned into the stiles so that there is something holding the weight of the glass, if the stile were tenoned into the bottom rail then the weight of the glass can push the bottom rail down and off the tenons (years down the line if they loosen). in a frame; the stiles are tenoned in order to limit the amound of end grain at the very bottom where water can settle. the bottom rail (of the frame) is supported by the stone cill so it cant be pushed down.

@@NewYorkshireWorkshop Good for you! Otherwise you'd need Popeye's forearms to squeeze the stuff out and then have to wait half hour for it to drip on to what ever you're gluing!! I know :-( lol More vids please! Love watching 'em.

I imagine it has more to do with the humidity since Gorilla Glue activates with moisture.

its a really great attempt but unfortunately back in my day you would fail the C&G advanced craft in carpentry with this as your examination piece the arch would have hammer head joints and all the glazing bars would have to be mortised to get full marks. Still the quality here surpasses most of the cr*p that passes for construction in the era of Kevin McCloud etc.

hi mate, i did the advanced craft city and guilds cabinetmaking , in liverpool , he would have passed hand made with distinction no problem , i have never seen so much filler used when i was in collage , many sins were committed , saying that i probably would have morticed the shaped glazing bar )
