Excellent work done. It brought back many memories, I made some wooden windows back in the 1060s, using traditional tools, setting them up for normal single glazing, for a private house, after they had been built in I was informed that they were going to have this new double-glazed panels, I had to go round and deepen all the rebates by hand, (Portable routers not having been available.) Still making the odd items at 81, Good luck for the future.

Why didn’t you make a 26mm rebate in the first place for the glass? Also how much did you charge for this sash?
@christobar
@christobar 5 жыл бұрын
One thing to note, you should paint the rebates (rabets) for the glazing putty, because the putty will last longer without having it's own linseed oil being leeched out by the wood :) Obviously if they use a different product other than traditional putty, it may different in treatment.

Raw linseed oil as first coat? I've heard it never really dries, probably good for the glazing bars & putty though. how long before painting with final coat(s). Would have loved to see it installed with glass. Plain or stained glass?

Part 8??? The making is wonderful, the skill is incredible, the final look at the work is shockingly bad. Why go to all the trouble of putting together amazing episodes then leaving out the end. It’s like a a great book without a final chapter. I really don’t know why you can’t be bothered at the end, it’s beyond me. John from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Absolute delight to watch, true craftsmanship. Out of interest, what are the properties of the pitch pine as opposed to a regular pine? Is it harder and more resistant to rot?
@NewYorkshireWorkshop
@NewYorkshireWorkshop 5 жыл бұрын
it is really resistant to rot due to the amount of resin in it, this paticular wood was the foundations of a mill in manchester so had been burried in the ground for 170 years!

you woulnt be able to do that with a window which is already made for a straight wall. you would need to make the window from scratch to suit.
