'1971' may have been when the door was re hung! That looks like a late 1940's or 1950's sunray door to me and you have made a wonderful job of saving it. 🎉 Just stunning.

After 15 years of living in our house,we realised that the pair of panelled doors leading to our dining room were actually a pair of these, ply covered with beading glued on. Unfortunately they were without glass or beading but we were chuffed anyway and sent them to a furniture maker we know who restored them and replaced the glass with a plain glass etched with a scene across the panes, they were in exceptionally good condition underneath the panelling and had only a couple of coats of paint before being covered. The restorer believed them to be from early1950's and noted that the timber was of really good quality.

I'm genuinely surprised that you didn't have an appropriate router bit in your possession to cut the missing bit of beading so you were forced to violate a defenceless old saw for raw materials in order to manufacture a profile cutter with your own hands. I dread to think of the number of those sun ray doors I have thrown in skips over the years. I have not seen one for quite a while though. I wish I had had the space to keep some of the doors I have changed for customers over my career, there were some really great designs and quality back in the day. You did your usual thorough job and the door looks great, just tell your girls to be careful as it isn't safety glass. A tip on the paint cans is that if you make sure the lid is on tight and store them upside down then it can't form a skin, as the air can't get to it. Only works for solvent based paints obviously. Thanks for sharing.

@@rebeccawoods2481 Sniper? Also, I know what irony is, but this example looked so odd. Usually when one starts with something like "I hate watching this guy" you follow up with something along the lines of "He's so good, It makes me realize how bad I am at it". But that whole part was just omitted, instead it was just "I hate watching this guy" and a bunch of praise. It just looked like you mistyped, or got auto corrected.

Incredible video as always… love watching your handiwork as well as soothing presentation style. I’m in no position to comment on your work… BUT… with your lovely kids around, please be careful about these old 70s glass doors - if one of the kids fall in to them, or slam too hard, they can break in to horrible shards easily. Happened to me in our old house growing up when I was 4 - luckily escaped any real injury by how the glass fell, but was luck rather than safety.
