Very informative video, thanks for making it. After watching, I looked at my app and the display on the app shows that my panels are producing enough energy to cover the needs of the house and there is even a little left over. However, the app shows that my produced energy is being distributed to the house and to the battery while simultaneously taking energy from the grid. Is there a way to change the settings on the app so that rather taking from the grid, the power would go only to the house and then charge the battery when there is excess being produced? Ie, I would like the needs of the house addressed before anything is distributed to charging the battery. I would prefer to not draw from the grid if at all possible. Thanks

Thank you- this was super helpful. I was very confused by the "self-powered" thing and why I would want to use it.

I don’t understand why you would keep batteries at 100%. Why not use them at night to prevent using power from the grid when the sun has set?

It’s a good question and if I didn’t have full net metering in NY I would do that. There is no benefit in my case to use the batteries at night because all the extra power the system produces we send back to the grid and we use those credits at night when the solar is not producing.

Great video! I only have Tesla inverters with net metering at my location. No Powerwall batteries. On my Tesla app it only shows production going to the grid. Is there something I’m missing to do in the app? Where do I find the kWh that I pull from the grid?

Tesla would have to install consumption monitoring for you to receive that data 📈 some systems did not come with if you were installed a couple years ago. I would reach out to Tesla directly.

I am having really odd readings in my energy tab. The curve has odd drop offs in power vs being smooth up to a peak and down as the sun goes down. Production will drop from peak to 1 or 2 KW's of production at random times on perfectly sunny days? Any ideas?

Hi In P.R. energy is a flat rate (same price) where should i put slide bar 100% self power ? I want to pay minimum to electric company & i want to use air cond. all night.

Just saw your post. It was very informative. My powerwall app shows a yellow or amber line feeding the house or Tesla battery from the solar panels. It used to be green. Also sometimes the grid shows a white line when feeding the house otherwise it is also “yellow” I can only see a green line feeding the house from the Tesla battery. What do the different colors mean? I asked the company that did the installation and they said it was normal. I’m not that sure, since it use to be green. Any ideas

Arthur I just realized this as well. This looks like it happened in a software update they must have pushed out. I am seeing yellow coming from solar and green line must mean when the battery is feeding the home. Thank you for the comment

A recent update started to show the coloured flows of energy. Throughout the app, anything in yellow is something to do with solar and anything in green is something to do with the battery.

Very informative. Question - 100% Backup Reseve vs Battery Health. Will keeping your batteries at 100% and not cycling them for long periods of time affect the battery health? Will it affect it with LFP chemistry (powerwall 3)?

If you have a Grid-Tied system how does the system app get data if the router and modem are down? Does Tesla offer a Cellular option?
@leehartshorn1479 Жыл бұрын
I guess you'd have to make sure those important bits like your modem etc are covered by the powerwall if their is an outage

Question: Can a home owner switch to off grid in order to go on vacation and save money with tesla power wall?
@salokin1 Жыл бұрын
In those first four graphs, it is more informative to click on the small icon near the top to show the same graphs but in multi-colours. For example, the blue house graph will then show in yellow, green and grey showing what bits of energy came from the solar, powerwall or grid. Maybe not much green in your case as the battery is often "dormant" in your situation! Looking from the UK, I am amazed at the frequency of outages in many US homes.

any idea how to add a second inverter to my app? I have a powerwall+ and 1 inverter that the Tesla app recognizes but that is only 1/2 of the power that is actually being generated. Customer service is pretty worthless.

I have a utility that requires transformer upgrade because 2 times Powewall 3 capacity is more than 80% of the 25 kVA transformer . Is there a way to lock the system to never export battery power, ie solar only? Currently, it’s a user advanced setting, but the utility will probably not trust a user. Dumping battery power to the grid would not be my choice, but I can see the argument that having it an option, there is a potential for transformer overload.

So SunPower provides use of the Tesla Energy App AND the SunPower Monitoring App?
@buysolarlocal Жыл бұрын
Chris you would only get access to the Tesla app if you have Tesla Powerwalls installed with your SunPower panels. You would not get the Enphase if you bought the Equinox SunPower system you would get the MySunPower app from SunPower. Hope this helps

My Tesla app shows nothing for panels, just for cars. Before the Tesla takeover, my panels were Solar City, the company that installed them. I'm located on Cape Cod, Ma.
