We have more people dying in SA everyday from gang conflict than what's dying each day in DRC, but our govt. gets upset when 9 soldiers deployed in a country that is thousands of Kms away are killed in action?? They probably died because they would have been underequipped, underfunded & lacking support. South Africa no authority in Africa. South Africa is a laughing stock in Africa, the way it has been plundered in the last 30 years. Not even our currency is worth good money anymore. I'm sorry for the families of the soldiers, but dying on foreign soil while your own country is a mess is not the way to go.

Ndugu the problem is your government. Kinshasa signed an agreement with the rebels in 2012 which has never been implemented. Tsisekedi is not serious to have it operationalised. He continues to call banyamulenge rwandese and foreigners. They are Congolese and in their homeland. Their minerals are being looted yet there are no schools, roads, hospitals, jobs, railways , etc. Life in the east of your country is miserable. They are marginalised. Poorly treated. Your army is indisciplined. Kenya intervened last year but your president chased them away. If today Tsisekedi fulfils the covenant the government signed with the east, peace will prevail tomorrow

This is murder.

As much as i respect and indeed admire the former general for his service, i would like to point out; 1. The SANDF is a shadow of what it was 20 years ago- no air support from Rooivalk helicopters etc...a looter continua 2. What exactly is the South African national interest in this? So far, ive heard nothing but supposed pan-Africanist ideology and pride as the arguments for keeping our troops there. That's a lot to ask young South African men to die for, to make orphans and widows for. If the DRC under the current regime is crucial to our economy (doubtful) then maybe. Personally, id rather take any defense spending and capability we may have left and use it to secure our borders.
