Fire Golden Arrows bus driver - Mbasana

Lifalethu Mbasana, 11, was forced to walk home from a Simon’s Town School, Cape Town, to Khayelitsha, after a Golden Arrow driver kicked him off the bus after he lost his ticket. His mother, Siba Mbasana, says it's not enough that the company has only suspended the driver. "I want to see that man far away from our kids. Our kids are not safe around him," she says.

This is more about morality not legality. There is no legal obligation on the bus company to take passengers who do not have tickets. It is the responsibility of the passenger to ensure that their tickets are safe. As sad as it is, there won't be a law suit.

The bus driver can take the bus company to department of labor for unfair dismissal if they decide to let him go because according to the law the driver did nothing wrong. You can't get inside a bus without a valid ticket and this are some of the reasons parents prefer to use scholar transport and another thing the child could have went to the bus office's to report the lost ticket or find a Marshall at the bus station

Its rubbish that the driver should be fired. This woman can't come here and destroy another family for her selfish ends. The management of Golden arrow is sacrificing the driver for their own policies that don't allow free riders. The driver should sue the company for a million rands. He never made the rule that everyone must pay, they did. It is sad that the boy suffered so much but he should have rather walked to the police station. The bus driver has no rule in the company that says take home whoever says they lost their ticket. The driver is not guilty but it would have been nicer if he paid for the boy himself if he had any cash.

Someone offered to pay for the ride and the driver refused. Secondly, instead of trying to be right the driver could have used a bit of EQ to handle the situation because now every policy will be scrutinized and he will never drive another GABS bus again.

But guys the very driver would have been in trouble with the inspectors had they found Lifalethu without the ticket,l was in the same situation in 2002 when my uncle (mkinana) got me with the groceries we purchased in siteB,just as he was about to drop me in Landsdowne,small business,the inspectors got in, started demanding tickets,l could not give them,he was in trouble but they allowed me off,yabona?

Some arguing in favour of the driver here have clearly not read to understand this article. It is said that GABS has a policy in place that scholars (children in uniform) must be assisted in cases like this one. So, NO, the inspector would not have an issue with the driver for allowing this boy to board the bus without a ticket. That's a myopic argument! In fact, no argument justifies this horrendous and inhumane act of this driver. Lastly, most drivers service the same route, making them familiar with their passengers. If this wasn't his first time serving this route, he surely knows this young boy. Why not exercise discretion if he perhaps forgot the policy? Worst of all, the siblings of this young boy were already on the bus; they had gone in before him. Now imagine the panic when he realized he didn't have his ticket. Ubuntu, people, UBUNTU! Especially in this crime-ridden, God-forsaken Cape Town where almost every missing person turns out dead! Lives over JOBS!

The result of DA's WCED not allowing children to get into schools close to them. Ppl residing in Simons Town have to travel to Khayalitcha to go school bcaus WCED doesnt allow anybody from their into their own schools.

This has nothing to do with DA policy. The family lives in Khayelitsha and the father works in Silvermine. The family chose the school in Simonstown because it is close to where the father works, and the kids normally travel with him. Apparently the father was on a course at the time, so the kids had to travel by bus.
