There are sooo many things around this ... municipalities require you to pay a business Levi which many stand alone spaza shops cannot afford, they have to pay tax , which these foreign owned shops don't do , they buy bulk(fake products) which a individual can not compete with you try to make a profit but with all the red tape and Levi's you struggling to just keep the spaza shop open. So no, it is not South Africans being lazy. it's you put in more then you get out. And lots of times you have to give credit to your neighbors... you know they are struggling, and you try to help but and up not getting paid back at all, so now you in debt more then when you started out.
