McKenzie calls for the release of the names of those funded by his department

Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie has vowed to address the issue of what he calls a few individuals benefiting financially from the department.
In a recent social media post, the minister said he has asked for a list of all artists, creatives and sports people who have been receiving money from the department, including amounts and motivations.
Performing artist and EFF MP Eugene Mthethwa says this is what has been lacking in the department.

Big mess...Refs have no medical aid, no contracts, just paid per game...puppets on SAFAs strings. When they have no matches, no pay. Off season, no pay. Top sport in SA but referees are treated like amateurs in professional league.. My husband was told to do it ...'.for the love of the game ' but safa officials all get their salaries when the Referees must watch how they go. If the ref is not agreeable, he gets no matches hence no pay. How can we up the standard if we treat the refs with such disregard. Professional game gets best treatment but referees treated like amateurs. Going on for decades. Rugby and cricket referees are professional and get paid professionally, why not soccer refs?

Aspects of services provided by largely by non-black businesses will not be touched. You’ll find artists are the smallest chunk of the departments expenses. The key is security, catering, legal services, landlords- that’s the bulk of the money in most departments. Artists will be far less than even 5% of the departments total expenses.
