There are places in Natal where blacks do the same, without anyone complaining. Only difference is that in the Natal cases, the South African government pays them, and the local black kings, millions each year.

I appreciate that Gayton visited Orania and that he is willing to share his experience and observations. We've just returned from Japan and I can attest that the entire country runs that way - a country of 124 Million people. Also, newcomers to Japan do not enforce their culture onto Japanese culture but respect the Japanese culture and adjust to it. Orania's insistence on people accepting and respecting their culture is not so unreasonable.

Personally I think we should not compare Japan to South Africa. Firstly 99.2% of people in Japan have Japanese as their first language. Secondly Today, there are 3 major distinct languages spoken by people in Japan. Those are the Standard Japanese, also called Nihongo by the Japanese people themselves, the Ryukyuan languages, and the Okinawan languages. South Africa has a beautiful and diverse cultural community with different religions and beliefs. In conclusion a homogeneous system can never apply in South Africa simply because we cannot choice one particular race to dominate and side line others.
@etiennejoubert7461
@etiennejoubert7461 Жыл бұрын
@@zamokuhlemahlaba778 Hi and thanks for responding to my comment. I agree that Japan being homogenous versus South Africa being heterogenous makes for challenging cultural alignment. I was referring to Orania. The origin of Orania is founded on cultural homogeneity. The founders stated that they wanted to protect their cultural homogeneity. This, more than ethnicity was the driving force behind Orania. This is why I stated that they require people that join their community to respect the culture. This is similar to Japan. Foreigners that live and work in Japan accept and respect the culture. In fact, the Japanese will not tolerate anything else. This homogeneity supports order and prosperity. This is the similarity that I referred to. There are many more reasons why Japan is such a success story in recovering from the second world war and especially the destructive after effects of the two atom bombs.

Went there with my family over the weekend and the kids were playing with my 2 year old. The older girl (around 7/8) was like a mother, taking care of my toddler while my wife and I were eating at the restaurant. They spoke to us in English and were all really friendly. We left our keys, wallets and Ray Bans on the table while walking around and IT WAS STILL THERE WHEN WE RETURNED!!!! And like Gayton says, they all greet! Even while driving past you in their car, they will greet you. People standing in the street will stop what they are doing and lift up their hand. And yes, it is one big construction site! They are developing so fast that they are building houses where there aren't paved roads yet. This 'Cape Coloured' was pleasantly surprised.
@olsaffa7679
@olsaffa7679 Жыл бұрын
Hi Shawn. I have not had the pleasure to visit there. The description of everybody greeting lands well with me. I grew up in a typical Western Cape small town and remember, when I was still a kid, how everybody would greet everybody else. You would be expected to lift your finger off the steering wheel as a greeting so often that it wasn't funny. People would give a slight knod of the head or, like many men wearing hats, they would touch the rim of their hats or grab the top and slightly lift it off. Coloured and white people (there weren't black people living in the town but one man named Mike - late 70's early 80's).

This interview is proof positive, that mainstream media is not in the business of informing people, but rather engineering perception. Gayton is highlighting the fact that they are a well organised society, the interviewer ignores that and insists on them being racist and the man keeps saying, we can learn so much from them, no the interviewer goes on for twelve minutes of a sixteen minute interview on racism, have we been conditioned to be so negative that we can't even recognize a system that works and can be of benefit to us, it's disheartening indeed.

Orania privately bought, and built on 8,000-hectares. Safe, clean, 0% unemployment, housing schemes, a trust bank, continually developing, and plans are in place to be completely off-grid (unaffected by continuous load-shedding), pretty self-sufficient as a town, producing most of what it needs, from pecan nuts to vegetables. It also rears livestock and takes care of its electricity infrastructure. It pays taxes to South Africa. Not a relic of the past but in many ways futuristic (with hope of an even better future). In contrast, The Ingonyama Trust is the nominal owner of some 2.8 million hectares of land in KwaZulu-Natal. In 1997, an amendment to the Trust Act established the Ingonyama Trust Board. With his coronation, the sole trustee of the Trust is now Ingonyama yamaZulu, King Misuzulu. The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government has hiked the budget for the royal household unit, which takes care of the needs of Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini. The current financial year’s budget allocation for the unit stands at R79 million, representing a R12 million increase from the previous year’s R67 million allocation. The land that falls under the Trust includes the Makhasaneni community located near the town of Melmoth. The experience of the Makhasaneni community is an example of the failure of the Ingonyama Trust Board to protect the land rights of communities. It has authorised commercial mining activities without proper community consultation. This has deprived the community of its informal rights to land. A recent judgment of the Pietermaritzburg High Court was scathing. It reprimanded the Trust for undermining the rights of rural communities by converting their land rights into “lease agreements” and then charging exorbitant fees for occupation of land that the communities already had the right to be on. In KwaZuu-Natal, approximately 59.3% of young people aged between 15 and 34 years are unemployed." The provincial economy was estimated to have peaked at 4.2% in 2021 while the real output was projected to retreat somewhat to 1.7% in 2022 and 2023. I am not apportioning all the blame to the Ingonyama trustees, this is just a useful comparison. The ANC are the ones who have been ruling after all. From the comparison, it is clear to see that the one gives, and the other one takes. The one cares not for oneself, but for its community. The other one thinks of self enrichment, primarily. The one thinks long term. The other thinks only of the present. And so on and so on. It seems to me that the Afrikaner way is not the problem, but part of the solution. At the end of the day, you get what you vote for. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” (Attributed to) Albert Einstein. Put differently, Insanity is voting for the same party over and over again and expecting different results. I don't know what the political solution is, and I am not punting the DA, VF+ etc, I just know that the ANC is not the answer, and as long as we keep voting for them, we will get the same results and stay on the same downward trajectory. A forecast of worsening unemployment, crime, filth, lawlessness, lower standards of education, weakening of the rand, poverty, homelessness, grid collapse, contaminated drinking water, unprotected beaches, less tourism, less international investment, food insecurity, worse public health care facilities. The list goes on. In fact, one would be hard pressed to think of two or more positive outcomes from the ANC staying in power. Is this the future we want for ourselves, our children, grand-children and theirs? Have we know pride in who we are as humans, irrespective of race, religion, etc?

No matter how much u would like to justify, these are black lands and no white mans businesses how blacks manage their own home. This notion that a white government is the solution is childish, unrealistic and selfish since these are black lands for black people. Either whites learn to share, teach and assist black governments throught their expertise or they f off to europe where they belong but a government of white descendants of oppressors is not the solution for the people or the land no matter how good it may appear. White people have proven over and over again that they are only in it for themselves, the same way they improved only their own dwellings and claimed to have brought progress to the whole lands when they only deveolped their own dwellings and cities built on other people's land. The reporter keeps asking what is Orania doing different and why it's working? The answer is blatantly obvious, what is different Orania vs South Africa? Orania is nationalistic. One people with a singular vision and therfore getting things done. If you have diverse people in a workforce or society they are not working to a single goal, they are always looking after their own demographics interests and not the overarching interests of the greater group which lead to less success or complete failure. PS: Orania has even been terraforming, planting thousands of trees to increase the arability of the area.

It's true. I've seen a lot of black community projects which failed because of the members not agreeing on decisions taken by some. That is why coalitions won't work in South Afrika.

As a person not from South Africa I have obviously never been to Orania. I have only heard and read about it. However, what I do find fascinating is the fact that it is always mentioned that they are a whites-only town. Now, as far as I know they are also the only whites-only town in South Africa. Media seems to find this interesting and apparently go out of their way to visit Orania and then always comment on this issue of being a white-only town. Now I'm not an expert on South Africa, but I am willing to bet that there are several towns who only has black or brown residents. Most probably limited to one cultural group i.e. Zulu, Xhosa, etc. So, why are people so obsessed with Afrikaners living together as a tribe? What is so unusual about it? Do they make documentaries on Zulu towns and then stand amazed at the fact that the town is only full of Zulus? I think they have isolated themselves from other people to live their own culture. They are not forcing it down on others. Is it not their right? Let them be.

Why do the media continue vilifying Orania? It is, within this desert, this failure called South Africa, a place that works - in many senses of the word. I would not be able to live there; I would not fit in. But I do envy their diligence, the fact that the houses don't have high fences around them, that people can amble through the town when the sun sets without having to fear for their lives. Surely freedom of association should extend to these people? If South Africa truly extended language rights, property rights, freedom in all its expressions, to everybody, Orania would not exist, and if it did, it would most probably be a backward, inbreeding place. It is not. Mr McKenzie has done the right thing and has earned my respect - and that of many of my colleagues. My perfect South African place would be a copy of Orania but filled with the diversity of our races and cultures and languages, without the crime and corruption and excuse for political indolence.

Oranje is on private land, so if you don't meet the criteria to live there, look somewhere else. I don't want to live where blacks live , so I live with my own class of people. Why is it such a thorn in the black peoples side, that they are not welcome there? Look at the resulting conditions in the majority of black areas and it is quite evident that the people running Oranje, don't want it turning into a slum. There should be more places like Oranje in South Africa, where like minded people, of whatever race, can live as they wish, and control their future. The Durban beachfront has dozens of blocks of flats, almost all of them being bought up by Muslim Indians, where others don't stand a chance of purchasing, renting a place to live. I don't hear anybody complaining of that. This practice is spreading through Morningside, Riverside and Umgeni Heights.

No one complains about Townships that are all mostly populated by Black South Africans. The problem in these Townships you are more than likely will be robbed and murdered no matter what race you are. There is nothing wrong with wanting to live in a safe well run community

I like the fact that you used the word "mostly" cos we live with different races now in townships and they are no targeted. In my experience it is way safer to live in townships than in the city or even surbubs one may argue just that you look at the township from distance, no experience while some of us experience all these places

They proudly say its their faith in God and the freedom they chose(afrikaner accord) to choose God as their leader and for them to never break their promise to God. Interestingly, there is a hate speach bill pending for approval at the moment preventing anyone in sa speaking about religeous belief in God, as this will give you 8 years in prison, under hate speach.

It'😂s an Afrikaner town, same as SA started way back then and they do not have the threat of enforced BEE the rest of the country has to be adhered to. They look after themselves and respect each other. No other black, coloured, indian township takes this initiative and works to improve their own lives, their schools, their surrounding areas. The minute Orania opens their borders, they will have people wanting to have their own rights and religions, freedom of speech etc enforced on these people.

To be fair, I am mixed race and was raised in a predominantly ‘Indian’ area back then and we had a clean and safe town, the whole place was clean, our schools were well equipped and to an extent, we had facilities better than some of the whites schools, if not on the same level and that was because the residents at that time, took the little that they were given and made the best of it. With respect- don’t generalize. Many people, regardless of race are just as resourceful.
