I'm not a geologist but I assume that the few large regional earthquakes (greater than magnitude 6) are considered to be related to a subsequent eruption or to some type of unrest at a nearby volcano and the geologist should pay much attention to that ! I would not want Joburg to experience what Pompeii and krakatoa experienced.

Yes, you are not a geologist. What you are saying does not make sense. Call a climatologist to talk about geology is kind of a joke. He is mostly right by the way. As a geologist living in one of the most seismic country on the globe(Italy) I can say that you don’t have to worry.

Isnt that sad that some of these mines are "legally"operated by foreign mining conglomerates, thanks to our generous gubberment. They never consider our fragile hollow underground tgat we are sitting on . Pity zama zamas get blamed for doing the very same activities that foreign mining conglomerates are doing in our country. Joburg will one day get swallowed by the empty goldless holes left by greed.
