But we as South Africans do walk around with our ID's especially if you have the ID card. it stays in our wallets and purses. What is wrong if we ask foreign nationals to walk around with passports. We are in a crises as a country. If any foreigner is legally here I don't see why they should have a problem walking around with it. I spent time in the UK a few years ago. In fact I was there for two years and I used to carry my passport around with me and I was ok with that. We really need to stop being more concerned about the feelings of an illegal or undocumented person than the issues surrounding the effects of that illegal or undocumented person on our society. Especially if there are criminal elements involved such as selling drugs, kidnapping, murder etc etc.

I was In Europe, and was stopped in a train to ask for my identity. This means you are expected to move around with a form of identification. If a decrease in crime requires me to carry my ID as a South African, then so be it. And it's not an either or situation. The border must work, and in city bylaws must work
