I think the hype about that moment in the trailer is that it acknowledged the players and fanbase as well as how far players will push things. As long as they dont go out of their way to make those silly and ridiculous moments extremely easy and cater to that audience, then the game should be fine. Though they did make the wing suit and made it too good at maneuverability and made it too easy to pull off stunts with it. They should have made the wing suit have shitty turning and if you turn too hard you go into a ragdoll until you regain control. Also pulling out knives and or pistols should take a lot longer to pull off making it impossible to actually pull off trick shots.

It's not Skill Based Matchmaking (SBMM), It's Engagement Optimized Match Making (EOMM). It's purpose is to curate multiplayer lobbies to maximize playtime in cooperation with UI design, battlepass progression, unlocks and daily/weekly challenges to ultimately increase the likelihood that players will spend money on store items. These are the numbers that investors and shareholders want to see. Skill based matchmaking or team balancers are not new to team based shooters and have been used for decades. The new algorithms implemented in CoD's match making service are far more advance.

SBMM retains low skill players, but takes the fun out of the games for higher skilled players or above average skilled players that are actually interested in getting better and not just playing the game 2 hours a week. If you’re always only exposed to similar skilled players or better, you can’t see the personal improvement you make because your stats are artificially influenced by SBMM putting you in lobbies TAILORED for you to lose. SBMM makes sense for dedicated modes, like ranked. But normal lobbies should be wide open and based on ping/location imo

Then that's the problem. If your only enjoyment of a game is watching some random number go up, then it's not a good game. So tired of everyone trying to "go pro" or whatever they think they're gonna get by having a 3+ kd in a game they clearly don't enjoy. People need to take a step back and really think about why they play games. For me it's the experience. The memorable moments. I can pop off on CoD all day long but I won't remember a single one of those matches. I won't remember any of those plays. There are so many other games out there that I can play for hours, and remember most of the things I did that session. I remember the crazy, cinematic moments, the intense, risky plays, and the hard fought match that despite how it ended, gave me a thrill the entire time. So many of the games coming out of the big publishers these days are completely soulless slop. There's no reason for you to keep playing other than some weird addiction to "being better" or keeping up a daily streak to please the corpos who've tailor-made systems to get you hooked. It's just sad really.

@@NatoStorm Edit: I thought I was responding to a comment from a different post I made about XDefiant but whatever lol you’re exactly right - that’s why I haven’t played cod in many months. I realized I wasn’t having fun and didn’t have a good reason for why I kept playing, so I took a step back like you said and stopped lol. You mention experience and moments - when you’re stuck in high skill lobbies from SBMM, it’s very difficult for me to play with friends I want to play with who aren’t necessarily as good as I am. They end up getting dumpstered the whole time and that ruins their experience. I don’t care about stats much either (SBMM does tho) - but getting better at something is part of the fun for me and a lot of other people, and not just with games. Stats just give you a tangible way to see growth, even though I don’t look at them much anymore. People love honing skill - games aside. It’s not the end all be all, but being able to see and feel yourself getting better is always a good feeling. You make a lot of good points, but they don’t really apply to me specifically. You’re right that there are a lot of people who grind dailys and obsess over stats. If you’re doing that and you’re still miserable then you are missing the point. And if you’re not having fun, which I wasn’t with cod, you should find another game. Problem is there weren’t many games with the cod feel until this one. That’s why I wrote my op, to give some people who don’t get why SBMM is a big deal some insight into why. I have fun with this game, my friends and I can play together and we have fun together. Fun is my point, SBMM makes that harder imo. There are still hard matches, and matches we don’t win, but we still have fun because it’s not like that every. single. game.

Whether this next game is good or bad, it WILL be better than 2042, it's impossible for it to be worse than 2042. 2042 was originally being made as a BR only game, then they had to scrap and re build a "traditional" experience from the ashes of the scrapped project, which was like over a year into development or something. That is the reason why we saw specialists in the game, 128 players, etc. I believe either a DICE dev or EA insider confirmed this through Tom Henderson a couple years ago. The next game is getting built as a Battlefield game first and foremost, that alone already is going to be better than 2042, just depends if they can make the right choices in other aspects of the game.

Titanfall 2 hat bots that ran around and it was still satisfying to mow them down and they still brought pressure. Like if Battlefield added bots and they bots could have slight coordination in which they focus slightly more coordinated against the top of the leaderboard players it would make sense. Like the real militaries and soldiers have coordination. If a target becomes a priority it would make sense if they were more effective against that target. So imagine if you are a bottom to mid player on the server and you hear the Bots giving out commands and shouting out coordinates over their comms when they find the gps location of a top ranking player. If bots have a random skill level of 3 out of 10. When they spot or encounter a top player they increase their coordination and combat effectiveness to a 5 or a 6. If AI spots the player and can give out comms, they can relal thatt players loadout or the ai will switch out loadout to counter that player. (Lets say the player is speed running around and in a building with smg's. So the AI if it survives enough to get comms out. Then the AI in the area spawning will pull out claymore, trip mines, etc and perhaps riot shields and shotguns. Imagine if the AI can do spotting just like the player, but leave behind an icon of the type of weapon they saw on that player on the spot location. So instead of a red dot on the map its a red diamond with a weapon icon in the center. Forget the 128-P lobbies. Go back to the 64-P lobbies and the rest of the 64 are AI Bots that are there to get mowed down as well as move in units. Go to 6 player squads and have 6 bot squad mates. In previous games the squads dont always run around together or coordinate. But now with Bots you can actually watch then move around as a unit and demonstrate squad tactics. With good coordination a squad of 6 bots at a 3/10 difficulty could be like 5 difficulty when coordinated. Imagine a bot running around with a Riot shield flanked by 2 shotgun bots as they clear out hallways and rooms. Bots can also be effective enough to shave down a top player health to around 60% So when you as a lower rank player only have to get better angles and finish them off. If I was the top of the leaderboard player and I ran into a 2player +3bot squad and I killed 3 bots and 1 player in that encounter before they killed me. I would leave that encounter happy. Then that lower ranked squad would feel good as well overwhelming the best player in the server and throwing him back into the respawn. It balances itself out. A majority of players go into objective game modes and only care about getting kills.

Have you even checked how Poor man's Battlefield is doing these days? The community (what's left) is depressed, and the Devs are trying to fix things DICE fixed decades ago with their franchise. It's not an alternative to Battlefield games, unless you have really low requirements. And believe me, I really want Battlefield to have proper competition, but that's yet to happen.

BF3 during its prime is still my favorite FPS experience ever. I enjoyed BF4 and the Star Wars Battlefront games quite a bit as well. BF1 and 5 had amazing, tear-jerking campaigns but I never really got into the multiplayer. Things basically just kept falling off with each game. And then there was BF2042..... I really thought they were gonna go back to the good ol' days stuff, they even brought back several of my favorite OG maps in Portal. My disappointment was immense, so it's going to be hard for me to forgive them for what they did with that one. Idc how big the team is, just make a good game. Hearing that it's the biggest team yet doesn't comfort me at all. The way I see it, the bigger the team, the more likely communication, task distribution etc are just going to be chaotic/messy. As for the skill-based matchmaking, I've never really thought about it before. But as a casual player I must admit that I've enjoyed multiplayer games less since that started some years ago. It was frustratingly encouraging when there was someone who was just way better than everyone else in a match (especially in the opposing team). You know like those guys that were just stupendously good with a sniper, tank, helicopter or whatever. I'd always make it my life's mission to get just 1 win on them in that match. I usually failed miserably, but I never grew tired of attempting to get my revenge by outsmarting them in some way or another. And the satisfaction I got when I actually did succeed was nearly unmatched. I often also became better at the game by watching how they played and learning from them. It's been so long since I've experienced something like that and I really miss it. So I gotta agree that skill-based matchmaking makes the typical experience extremely dull. Matches just play out in more or less the same way, you don't do really well or really badly, you rarely get amped up from a competitive drive towards a specific player, you rarely learn from others or get the chance to troll a complete noob etc. You just play a couple of matches, get bored from the literal lack of stimulation and quit only to never look at the game again for months/years/ever.

Having SBMM/EOMM & bad matchmaking in general in both normal mode and ranked, was one of the biggest reasons why i eventually lost interested in Apex, played it less & enjoyed the game less, i only held on to it for longer than was good, since there was nothing better out there( for me) From time to time i'm going back to playing some BF4 & BF1.

I agree. I LOVED BF1 even though I love the BF3 and BF4 modern setting more. The guns, settings, sound design was just so awesome. BF V wasn't bad, but just felt like a reskinned BF1. Still good, but just more of the same. I've had fun playing some BF2042, but something just feels off. I'd rather load up BF4 with my buddies, even with the dated graphics. Or you can play some Insurgency which is such a good game.

Whenever I hear "biggest team yet" these days, I think of all the mismanagement that will likely happen... A big team means nothing if it is not coordinated well. A lot of publishers and developers have shown the last couple of years that they can't properly handle the managing of big teams.

When Belzebub, aka EA boss Mr. Wilson can't say anything better than "the live service will be otherworldly", I can't feel any optimism. I've been playing BF1 for years, but that doesn't mean I don't want them to make another good game, quite the opposite! But it's hard to have any optimism left after these news. Marcus Lehto leaving and hating the experience. Wilson saying same stuff he said about 2042 (biggest team, game looking great, etc.), the talks of yet another BR added to the game like ugly tumor. I'm really concerned they are eager to run the franchise to the ground while thinking they will reach the stars.

if the release goes as is usual for ea dice. I'll be grabbing my copy of the next battlefield game on steam at a massive discounted price a few months after release. If I buy it at all. I sure won't be pre ordering or paying a premium. Learned that lesson with the bf4 launch. I just bought 2042 a few months ago for 8 bucks, I haven't gotten 8 dollars worth out of it before I moved on.

8:40 It's easy to perceive it that way, and it's somewhat true, but it goes deeper then that. As a middle ground player (1.4 kd ratio) the sbmm is cranked so high, you don't ever feel like you're getting a middle ground game with balance. You get put into a baby easy lobby and stomp everyone. Do that once or twice, and then sbmm reads your progress and puts you in an ultimate over 9000 sweat lobbies and you get crushed. You'll have that type of game two or three times in a row, and then the cycle repeats. You don't feel like you earn your wins. You're only winning because the sbmm algorithm gave you a lobby you can win at. It feels fake and manufactured vs old call of duties. I think some people are too young to remember the old cod's at this point, where the matchmaking was the same throughout. You had to earn your way to be able to survive, and it felt really good to do so! You honed your skills and would gradually see your killcounts go up, and get less deaths, start getting killstreaks. It was a great feeling. But I can't imagine having that same feeling now, because I'd have to ask, "did I really get that much better? or did the algorithm just give me enough games to get my stats higher." For anyone wondering, yes it's that bad. The reason Cod players don't leave is because despite cod slowly eroding away, it's still top tier compared to other shooters. battlefield was really the only similar alternative, that wasn't it's own cartoony thing, and DICE threw that in the trash. As a cod enjoyer, other shooters don't really scratch the itch that cod provides. I'm a ground war enjoyer, which is the last mode that doesn't have skill based matchmaking in the game. Once that ultimately gets swallowed up by corporate decisions, I will probably leave cod for good.

The only reason I'm keeping an eye on this upcoming game is because EA gave the keys of the franchise to the guy that created Titanfall 1 and 2 plus he has a bunch of bangers under his belt. He is the ONLY reason I'm keeping an open mind because if anyone can get the franchise out of the mess EA has created, it's him, HOWEVER I'd like to remind everyone that you lose absolutely nothing by waiting an extra week or two after release to purchase the game. EA has done more than enough to lose players trust and customer satisfaction.

lol, that was the first game you pre ordered? That’s unfortunate, mate! The best way to play the pre order game(outside of never pre ordering again) is find a reviewer you trust and if they release their review before release of the game, you pre order. Otherwise you wait. My personal favourite is ACG, since I’ve agreed to the majority of his opinions.

Im not going to pre order and might even wait for a update or two but considering 2042 isn’t and really wasn’t all that bad at the start I will probably get it within the first few months of launch. Definitely won’t make the mistake of others influencing my purchase or support of it if I decide to get it. Ive done that with games like BattleFront 2 only later to find out it was a great game even with its stupid mtx system.
