Thanks everyone for the support throughout this. I saw a lot of similar questions in the comments so thought i'd post the answers here: We do sanitise the kit & area after the session, but it's not that infectious from surfaces - it's droplets in the air which are more likely to transfer if the sheep are huddled together, nose to nose. Which they are, of course, all the time! So it's more about getting the infected ones out asap, and now the ones that have shown no signs on the scan are safer. We'll check again in the future, but for now the main cause of spreading is removed. Humans and dogs can't get OPA - it's a sheep and goat only virus. You can safely eat sheep with OPA. It won't show up until adulthood, so lambs are not scanned.

@@TheSheepGame it was a tough watch, you can see the strain in your eye and voice, but it’s the struggle that shows how amazing a Shepherd you are. The Vet getting the samples have to be clinical but she cares you can tell that. Let’s hope this is the end of the saga for you and recovery starts with the next Lambing season!

Thank you. We just had 1 year old ewe diagnosed with OPA this Summer, was super sick with it like you showed with the liquid pouring out of her mouth. Currently in our first year of having sheep, with only buying five ewe lambs last November, was sooo sad.

No Shepard or Farmer wants to see their animals having to be Culled. it almost broke my Aunty with the foot and mouth and her herd had to be culled. She knew them by name and could regale with whose blood line they were etc it was such a sad time on the farm. Keep you head high, you did all you can and more for them, we see it and thank you for sharing the good, great, fun and sad as that’s part of your Life as a Shepard. ❤

Now I’m starting to see why you say sheep just want to die, your channel, watched by thousands who are not farmers, learn so much about the challenges of feeding us! Days like this are tough, it’s hard to cull an animal and culled animals are a financial loss! Your vet is so upbeat and I’m sure that helps but, better days ahead Cammy!💕🇨🇦

You are very blessed in your vets, Cammy. I was very impressed by your personal vet - the one who did the cesarean on your ewe. Very nice and willing to share his knowledge, as well as being a dapper dresser. Now you have the visiting research vets, Gemma and Ebenezer. Both such positive people. Gemma (sp?) is a born educator. Lucky, lucky to have these doctors assisting you and Lizzie with your sheep.

Interested townie but from farming family here, that was fascinating and very informative. Your interest echoes how much you care for these animals. But at the end of the day, these animals would not have a chance of a life if we weren’t going to send them to market for food. That you care so much for them in life should be applauded. LOL great graphic at the credits of Spot trying to herd the sheep then the Sheep ganging up on Spot! I for one appreciate your sharing the PM video, and will watch it so as to learn more about OPA and sheep in general. I am sad you're having to deal with this issue, but also glad you're not in a funk about it, excellent. As long as you're observing your flock well, then you can grab and nip such issues out quickly, and save the flock from this contageon. AND I am glad to see the ewe that was seizing seems to be improving and eating again, here's hoping she continues to improve and simply was dealing with something she's beaten off on her own [with some help from jaggs?] I am dreaming of having a small, "boutique" flock one day, a hobby flock if you will, since I have discovered I love sheep, a lot. Thanks for inspiring me to learn and find that love of Sheep in me, Cammy!

I remember F & M like yesterday it almost finished me mentally because on 2 occasions i was named by maff as a contact and they implemented ‘D’ notification on farms which we had sheep on tack on saying i had been on a farm next to a F&M breakout the problem was instead of contacting me to find out they just implemented the notice on every farm where we had sheep on tack. The fact was i was on that farm but a full 2 weeks before any outbreak, i was also relief milking on several farms and contract shepherding on several more and never did the contact me!

Caseous Lymphadenitis (CLA) is a bacterial disease of chronic suppurative lymphadenitis of both sheep and goats that has major economic consequences. It is commonly referred to as “Cheesy Gland” or “Lympho”, and is associated with “Thin Ewe Syndrome”. CLA is caused by Corynbacterium pseudotuberculosis.

Sad to have to put your sheep down, but hopefully your participation in this research program will come up with a preventive jab. Once the lung is damaged it no longer works and can’t be fixed. When you squeezed them in the Te Pari it was apparent how thin they were. You have heftier lambs. Especially the one you had to release so she could breathe. I have questions in regards to your comment about culling ewes that show symptoms. I may have missed the info while watching. By the time you notice the weight loss, how long has a ewe been sick and how many other ewes could have been infected? How infectious is OPA? How soon after exposure will symptoms appear on a scan? Do you plan on scanning your flock (since you have a scanner) and having a vet in when you find something? Cost-wise would a preventive jab for a flock be cheaper than culling a ewe or more each year and losing her breeding potential? Even replacing a culled ewe from your own flock is a lost sale. My dad had COPD and it really affected his life. We take normal breathing for granted until we can’t. 😢

Although i couldnt watch the other video you explained it perfectly what was going to happen so good enough for me. I hope that its the last of it and the rest of the flock is ok but a couple of questions that may of already been asked do they then go on to be a food supply and is it the wet wet weather that causes the issues to begin with?

So with the video that you only access with a link, I know I have a lot of young Sheep Game fans who are maybe too young to see that sort of stuff just yet. And some adult sheep game fans who just aren't prepared to look at that either. So I didn't want to make it too easy to stumble onto. It doesn't have ads, so it's not monitored by censorship the same way the other videos are. But during lambing time it was a big problem with censorship, and we did try to appeal it but we personally didn't have a breakthrough. We took inspiration from other channels and folk gave us tips, but we kept getting restrictions. We'll keep trying though!
