I have been working on my setup for a month. Slowly piecing it together and adding components in stages. Having no idea how to do any of it I have looked at a million different resources for this information. Even the Crutchfield guys have been consulted on filters and frequency and what this all means for the performance of my system. No one has even come close to explaining this as well as you did. For the first time I actually know what I am trying to accomplish with these various dials. It may seem like common knowledge to many people but I had no idea what any of these were or how to set them up properly. This information helped me mode than you know. Thank you!

This video helped me out a lot. Thank you. I wanted to add, I may be wrong but I think your Sub Sonic is set to 20hz, not 30. Thinking of it like a clock; 10hz=7:30pm, 20hz=9pm, 30hz=10:30pm, 40hz=12pm, 50hz=1:30pm, 60hz=3pm and 70hz=4:30pm And if I’m accurate, you have yours at 9pm, being 20hz.

Bass Boost helps allow those who use sealed boxes. Without it my single 10 would be short and snappy which is great but it won't hit the low notes. So bringing that up just a tad on my CT-SOUNDS 1000.1D ran to a 1ohm wired duel 2ohm CT-SOUNDS Tropo 10in in a 3/4" mdf sealed enclosure and it allows me to hit those lower frequencies like a 12in Subwoofer could. Personally tested the differences between the two. Very pleased with the results in that situation. Completely understandable that it would not be needed for the majority who use vented, bandpass, and other forms of enclosure besides sealed.

Great video. As a musician who understands gain staging, and sound in general, but has limited knowledge in car audio, your videos are the most intuitive I have found. Very well done. I have one question. How are you filling between the 200hz lowest range mids and the 100hz highest range subs? I’m guessing a set of mid bass speakers? From my understanding, a decent set of 6.5” component speakers will run from as high as 20,000+ hz to as low as 40hz. Listening to your logic , I would assume a crossover at 100-120 hz would be good (I like 10” subs).

That may just be your clipping point in your car. Turn everything down on your amp then turn up your volume till you hear clipping if it does that at volume 14 with no amp setting active then that’s your clipping point or distortion.

Hey man, I really appreciate the video man Thank you for taking the time to help us beginners. Right now, I'm running two 500-watt Zappos on 2 Memphis, twelve 12 600\1200. You don't know how hard I've been struggling with this. One reason is I just put a new Tesla style head unit in my car, and it has DSP. And I was really struggling with hz and crossovers and stuff like that. But that's about to change. I'm about to put 4 10s in my SUV. Cadillac. And I really want to upgrade my system all the way around the car. So im in the process of buying an amp and speakers now, like right now I'm gonna do the mid, the highs and everything. So, I've been studying a lot of videos, man, and you really explained it well. And I appreciate your time. Another one of my concerns is Upgrading my power in my car, like through batteries and. And The alternator I see that you have batteries set up. That was really nice. I've never seen that. But I have been checking into the batteries. They're definitely not cheap. Haha, I'm almost certain that you're running a bigger alternator than your OEM. So let's get basic right here. You Upgraded your power based off what you're actually running in your truck, like speaker. Amps Etcetera Etcetera? But this DSP that's built into this radio really giving me a lot of trouble. Bass is where it's not supposed to be. Too much base volume onn these speakers. Changing it when you turn on and off the radio. It's really getting on my nerves. I wish I could just take it off the radio. Maybe I can. I ask the guy. Alright, man, I tried to cover a lot. I would like to hear any feedback you would have. Thanks. Have a great day. Ohh yeah. I just learned a couple months ago about. How the gain is not a volume. Booster or bass booster. I did not know that all those years. Saying this because I'm going to watch your video. That you're talking about. about gain

Wow I'm actually glad I watched, I already knew and set my stuff up by ear but never knew how the bass boost works like you said most people mistake it for boosting all the bass which I understand now that it doesn't. Interesting about the bass knob thing too I have heard that you get a cleaner sound without it but I still use one

Question ❓ I have a new AAK 6k and a 29AH SCIB bank, alternator etc installing everything today but I have never tuned an amp before if im understanding you correctly i need to set the subsonic based on the enclosure tuning and sub parameters the box is tuned to 42 hz so I need my subsonic around there correct and unfortunately I am running a stock head unit and LOC with stock mids and highs and no type of DSP or anything inside the head unit to tune so im trying to use your video but im overthinking it like everything hell I rode the fence about the alternator for two years and when I finally got it i had it installed in 20 minutes 😂 talk about feeling stupid I psyched myself out thinking i couldn't do it and so far it's been one of the easiest things to upgrade im sure tuning the amp is the same way so it's definitely happening today just want to make sure i am understanding everything correctly

I’m planning on installing a set of coaxial speakers. My truck has tweeters on the dash but I won’t be replacing those. When I install new coax speakers should I unplug my stock tweeters? Or should I leave them. Don’t want the system to sound funny? And also, with the settings on the amp, should I just set the high/low pass filters based off of general settings with highs and mids?

There is a formula you can use. Off the top of my head I can’t tell you what it is. Problem with the formula is there are too many variance it does not account for. I did just do a video on how to set gain with a cheap $40 O-scope. Well worth the investment. As it is superior to using a DMM. Link is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/noKygYNjoZh0g9E

Sir im a begginer.. and im doing a DIY... May question is if the amplifier can only produce 1 ohm in spealers output... Means you can't use this amplifiers on 6-8 ohm speaker?
@NextLevelCarAudio
@NextLevelCarAudio 3 жыл бұрын
You absolutely can! If the ohm load is higher you just won’t get as much power out of your amp! For example, if your amp is rated for 500 watts @ 1ohm and you give it a 2 ohm final load. It will work just fine but will only produce about half the wattage (250). If you give it a 4 ohm load, then it will only get about 125 watt output from your amp. Conversely, If you run at 0.5 ohm, not recommended unless you know what you are doing.... your amp will put out double the power.

I have a two channel amplifier from Pioneer, with the only adjustable dial being "Gain". I have a system control cable, and seem to be able to change subwoofer loudness, equalizer, crossover and other settings on the actual pioneer radio - would I need to buy a new amp or do you have experience with controlling the sub from the head unit?

You said for 6 1/2 inch speakers it the high pass should be about 150-200hz. If I have a subwoofer of 10 inches I should set it to around 110-120hz. Can I increase my subwoofer range or decrease my speaker range so that it blends together. Otherwise I may be losing some frequencies. Also generally should I have the frequencies cross over? For example if I have my tweeters at 2khz, could/should I set my speakers to something slightly above that like 2.2khz so that the frequencies can blend together? This is so that the change in frequencies isn't as notable from speaker to speaker, or to create a better sound stage I guess

@NextLevelCarAudio

In would just switch to HPF and set to around 150-200 so to prevent them from playing low frequencies that could damage them. They can play the highs no problem

On the outputs for amp, if my sub requires 2 ohms, and the amp does 2 ohms, but has 4 outputs like yours… could I only use 2 of the outputs (1 negative 1 positive) and still get 2 ohms to my sub? Or would I only get 1?
@NextLevelCarAudio

If it is a monoblock amplifier then both the + and both the - are connected together internally inside the amp. So yes, you can just use 2.

@@NextLevelCarAudio you pretty much answered them in another video. maybe now you can save my setup!! Due to Being lazy, unclear with instructions, and not double checking my wife’s perches. So Can I Use a 700 watt rms amp with a 250 watt rms sub and 4x45 watt rms interiors? 3.Should I get a 5 channel amp Or keep my sub separate? 4. What is the limit before I need to think of upgrading my power? 5. 1amp vs 2 will I need to upgrade power to run two amps even if I do not reach the power limit from my previous question? 6. Will 4 6.5”at 45watt rms and a 12” at 250watt produce a balanced sound? 7. What is a balanced ratio?

1) Yes, see one of my videos where I hook up V a 300watt sub to my 12,000 watt amp. 2) Sky is the limit. 3) 5 channels are great. Makes install easier. 4) anything over 1,500 watts you need to start thinking of extra battery or Ho alt. I’d do big-3 with any size build tho. 5) No 6) should sound nice as long as you have your filters set up right. 7) creating harmony between your front, rear and sub stages.

I have an LPF on my amplifier as well as on my Pioneer radio. I have LPF on my radio set on 80. Because I have the LPF set on my radio, do I have to set the LPF to 80 as well or do I leave it off? Also, I’m just now learning about the Subsonic Filter. My box says it should be tuned at 42Hz. I also have my Gain and Bass EQ set the same which is at 12:00 and I see that you don’t use your Bass Freq. or your Bass Boost. Should I turn my Bass EQ off and just use the Gain and Subsonic?
@NextLevelCarAudio

Set at head unit or amp, but not both. You want the signal as pure as possible and Is already being filtered once which is sufficient. I never use bass boost as it peaks a specific band which makes it sound just boomy and muddy in my opinion. And is very easy to get into trouble with distortion when using bass boost
