There was a clause in Rue’s contract that required all of her wardrobe and props from the show go to her personal collection. They all had some interesting contract clauses. Bea Arthur had to be allowed to walk around the set barefoot except where absolutely necessary because she hated wearing shoes THAT much. Some of this memorabilia was given to a friend of hers who opened a coffee shop themed after the show in NY - and he dissolved it there. It was way up in Washington Heights at the top of Manhattan. I hope it survived the pandemic. I’d have to ask my brother who works nearby and spoke to the friend of Rue who was around during construction - the guy was so excited and very friendly when he noticed my brother reading a note on the door about the place that was set to open maybe 5 years ago.

I bought the CDs of that wonderful show too, I guess I probably have about half the 180 episodes that were filmed. I did watch it every day until just a few days ago, when the channel switched to another program. Funny thing, that Betty was the oldest of the Golden Girls and yet she's the only one alive now. Rue (Blanche) was much more intelligent and deeper than the part she was cast in, but she certainly did like men, I think she was married 6 times (probably her southern propriety required the license!). And Dorothy (Bea Arthur) was shy and sensitive, not brash like she was, shooting those dagger looks at Betty (Rose)! Proves only one thing, they were great actresses!

Betty has always been my favorite g-girl with her hilarious stories! I love Dorothy's character as well - she can give a look that required no words be spoken. I would say that Sophia probably had the best lines to deliver. However, for me, the funniest moment in the entire series is when Blanche decides to become a great Southern writer and after 3 days of no sleep, wanders in the kitchen looking like she hasn't slept in 3 days, laments her issues of having "writer's block" and lands on the kitchen island where Rose has separated egg whites from the yolks. Her reaction when she sees about a dozen yolks all together in one baggie is simply HILARIOUS!! She just can't make out what she's seeing. One of the best comedy moments that has me howling every time!

Betty looks amazing and is totally switched on....so why is that queen talking to her like she has latter-stage dementia...??
@cynthiaesquibel31917 жыл бұрын
I know just what you mean! So many of these young interviewers talk to actors/actresses of a certain age like they are mentally deficient and it drives me insane! I can't remember which actress it was, but she was being interviewed by a young person, like this guy, and he was treated her like she was retarded. The actress tried to gloss over what he was doing and act normally, but he started treating her worse, she finally had enough, told him where he could go and what to do to himself when he got there, and stalked off..it is so insulting to treat any older person like that, and to do so to a famous talent during an interview that will be televised is just disgusting.

@@cynthiaesquibel3191 Well, MANY of those reporters and interviewers are little less than morons, so it stands to reason that they behave like they do! All they're interested in are ratings and their motto is "if it bleeds, it leads" which is why we see so much blood and gore and crime and murder on TV today. It isn't wanted nor appreciated, but they're too dumb to realize that! I saw Lesley Stahl interview Trump the other night on 60 minutes and her whole goal was to find out something titillating, but he stood up to her very well. Shame really, what goes on today to make and report news!

Don't think many realized the friendship Betty and Rue had or just how many times those two worked together. I’m sorry. But as a gay man that LOVED the Golden Girls/Golden Palace, seeing another gay man talk to Betty White as if she has Alzheimers or Dementia is extremely disturbing. She obviously doesn’t have either and CAN recall the majority of those good times. Never assume. She is sharp as a tack. Don’t talk down to her. The constant “Do you remember? Do you remember?” really pissed me off. But that’s just me. LOVE Betty. And all the girls. The girl interviewing, not so much.

The people who bought these scripts and outfits are some mighty lucky people! I always loved Blanche's (Rue) sense of style and fashion on GG. She always looked great and well put together. I guess Rue felt the same since she made it part of her contract that she got to keep the cloths. I'd love to have some of those outfits and scripts with her artwork on them. One again, the people who bought them are so freaking lucky.
@paintedbird9 жыл бұрын
***** Not necessarily. If I owned them I would not wear them. I just think they would make for very unique collector's items.
@paintedbird9 жыл бұрын
***** Yes, that's true. At the end of the day they are just things, the people who own them or want them are the ones who put value on them. People collect things for many different reasons, it's hard to say what something means to others.
@paintedbird9 жыл бұрын
I would imagine quite a few people purchased items and not just one single person. If it was me, I would love to have a script because I would enjoy looking through it, reading it and seeing any notes that Rue might have made in it. Also seeing the drawings she did on them would be fun and interesting. I think I would find joy in having that because I love the show and Rue's character in particular. As I said before, I wouldn't peraonally wear the cloths because I'm a man and besides that I doubt they would fit, lol. But owning one of those outfits would be fun to me because I love that 80's era fashion and I've always felt that Rue got to wear some great outfits on the show. If I were a woman and had some of the cloths (and they fit) I suppose I would wear them and enjoy the vintage fashion and also knowing that it belonged to someone famous and that I could watch episodes of one of my favorite shows and see that very outfit that I now own. But that's just me. I would assume that the people who bought things from her collection feel quite lucky and get some kind of enjoyment out of the items otherwise they wouldn't have bothered to buy them. I don't own any of the items but would love to, so I would consider those who were able to buy things lucky that they had that chance and the money to do so since I don't. But that's just me.
