@Rowgue51Ай бұрын
It's a rare penalty because it's a new rule. You were never required to submit starting lineups in the past. Every game would start with the announcers discussing what each team might do for the initial line matchup to start the game. They only added the rule a couple of years ago because there started being too many games that weren't starting on time because both teams were trying to get the line matchup they wanted and they kept going back and forth throwing different lines out to counter the one the other team had thrown out.
@missamo80Ай бұрын
The rule has existed since at least 1996 season, the earliest rule book I could find with limited searching effort. It's not a "new rule".

@ThePeavstenatorАй бұрын
Unless you have some opening line matchup strategy there’s no real impact on the game if the wrong lines start. If you have a strategy that doesn’t work because of a bookkeeping discrepancy by your opponent, you point it out and get a power play. If you’re just throwing your top lines out to start the game and don’t really care who your opponent starts and don’t notice them putting the wrong starters out, then there’s no real harm in ignoring it and the game keeps moving. Also unlike checking that the lineup card matches the 18 skaters/2 goalies that are actually dressed, refs wouldn’t be able to check the starters until they actually were lined up and ready to take the opening faceoff. Not really worth adding another procedural thing to the start of every single game IMO.

I'm going to say this for every team that is in the NHL it's a long season in the Oilers proved it last year that it's not too late to turn it around now a lot of Red Wings fans would like to keep the losing going because we want our coach fired but to be honest the Red Wings organization at the rate they're going in terms of overall decisions might have a very long Stanley Cup drought because we either stay committed to this rebuild or we start over and we've already started over before after waiting too long to start a rebuild

Another STUPID non-call so often, is the whack the stick out of a player's hands, which is technically an interference call, and DOES get called... only about once every 100 times it happens (maybe less than that). But WHEN it does get called, that makes it a COMPLETELY ARBITRARY call, that a ref decides to call, for ... ???? some ???? reason; they are DECIDING to call it, instead of COGNITIVELY ignore it, as they do 99% of the time. NHL officiating is just lame... The butt of jokes in professinoal sports, and it's honestly embarrassing sometimes, to justify to someone else, why you're being a fan of the game.

The whole "this wouldn't be scrutinized if it was a man" argument is silly. If it was the first man in a typically female role and the media was making a big deal out of the guy being the first man in that position, then he'd obviously be scrutinized as much as this lady was. It doesn't help that this hiring was for a Seattle team either, since that city is up there with San Francisco and LA as the type of place that's most likely to hire somebody for DEI kudos instead of finding the best person for the job. If she's actually the best person for the job, I don't think people will have a problem with her being there, but the media (including KZbinrs) and team didn't do her any favors by focusing so hard on her being 'the first woman behind the bench'. If they would have just treated her like any other assistant coach hiring (in other words, it flew under the radar) and let her prove that she can do the job well, she wouldn't have had nearly as much scrutiny. It still feels weird having women in the locker rooms for male teams (privacy has been an issue ever since they started allowing media into the locker rooms), but other than that, there's no issue if she's actually the best choice.
@thrillpickle5185Ай бұрын
This is all media. I am sure if it was up to the players and coaches they would have not made a big deal out of it. She helped make their AHL team finalists 2 years in a row, served as captain as a rookie in the CWHL and won gold in the IIHF. I think she is qualified.
@gypsypunk333Ай бұрын
You're just lending further credence to the idea that she's unqualified because she's a woman, dude. Have you considered that a person can be a woman AND the best person for the job? Anti-"DEI hire" arguments are all the same and they're all bad.
@thecaffeinequeenАй бұрын
Remember, hockey is pretty unique in that a lot of people play co-ed until college. And even then, there have been some women on college men's teams, it's not common, but it happens. So i don't think it's as big of a locker room issue as a lot of people like to point out.
