Honestly what I think is that NF is not a try hard and is just trying to make music for himself and his loyal fans who understands him, he doesn't care if he get fame or If people like his music. I get that his music is not that Cathy and words don't rhyme that much but what I care about is only the words the lyrics it's so impactful and I can relate to it spiritually and even teared up listening to few of his songs. You're compairing NF's material that he released in his early years, to Eminem's new projects? hes had so much growth through The Search. Most of your "points", you take Mansion and Therapy Session (his first 2 big projects) and compairing them to Eminem's 9th i think? Around there. His music has never aimed at big wordplay (in his CLOUDS songs he does have a lot of word play but that's after your review so lets not count that), its never been about super over the top word play but more towards emotional meaning. You really shouldnt compare Eminem's new shit with NF's old material though! Eminem's first albums werent with a lot of wordplay either, it was just controversial and lots of rhymes... you have no clue what youre talking about dude... his instrumentals/style is insanely unique and powerful.

And now, I still relate to his music so fucking much, but I really can't even so much as stand it anymore.

I don't think this was a particularly fair review. You're comparing NF to Eminem, one of the greatest rappers and lyricists of all time, just because he took inspiration from Eminem does not mean they are comparable. In "When I grow up" he literally says "Yeah, I might not be the best in my field But I guarantee that I'ma die real", I think you're missing the point and nitpicking for insane Eminem style bars with in reality NF makes good songs, what he lacks in insane lyricism he makes up for in his ability to make a catchy hook, and the fact that he has relatable subject matter. For instance, if we are going to judge talent purely on how insane the word play and bars are, you could argue Juice WLRD isn't very good, his Emo Punk Trap Rap style could come across very corny, most of his songs don't have insane lyricism, but rather Juice made songs that you could feel his passion and emotion behind, the same sort of passion and emotion you can feel behind NF's music. I think you're just mistaking his drive and desire to be the greatest with him actually thinking he's a master class lyricist. Stop overthinking and just enjoy it for what it is.

I mean he’s proven throughout literally everything he’s released (4 complete albums, multiple mixtapes) that his flow is a bit uncreative and he can’t really come up with original bars. His lyricism is a miss. There are people who have maybe 2 albums and less time in the game that have more creative flows and production than he does. I was an OG fan, found him 7 years ago in 2015, and was hoping to watch him grow but it seems he only stays where he is. I want him to evolve and grow as an artist but it’s almost a decade now and he seems to be rooted to the spot and hasn’t bothered to improve any of the criticisms of his music. I don’t think it’s insane to compare Eminem and NF, I mean, flows have adapted and changed over time but are we really to discount a comparison just because someone has a bit more experience than the other? It’s just basic creativity and it should be what gets someone into rap in the first place. This medium should be word play at its finest but I just find myself disappointed with him time and time again. I get that he can make good songs, but that DOESNT make him a good RAPPER. Just because he discusses real issues doesn’t mean we can’t dissect his flow and critique him in the hopes he improves. This just seems so mean spirited for an essay in which the guy clearly wished the best for NF. We all do.

I've grown up listening to hiphop, both commercial and underground stuff, so a different backstory than you.. But.. NF is not the best lyricist. I will say he's getting way better with his new stuff from 2021. But that's not the 'be all end all' of being a rapper. His delivery is pretty good, and his cadence is getting very good. And, for me it's also a question of whether I would play a particular song over and over. And I do find myself going back to his songs over and over... He and his producer Tommy has developed a style that is pretty unique. And the way he builds up a song nowadays.. From low intensity to high, to the payoffs, is pretty awesome actually. So no. NF doesn't suck. He is not a bad rapper. But he's definitely not the best rapper. Does he make catchy songs that warrants repeat listens? Yes, absolutely.

yeah I agree with this. The main point made against NF were about his lyrics being not having the most rhymes as physically possible and that some are corny. The corny one is fair and so were the ones about lines that weren't related to another like the one with visual criminal political etc. However I think the part where he critiqued this "last year had a breakdown, thoughts tellingm e I'm lost getting too loud, had to see a therapist and I found out something funny's goin on up in my house" for not having doulbe rhymes on the final two syllables was a bit silly. Like just because you can doesn't mean you should. I think aesthetically those lines worked really well imo and it's never bothered me. It's the kind of thing you only get bothered by if you're looking for rhymes wherever possible but I would say you don't have to do that in rap. Like the instrumentals work really well with NF and clearly to this guy to be a good rapper stops at your level of technical lyricism. I still think NF is a great storyteller and his production meshes really well with his songs.

The thing that's different about NF and other rappers, he created his own lane, there's no other artist, especially in rap, that digs into the mind the way he does. You're looking at him from a practical emotionless perspective. His fans knows he doesn't have the most intricate lyrics, it's the way he words it so that it's relatable, he doesn't need to be the "rap god" he's opening minds up to deal with their mental health issues, in that he may not be the most talented rapper, but he's certainly the most talented artist I've ever encountered. Idk if you understand how bad some of our mental health can be, but Nate has dug into our minds through his music, he tells us we're not alone. Ok so I am not just going to dislike your video because you dissagree with me but I am defending my opinion considering I love nf. You talked mainly about his rhymes and saying the lyrical miracle son which yeah that kinda sucks but everything in that song is great. To the cinematic beat that hooks you to the rest of the lyrics that constantly get stuck in your head it's a great song imo. You also mentioned that he says I have a doctor but I ain't got no patient's on one of his songs he says it differently which for me works enough. You also mention he makes the last 2 rhyme and you probably know more about music then I know do but from my experience as a critic it all matters about the flow. If the flow is rough and bumpy it doesn't land for me at all but I think that nf has great flows for the most part. I respect your opinion but I definitely disagree NF FOR LIFE.

Em also adds plenty of personality and dimension to his music beyond just “sad rapper being sad/angry yet again”. The few cuts where NF really shines are the ones where he flexes his technical muscle in like a storytelling way (literally “Story”) instead of just sounding like yet another 3.5-4 mins of him being so deep in his angst he’s going hoarse just to get his point across. Like, the comparisons of him to an even more melodramatic Recovery-era Eminem are so spot on. Eminem also has fun songs on his albums, more so in quantity than depressing ones I’d say. This is something Nate doesn’t do and that’s why he’s for the most part one-dimensional.

Ik I’m kinda late to this video but I wonder if your opinion has changed at all since NF’s release of Clouds the mixtape. I feel like many people who had similar issues to yours with NF had a changed perspective when listening to clouds. For example Fantano listened to Lost ft Hopsin and Clouds and actually gave them pretty positive review. I feel like you can see a lot of improvement in NF’s music lyrically. Now sometimes in clouds he gives corny confusing bars such as in That’s a Joke when he’s says “that’s like looking at Mt. Everest and calling it a small hill” but overall tracks like Story, Layers, and Drifting really impressed me

Also doesn't understand that rap not only focuses on rhymes but also message. just wow.... someone who didn't listen to some of the most iconic rappers for years tries to tell me, who listened to them since I was 8 years old, who is good and who is bad..... edit: yeah Eminem put some weird extreme rhymes in his songs, but this is also a reason why some people don't like him as much as they used to. It is complicated to catch every rhyme and why he pronounces things like does. Eminem is a Rapgod, but some people like meaningful songs they can listen to while driving, cooking or whatever. That's true! And as I said, he is definitely helping a lot of people by his specific choice of topic in mental health. However, I think if you are looking for artists with clean topics, more than just women, sex, drugs, and partying, there are many other artists you could choose too. I think a lot of Chance the Rapper's stuff generally has better topic choices, like NF does. Chance's song "Long Time II" is a good example of a discussion about mental health and his faith. Logic is similar. 1-800 is in the same vein. *THAT BEING SAID* I'm not trying to get anyone to stop liking NF. You are entitled to your opinion because in the end, it's all just art and art is subjective. If you enjoy his music, that is 100% okay. Good for you.
