“He” is fear. You’ll find that NF speaks to his emotions often. He anthropomorphizes them. Fear, Anger, Sadness... This whole song is a metaphor for his mind. It’s pure genius. Fear came into his life, picked a room to stay in and hasn’t left since. Now he doesn’t know if it’s him or fear making the decisions. I recommend listening a few more times while keeping in mind that the mansion is his mind. He’s using metaphors to describe what goes on in there and the bad things that have happened that have made him who he is today. The ways that fear came into his life. Also, his stepdad physically abused him as a child. And his mom... well, you’ll get to that. If you like the screaming emotional NF, her song is gonna mess you up! Have tissues!

I love NF, but have to admit I had not heard this song previously. I sat listening, slack jawed and awe struck that NF found a way to truly & clearly articulate the thoughts, confusion, brain searching, soul crushing trauma and pain that doesn't go away. Coating even the core of your bones with soot colored stain. And he managed to presented it all with nothing less than lyrical Perfection !!

i got the same shit like him but my mom was addicted to alcohol and died because of it so i feel like he wrote this song for me and my mansion i was going to therapy for over 3 years to work all the stuff over and now i am not a survivor i am a warrior because i survived and doing it better by my son and he is so proud of me because i handle the whole shit so well last year i got a bad brain bleeding and was lying in coma for over 2 month and as i woked up the docs telling me i can not walk or talk anymore then send me in rehabilitationfor 6 month and because of the music by NF and my own will to live i learned to talk and walk again and now only the left arm is still handicaped but i am back in life with the help of NF i think he saves so much lifes with his music and do not know it greetings from germany you are amazing at your channel so keep going

Years ago, I went through some hurtful stuff by someone i trusted and ended up spiraling out winding up knee deep in my headphones and whiskey .. I found this song and hit the repeat and cried .. I ended up moving and picking myself up until last night when a fried played this.. the chills you feel when you were listening in those moments .. I still get even years later . . I guess I just want to say that’s it’s comforting people expressing the same emotions for a song .. and you have a capability to break down these songs and express things in words that Many can’t ..

Ironically, (i realize this is like a year late.. going through another journey binge lol, but ironically, i see so many listen to this AND intro III.. like, AFTER, and even when getting the points.. still insist on a mv, and i just wanna be like “lol did he not paint the picture vividly enough of getting his ass kicked in a cold basement with a childs fear in his eyes?” Not to mention, it kills the concept for intro II when you finally get the full picture of what it does look like. Then lastly, intro III. yeah, the mv would be “neat”, but for Nate.. it would just be corny as hell spoon feeding the entire trilogy to everyone and not letting us figure it out and watch others for one of the best “holy shhhhh” moments captured. Lol good call on advising your friend, just wanted to throw my similar thoughts in #nfrealmusic 🗝

Sticking with the Forrest Gump references, watching NF go through the raw emotions of this song, its like when your at the spot in the movie where you see Lt. Dan at the top of the ships mast and hes having his screaming match with god. Then as the scene ends, everything is suddenly quiet and Lt Dan swims away to make his peace with god. That damn movie is a masterpiece! Lol
