The Pro Bowl was almost always in Hawai'i from 1979 to 2016 and then it went to Orlando for a few years and then Las Vegas. I believe the event will be on city rotation, however the game has been replaced by a flag football and skills competition. Not playing at full speed makes the game dangerous.

I loved the dodge ball tourney they had last time too. The game itself was never interesting. Same with NBA and MLB. What do we actually wanna see? 3 point shooting contest, dunk contest, dodge ball, home run derby. Any sort of random game that's fun.

The Pro Bowl is played the week before the SB, and it’s the top players who aren’t in the Super Bowl as they were busy preparing for the Super Bowl. And many of the top players often don’t participate even if they aren’t in the SB, because they don’t want to get injured. So people don’t usually take the Pro Bowl very seriously. That’s why the NFL recently got rid of it to replace it with a Flag Football game, which will get even fewer viewers.

An important distinction is highlighted by this video - the difference between the Forward Pass and a Lateral Pass: Forward Pass - Exactly as it sounds, the ball moves forward from the ball carrier's hands through the air. It must occur behind the line of scrimmage, and you get one forward pass per down. If the forward pass is not caught, the ball is dead. Lateral Pass - The ball is thrown to another player in anything other than a forward direction, including directly side to side. A lateral pass can be thrown from anywhere on the field, as many times as you like. If the lateral pass is not caught, the ball is still live - it's a fumble.

I love these moments. For Thanksgiving for almost the past 10 years all the guys from high school that either played on the team or from other schools we would meet at one of the fields around and we would line up 7 on 7 or if we had enough full on 11 on 11. Full contact. Rain heat or snow we would play. Always had great games and was competitive

A little sad they didn't include the greatest 2 yard run ever. Marion Barber against the Patriots was driven back into the end zone then broke like 7 tackles to make it back for positive yardage. Still one of the craziest plays I've ever seen.

The plays with multiple laterals tend to be the last play of the half or last play of the game. It's kinda a desperation play to try to score a touchdown if they're too far back to throw a hail mary.

The Pro Bowl used to be played the week after the Super Bowl, but due to lack of viewership(no one wanted to watch football after the season was over), it’s now played the week before. It still gets poor views, but now it’s because none of the “best” players participate so they won’t be injured before the championship game.

The players bring their families for a vacation after the the Pro Bowl, typically the last game of the season. I went to the 2009 Pro Bowl in Hawaii. I had press credentials. I stayed in the same hotel as a lot of the single players. Had a great time.

When I was a teen back in the 60's we came up with a game that combined American football, soccer and rugby. The ball was always in play. It was like those multi-lateral end of the game plays but all throughout the game. You could also forward pass or kick it. It was constant action and everybody got to handle the ball. And of course it was tackle football. Needless to say it was a blast.

On the Green Bay play, Daz said “number 12 was open there”. He was, but you can only throw the ball backwards . He couldn’t have gotten the ball from where he was.

In a "backyard" game the talent difference between players is vast so the best players can run tricks (laterals, flea-flickers, misdirections, etc) without much risk of getting caught. in the pros the talent difference is minuscule and the defense is well-trained and fast. you can't get away with tricks very much.

Pro Bowl is held on the Week BEFORE the Superbowl, this was done to give the Superbowl teams an extra week between the Conferance Finals and the Superbowl, and by placing the Pro Bowl the Week before it allows some marginal Pro bowlers to make the squad since none of the Players headed to the Superbowl compete in the Pro Bowl.

Before the AFL-NFL Merger (1968?) the NFL held the PRO BOWL in L.A. Coliseum a week or two after the NFL Championship Game. But soon after the 1st Super Bowl interest in an All Star game fell off.....so to encourage player support (more games in a season plus more playoff games caused many players to opt-out) they relocated the game to Honolulu. The idea was to entice the players to bring their families etc and take it easy in a nice tropical location. However the players are now tired of the long season and just don't want to get banged up more. What is really missing was the College All-Star in August. This game was played in Chicago. One team was made up only of rookie players just from the recent NFL Draft and they played the current NFL Champion. It was always the first preseason game. It was stopped because franchises didn't like their best draftees spending 2 or more weeks NOT LEARNING their yeam plays etc and getting hurt.

@@mortensen1961 yeah, the agreement was finalized before 1966 season and the first NFL-vs-AFL Championship was in January 1967 (I was there, my ticket was $15 or was it $10). The teams reorganized for the 1970 season under the NFL.

the only issue with these clips is the people making them only use videos from like the last three years and so they miss tons of the most legendary "backyard football" moments. I'm guessing lots of people only want pristine HD footage so they miss most of the stuff like 2010 and before which is a shit ton of the greatest moments in football. Also it's a younger crowd making the vids so they draw more from what they actually saw. It's like when you see a highlight vid titled "Greatest of all time __________ moments" and then it's only clips from recent years and you're like "no Joe Montana, No Walter Payton, No Michael Jordan, etc?"

Go BIRDS! Good choice of team. Fly Eagles Fly! Edit: Pro Bowl was moved to the week between the Championship games and the Super Bowl (any player that was to play in the Super Bowl was exempt). It wasn't always in Hawaii. One year they tried to increase interest by having it somewhere else. It was almost always in Hawaii though. It was a bit of a vacation for the players that made it. They're doing away with the Pro Bowl game and just have a skills competition. Edit 2: Didn't expect the Cunningham duck of Bruce Smith there. Bruce Smith is the NFL All-Time sack leader. Cunningham ducks him in the endzone without being able to see him, and then throws a TD pass that goes 65-ish yards in the air. Amazing. He was the QB that I grew up with. Sports Illustrated dubbed him "The Ultimate Weapon". He has one of the best highlight reels.

When I played high school football in Alabama back during the Ice Age when there were still separate black and white schools , the white schools tended to play a more disciplined , organized game while the black schools were more chaotic with lots of running around all over the field with triple reverses and passes off triple reverses and multiple laterals . Our coaches called that style " n---er football " .They had a lot of very fast players . We went out to the local army base , Fort Mc Clelland for a practice one time and the local black high school was also out there practicing . . When they started doing 100 yard timed sprints in full football equipment , one of our assistant coaches took out his stop watch and timed them .He told us later that he clocked 4 of them at under 10 seconds flat .

For years, the Pro Bowl was held in Hawaii, probably because of the weather, but kind of as a way to incentive players to attend and it was held a week after the Super Bowl. I could never be bothered watching. To try to up viewership, they moved it to right before the Super Bowl. Now they've replaced it with skill competitions.

Trust me, a lot of backyard football is full contact but a lot of the tackles are more rugby style wrapups because you're not trying to smash your friends/family unconscious and believe it or not, landing on someone's cleated heel with bare ribs isn't fun.

Every time I see that clip of the Dolphins running that touchdown back I wonder why was Rob Gronkowski on the field instead of a special teams or defensive player? He had been injured so many times over the previous years that while he was still good as an offensive player he didn’t have the athleticism he used to and it really showed as he just tumbled and fell attempting that tackle.

Surprisingly the 3rd play was a planned play. You can see the linemen stay back to block. The lineman can't go more than a yard up field on a passing play. If it was supposed to be a run they all would be blocking 5-10 yards up field. Very strange play though because on these trick plays the running backs don't normally hold the ball and sell the fake that much before lateraling it back to the QB.

The Pro Bowl is ridiculous. Football is not a sport that should be played half-ass...and that's what the pro bowl HAS to be because they can't risk the injuries with the money involved. I don't blame any players for not blocking and tackling in those games, but it's a BAD product for sure.
