Don't forget that was Sam's first taste of the postseason. He might just be one of those guys that has to fail at things before they succeed. Wish him luck wherever he goes, but it's the McCarthy era here and now.

I hope the Vikes keep Darnold for another year or two. As for me, I do not blame him for these losses; there was plenty of blame to go around for those losses. Good coaching from the opponents exploited the Viking's weaknesses, IMO. I would not fault Darnold one bit if he leaves for another team. The lack of appreciation from a ton of fans surely must perplex him. I wish him the best.

We can’t keep Darnold AND fix the trenches. It’s time to move on.

I wouldn't stay if I were Darnold, he could do nothing well enough for the media or fans as long as McCarthy is on the roster waiting to take over.

@@jiordone8563 Thank you for your reply. We are on the same page. If Sam leaves for another team, I wonder what these "fans" will think when McCarthy wins only 4 games next year? It is possible that will be the scenario. Again, thanks for your comment.

Good morning SKOLmates! Here are 4 thoughts re Darnold's next team: 1. For those who missed KOC's presser yesterday, I will mention that KOC himself said that there were a number of Vikes games which were won *because* of Darnold's excellent play. This does not negate what happened against the Lions & Rams in games 17 & 18....but what it does do is accurately recount the full story about Darnold 's year with the Vikes.. 2. IMHO, if Darnold is to have a chance of success next year, his destination team *must* have a good to excellent O-line, a very good OC, a very good QBs coach, plus a somewhat patient fan base & a patient/constructive local media. For those reasons, IMHO, he'd be nuts to go to the Giants or Jets 3. FWIW, I do not think that it is a sure thing that Darnold's debacles at the end of the Vikes' will continue wherever Darnold lands. If he goes to the right place, he just may continue to improve as he was doing for most of the season under the guidance of the Vikes' Quarterback Whisperer'. Darnold proved his critics wrong after he signed with the Vikes, and he may do so again....stranger things have happened every year in the NFL! 4. While it would be an awkward situation, I think that the chances of Darnold wanting to return to the Vikes - and be willing to take a rather low salary to make it happen- are greater than folks may think. The same goes for KOC's interest in Darnold, but with the provision that it is McCarthy's job to lose. Although KOC seemed to be impressed with Daniel Jones, I guess it's possible that either (a) Jones wants to sign with another team, and/or (b) the Vikes decide to let Jones go. So, fans should keep this in the back of their minds, just in case....

Luck to Darnold, just not in MN!!! Time to move on. We don't need another wannabe, or Cousins, or question mark in his game. Everyone will blitz him now.
@jiordone856311 күн бұрын
and maybe he'll find a team/coach who will know what to do when they do blitz. The Vikings were not ready for that.

With the current state of QB's in this league, half the teams in the NFL would be more than happy to take a 14-win QB!
@Blade33211 күн бұрын
Don't underestimate the angle where Kwesi gets someone on the horn who doesn't think they can get Darnold on the open market, but would be willing to trade to get him into the door for a year to see if he could be the guy. Regardless of what happened the last two games of the year, QB's don't "Luck" unto 35 TD's 12 INT's in 16 games without having *something* in the tank. It's a shame though, as if he had played well we'd be looking at 1st and then some compensation from teams for him or JJ in trade.
@jiordone856311 күн бұрын
Darnold to the Steelers would be interesting. They are a team who almost always has a defense, and they like to run the ball. Plus, I would like to see someone like Tomlin make Darnold tougher and stop babying him so much. Perhaps that is a good fit! Wish Darnold the best, he seems like a great dude.

Darold will have increased value because of this years performance.

Some teams just want to get over .500, and Darnold certainly fits that plan.
@marcvanherr468311 күн бұрын
The tag and trade is still the most viable scenario. You stated you thought he'll sign for 30-35M. The tag is about 40M. If a team wants him and doesn't want to compete with other teams driving up the price, tag and trade is the solution. Once traded, they sign him for 3 years at $100-110M with an out after 2 years. This gives them an improved team and an opportunity to find the long term QB, whether that's Darnold, another FA, or the draft. The Vikes get a little draft capital, maybe a 2nd and 5th round picks and use the cap space to address the OL and DL problems.

A lot are saying keep him to back up McCarthy. That ship has sailed. Look at how flip floppy most of the Vikings fanbase is, having Darnold and a healthy McCarthy on the same roster now is begging to create the most toxic QB situation in the league. Is it fair to McCarthy to start him knowing that if he struggles two games in a row a ton of fans will turn on him, the media will fan the flames for clicks, and everyone will be calling to bench McCarthy for Darnold? the reverse is true too if Darnold tried to start again. Gotta do the "Cortez burning his ships" thing now because there is no going back.
@coreyczech11 күн бұрын
I'm really not seeing a lot of Vikings fans saying this. It seems like an overwhelming majority of comments, no matter that channel or platform, have Vikings fans all in on McCarthy with no desire to pay Sam. Not sure where you're getting that idea from.
