5:42 - Even though he said defer, he told the Head Referee "Yes" when asked if he wanted to kick. Given how the Cowboys gave multiple different answers as to what they wanted to do to start the quarter, I feel that the NFL made an error by intervening. (Even worse, apparently the Rams were told that they were receiving both kickoffs and were not told otherwise until just before the second half kickoff.)

The referees should not correct the players at all. If they don't know how a coin toss works in the NFL, they need to go back to school. Especially the clip at the end. The ref should not have asked him to "confirm" that he was sure with what he was saying. If they can't pay attention, they will learn the hard way to pay attention the next time.

The Patriots Jets clip near the end was a low scoring game with strong winds where the Patriots offense struggled throughout but their defense was solid. Slater wanted to go with the wind rather than receive the ball, but by saying "kick" he opted to kick and gave the Jets the choice of which direction to receive in. Slater should have simply stated which direction they wanted to go. The idiot commentators confused everyone by claiming that the ref misheard or talked Slater into kicking when he really wanted to receive -- he wasn't trying to receive, he was trying to go with the wind.
