this is where the phrase "game of inches" becomes LITERAL lmao
@rhmayer14 жыл бұрын
Not only at the end but also at 1:15:26 when the Seattle TD should've been called back for both of 2 extremely close call reasons. (1) It was delay of game and should've been blown dead. If you slow the video way down you can see that at the instant the clock changes from :01 to :00 the snap had begun, barely, but the ball at that instant had only budged along the grass, but wasn't yet lifted OFF the grass. When the ball came off the ground for the snap the clock was already at :00. It's not when the center begins the snap; it's when the ball comes off the ground - and Seattle was late. (2) Russell Wilson was, IMO, completely over the line. 100% of his body weight was on his forward foot - way over the line of scrimmage. His back foot was completely off the ground and in fact virtually all of his foot was over the line, except for his toes. I can't believe the rule is that the QB just needs to have airborne toes remaining behind the plane of the line for the pass to be legal. I don't understand that rule anyway. Everywhere else, EVERY line (line of scrimmage, goal line, all boundary lines - ALL lines) are defined by the front plane of the line. So why is it OK for the QB to cross the plane of the line of scrimmage when every other player must play by different rules, observing the plane of the line? It makes no sense to allow a QB to step completely over the line except for a trailing airborne toe and still have a pass be legal. If that's true then you should able to sack the QB in the same location and it still be a sack for no gain (without gain beyond that trailing airborne toe's location - that's where the ball should be placed), which would be crazy and just shows the inconsistency. I'm actually OK with the rule if they made one change: the QB can step over the line of scrimmage to pass, but the ball must be released - must leave his hand - behind the plane of the line of scrimmage. Then I'm OK with it and it's consistent with all other player's ball handling requirements. Indeed, literally a game of an inch (not even inches) and a second (not seconds).
@mikehamill2894 жыл бұрын
@Robert Mayer That happens all the time. the play clock goes to zeros and then the ball is snapped and no Delay of Game is called. Obviously it's when the ball leaves the ground, thats considered "in play" but the league is very lenient when dealing with Delay of game penalties. In almost every game this occurs at least once. Also its when the ball and the quarterback's entire body are beyond the line of scrimmage that makes it an illegal forward pass. His back foot, airborne or not is behind the line. Like CC said, it was very close, but it's the right call. Also, the pass starts when the quarterbacks arm goes forward not when the ball leaves his hands, and on this play his arm was back and his back foot was behind the line of scrimmage, then as he moves across the line of scrimmage the forward motion begins to release the ball, which is legal. They paused it at the last second of his wind up and the moment he was beginning the forward motion and his back foot was still behind the line of scrimmage. If he was winding up and didn't throw it right away or pump faked and brought it back and his leg moved beyond the line of scrimmage, then he began he forward motion again, that would be illegal. Either way, yes, we are talking about a matter of seconds. But this particular play does abide by the rules.
@rhmayer14 жыл бұрын
@@mikehamill289 Yeah, I guess. I've never noticed it before - the late non-call for delay. Maybe once or twice. Regarding the QB scrimmage line/pass call. Yes, it was legal technically since the shadow of his toe was still behind the scrimmage line. ('m being facetious; actually his toes and about half his foot was behind the line above the ground.) I just don't get the rule. It makes no sense to me. No other player is allowed to cross the line - ANY line. In fact not just the line, but the plane of the front of the line. Why is it OK for the QB to do what no other player can do? Why is he allowed to advance the ball from ANYWHERE in front of the line of scrimmage (without running)? Pretty soon we'll have a guy catch a ball out the back of an end zone - but his trailing toe was still in bound so it's a TD.... In my opinion NO part of the QB, not the tip of his forward toe, should be beyond the plane of the line of scrimmage until after he releases the ball. That plane of the scrimmage line - that's just like the sideline boundary: not even a partial step over the plane of the boundary line is legal. Oh well, It is what it is. I just don't understand the reasoning for it.
@mikehamill2894 жыл бұрын
@@rhmayer1 I guess it's all technicality. But in my understanding, they made the rule for lineman, so they wouldn't be running all over the place, they can't be running downfield so it makes it easier for defenders to cover eligible receivers. It equals the playing field in a way. That's why when lineman are eligible receivers, the PA announcer announces that they are an eligible receiver. Football is a tough sport to keep up with all the rules. It's a game that makes sense and flows well when the rules make sense. Hopefully it doesn't get to the point where receivers can catch the ball out of the back of the end zone. Personally the rule that always gets people I talk to about the rules, are the "ball placement" rules. Like why is it considered a touchdown if the ball crosses the plane or touches the pylon but the feet of the player in possession are no where close. Or how a player can cross the line of scrimmage when passing but if part of his body like his feet and the ball are behind the line, its an eligible forward pass, how those are acceptable but a receiver can get the ball with his feet inbounds but the ball is out of bounds and its considered a catch. That trips up a lot of people. The ball placement is so important in most circumstances but in others it doesn't matter at all. Some rules are just inconsistent for sure. That's the game.
@rhmayer14 жыл бұрын
@@mikehamill289 Yep, it is indeed a complicated game. I agree with you 100%; it flows smoothly if the rules make sense. It's really an amazing and unique sport. No other sport has these kinds of huge influencing factors, like ball placement intricacies (where is the ball when his knee/elbow touches?) - both where and when (space and time) are critical, clock management, the 12th player (the crowd), the weather, field conditions, luck of the ref's call affecting reviewability/overturning, etc. The game itself is unusual in that it's like a series of explosions (with actually only about 30-40 minutes of actual playing). I guess you could say the same for baseball, except in football every player is critical and active, yet one player on either side of the ball, can make THE play, for that explosion. And then on to the next...

As a 49ers fan I will always have a certain level of aversion towards the Seahawks. But with that said, I've always loved their stadium. In my opinion it's the most beautiful structure in the NFL in terms of architecture, design, and location.. The way in which you can see the Seattle skyline in the backdrop only adds to its appeal. The only thing I would change is the turf. I absolutely despise artificial surfaces in outdoor sports.. Football is meant to be played in the elements, which is a big part of the reason why the game is played in the fall/winter months..

He was very ill the whole year with a bad liver and we all knew his time was running out. When the 49ers stopped the Seahawks at the one, I was so happy!! I ran and hugged my doggie with joy. I remember always doing that when the Giants won all three World Series games. The next day was his last day on earth and I cried. It was tough but he is at peace and now reunited with his friend, my female labrador named Sparks who passed in 2011. In a way, I feel like the 49ers won for my dog as a final gift before he passed. We may not have won it all in the end, but I’ll always be proud of them Niners for the season. Go 49ers!!! R.I.P Charlie!!!

This game was so indicative of the league these days. The line between good & average teams is so close. The many games that are decided late is so common that it is exciting to watch any scheduled. Seattle & Frisco is always the NFC's best, I think, in SF or Seattle.

57:00 WE BROKE THE BEASTS BACK! Jimmy G leading Wilsons passing yards by 3-1 going into the half at 13-0 and this is after Jimmys beast of a game against New Orleans 48-46 on his pass to Kittle on 4th down. And this year people are screaming for a rookie phenom(LANCE) that has a high ceiling but only played 1 year in divison AA collage and has yet to take a snap against unfriendlies. People are stupid, and moreover need to think things through more and count on the proven commodity instead of the what ifs and maybes or could be's. Trey Lance will get his shot but in the meantime people need to go back and watch Jimmy G play the stretch games of 2019 against top tier teams and realize that Jimmy gives you the best chance to go deep in the playoffs and Superbowl.

I can't believe how often veteran players are able to leverage fame and past success to get contracts. There's only 4 positions that former stars really contribute if used correctly. The craziest of the 4 is corner. I don't understand how it works but it does. I'm a lions fan so I'll mostly use examples from the lions. For most of the 2010s the lions had excellent defense with above average d line but excellent secondary. A 30 something dreadlock having CB Mathis came in and worked with Darius slay. All that knowledge went to Diggs, Lawson, Quinn ihedgibo and tons of other secondary pieces. Sherman, the guy on Vikings, Peterson all use intelligence and instincts to beat speed. Then on snap count you can use old receivers and pass rushers to be incredibly effective. I remember the lions getting tons of production from anquon bouldin. More than most 1st round 22 year old receivers. Then guys like freeney on falcons, Suh on Rams and eagles and von Miller and JJ watt make 15 snaps have real value. Then of course veterans are always useful as back up QB. They can pass knowledge on but can also easily come in halfway through a game and start the next 2 and win at least 1 of the 3..I wonder how often a starting QB actually plays 17 games. Sure guys like minshew and cooper rush are just as good or maybe better but guys like hoyer, Daniels, henne McCoy and mccown have always had a place
