I don't know the first thing about being a NFL but I know acting out of desperation is always a bad idea. If I'm the Vikings I would gladly take one of the top 3 pass(Turner, Verse, Latu) rushers at 11 and one of Penix or Nix with the 23th pick before over paying for McCarthy or Maye.

23 pick after your 11 gives you a great O/D option - build the team don't stress about an individual (particularly one you wont get unless you had over the keys to the house) - it's a team sport

It depends on the what the Patriots do, I can't see them passing on their guy if they are going QB and picking another Jones at 11. If the Patriots don't go QB and you deal with the next 2 teams who will not take QB when they are on the clock. The Giants are in a better position if they want to trade up because the team probably gets the same guy at their position while 11 is beyond the premium players.

I'm not sure that's entirely right, the odds of hitting a star or all pro is only slightly lower in the 20s but the salaries of the players and 5th year options are much much cheaper so there's a statistical argument that picks in the 20 are the most valuable.

I think Florio is actually incorrect about who has the leverage in a potential trade with the Chargers. Sure, Harbaugh is probably a little pissed the Vikings didn't just hand him the job 2 years ago. But think about all that's happened since then. He's won a National Championship and is now the head coach of a team in the other conference. Recency bias and self preservation are strong human instincts. Here are my two reasons why the Vikings actually have some decent leverage: First, Harbaugh will want his guy, his QB, McCarthy, to go to the best situation, which is definitely the Vikings. And second, if he doesn't "let" the Vikings get McCarthy at 5 , then there's a high chance of either the Broncos or the Raiders trading up to get him just a few picks later. There's no way Harbaugh would let JJ go to his division rivals! Now of course if McCarthy is somehow picked at 2 or 3 and it's, say, Drake Maye teams are trying to trade up for at pick 5....forget it. Harbaugh will demand ALL the picks to trade up.

Sitting on current picks will get Kwesi fired by the Wilfs … they have basically told Kwesi to get a generational pick and don’t act like native Minnesotans and stand pat for safe picks and avoid “overpaying.” It really is “ No guts, no glory.” You want to win. I see it as the players around the new qb and the coaching and staff and system - you have to be the outlier to fail in the Vs system … it does happen, see Trey Lance, but it’s rare It happens often on woebegone franchises that have a poor or stingy owner and a HC that is dismissive of the offense and has a poor roster (Jets in the past)
