Harold jackson should be in the hall of fame
@fortynights15134 ай бұрын
I agree. Through 1983 when Jackson retired, he retired second in receiving yardage, and still top ten in receiving touchdowns and receptions, and in 1981 and 82 was top ten in yards from scrimmage when running backs are included. He didn’t have the playoff career of some other receivers who have made it to Canton from the 70’s, but he also arguably never played with a prime Hall of Fame quarterback unlike most of the Hall of Fame receivers from the 70’s (he played with Joe Namath but in Namath’s final season, and he played with John Hadl who some say may belong, but he got pretty much the last year of Hadl’s prime). Say what you want about advanced analytics, but recently Football Outsiders released their play by play based DVOA stat for skill position players for the 1979 and 1980 seasons. Their stat found Jackson to be the best receiver in the NFL in 1979, and still eighth best in 1980, and their stat for quarterbacks found his quarterback Steve Grogan to not be a top ten passer at the time. At that point we are in his 11th and 12th seasons as a starter, and two and three years removed from the last accolades he received, and if so, then he must’ve had good longevity.

Texans at #21 feels Criminal, we've only had 5 seasons where a WR hasn't reached 1,000 yards in Texans history, and we also have the most 1,500+ Individual receiving yard seasons by a TEAM despite being 22 years old. Although I do get Teams have more storied histories than ours.

@coltaine5034 ай бұрын
When my man Largent retired he held every possible record for a receiver until the great Jerry Rice came along. That would be receiving yards, most receptions, and touchdowns. He was also the first receiver to ever accumulate 100 touchdowns. That was starting with an expansion team in its first season tucked away in the PNW.

So are we just forgetting Jaylen Waddle, who before Puca set the record for rookie receptions, has started his career with 3 1000yd seasons (two of which while playing second-fiddle to a ball vacuum in Tyreek Hill), and generally been consistently excellent regardless of who's been QB or lined up on the other side of the formation? Dude has had a better career in Miami than OG (though I loved OG), and arguably better than DvP as well. I don't think that puts them above the Commanders and in the top 10, but even them staying in the same place just leaving him out is atrocious. He's an integral part of that great '21 draft WR class (Chase, Waddle, Smith, Collins, St. Brown).

How are Bengals not AT LEAST top 10? They have had consistently elite WRs going back to the 70s. Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, AJ Green, Ochocinco, Terrell Owens, Carl Pickens, Cris Collinsworth, Isaac Curtis. And these are just the best of the best. I didn't even mention guys like Tyler Boyd, TJ Houshmandzadeh, and Mohammed Sanu. You seriously mean to tell me that there are 13 teams that can do better than that? I don't think so.

@bearcats5134 ай бұрын
@@smudgeous4068 congrats, you can use a calculator. No one team can take credit for his whole career. The video is rating teams by their WR history and Owens is part of the Bengals. Do you expect me to leave him out? And what even is your point? Okay, take out Owens, bengals are still top 10 at minimum.
@smudgeous40684 ай бұрын
@@bearcats513 I would expect the argument to be made for production made by WRs when playing for the team, which TO did not contribute anywhere near as much as the other guys I mentioned. TO had a good season in 2010 for a 37-year-old but he wasn't close to the same player that earned a HoF nod. A single season's performance is almost impossible to crack the list as well, unless it came with a record breaking season or an iconic catch to win a Super Bowl.
