What is it with the Big Ben era Steelers that they seemingly always struggled against AFC West teams😂

@@jwilliwonka yeah I knew there were some exceptions. 2005 afc champ game against Denver, 2008 divisional against San Diego. The years the Steelers had the afc west rotation (2006, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018, 2021), they made the playoffs only twice, that too, in the last week of the season. Just goes to show you how much that division haunted the team compared to, say, when they had the AFC South in the rotation.
@Mr.PoliticallyIncorrect3 ай бұрын
It's because the AFC West teams in this era liked to spread the ball around. It was the one weakness of Dick Lebeau's defense. That's why the Patriots almost always beat us because they opted to abandon the run completely and spread us out

If Coach Shanahan doesn't get fired in Denver, Cutler has a much more successful NFL career

DEN, Shanahan’s final 4 years 2005: AFC Champ game 2006: Started 7-2, lost 4, then won next 2, lost in OT vs SF. ELIMINATED 2007: 5-5, a pair of two-game losing streaks in final 6. ELIMINATED in Week 15 w/L at HOU & SD W vs DET 2008: 8-5 w/a 3-game over SD. Have tiebreaker over them (thanks to RefBall) What happens next? L at CAR: ok… they’re one of the 2 best teams in the NFC. Jake Delhomme, Steve Smith, that RB tandem, Julius Peppers L vs BUF: YOU LOST TO THE BILLS?! Oh and look who is in your rearview?! The Chargers. And it’s been flexed into the final SNF slot L at SD: You get crushed in primetime by the Chargers. Enjoy this ELIMINATION Mike Shanahan had his biggest success in San Diego in Jan 1998. Nearly 11 years later, a loss in San Diego led to his firing And that wasn’t even the biggest choke of the 2008 season DAL: 8-4, lost 3/4 including 44-6 beat down at PHI in season finale as the Eagles clinched the NFC-6 NYJ: Brett Favre as a Jet? That happened. Knocked TN from their quest for perfection and robbing us from 11-0 vs 0-11 on Thanksgiving. Followed it up with losing 4/5, including losing the last game at home vs MIA QBed by Chad Pennington WSH: Jim Zorn’s first season. 6-3 at their Week 10 bye, 2-5 after to finish 8-8. Waived the white flag at SF in Week 17 CHI: 9-6, win at HOU in Week 17 & in the playoffs… I think you know what happened TB: 9-3, lost final 4 that included getting ran over by CAR, losing in OT to rookie Matty Ice, blown out at home by SD who was rallying to make the playoffs, and the final game was losing at home to the team they sent into a spiral after Super Bowl XXXVII, the Raiders. Like Shanahan, Gruden was fired And that’s before we talk about the playoffs. 3/4 Top 2 in each conference lost in the divisional round. PHI in NFC Champ went Full Reid. PIT had a 16pt lead in the Super Bowl, lost it, and then AZ led in the Super Bowl only to see it go away thanks to the Leader of Men & Santonio Holmes What cost Cutler’s career is what DEN did next And it’s a cautionary tale…

Does anyone else find it crazy how the 2007 steelers, who had an easy schedule, won fewer games than the 2008 steelers, who had one of the toughest schedules in the nfl
@mjwatts19833 ай бұрын
Strength of schedule is based on records from the previous season Example 2008 PIT had NE whose record in 2007 was 16-0. That season PIT beat NE 33-10. That should come with an asterisk because that was the year Brady was out for the season with a leg injury in Week 1 vs KC Also the Steelers have a habit of playing down to competition
@Fireyninjadog3 ай бұрын
@mjwatts1983 that's part of it. There's also every 3 or 4 years. In 2004, the steelers faced the entire nfc east, and they did so again in 2008. In 2005, they faced the entire afc south, so they faced the afc south again in 2008. Those are random
