NFL Throwback

Күн бұрын

As you take a journey back in time to visit your favorite team’s home stadiums, please keep in mind that we did not include international games as part of this video. Also, our maps and stadium “chips” are meant to help guide the story. The “chips” are markers and are not always meant to be exact replicas of actual stadiums; the maps are meant to be a “generic” representation of where the stadiums are located. And do us a favor, please load up the comments section with your favorite memories and stories of all the stadiums you’ve been to. Give everyone your top 5 favorite stadiums while you’re at it! And most importantly, enjoy getting to learn about the rich history of all the places NFL teams have played over the years!
The NFL Throwback is your home for all things NFL history.

Liked Jack Dempsey's 62 yarder and he had only half a foot.
@wingedbuffalo4670
@wingedbuffalo4670 Жыл бұрын
@@lemmon-up4er Jack Dempsy was a champion boxer; TOM Dempsey was the NFL kicker who, on 8 Nov 1970, nailed a 63 yard FG on the game-ending play to propel the New Orleans Saints over the Detroit Lions 19 - 17. It was an incredible feat for several reasons: 1) Dempsey -- like most FG kickers of the time -- was an "old style" straight-on kicker ... NOT a "soccer style" kicker. Straight-on kickers had the advantage of getting the ball up in the air MUCH more quickly (thereby diminishing the risk of having the kick blocked), BUT it came at the SACRIFICE of not being able to kick over greater distance downfield. . Soccer-style kickers eventually took over the NFL because of their MUCH greater downfield distance range (the kick starts out much more akin to a "line drive" golf shot which carries over distance, as opposed to the parabola "bloop" football flight path generated by straight-ahead toe kickers. So being able to kick a ball over a crossbar 63 yards downfield as a straight-on kicker is nothing short of phenomenal. 2) The kicking surface at old Tulane Stadium left much to be desired. It was crabgrass and bumpy dirt -- a far cry from the antiseptic kicking surfaces FG kickers enjoy in most games today. 3) Tom Dempsey was a "handicapped" player insofar as he was born without toes on his right/kicking foot (along with no fingers on his right hand). "Some" tried to diminish Dempsey's accomplishment by claiming he had an "unfair advantage" kicking with a "club foot" because the tight leather kicking shoe and wide flat kicking surface was akin to a hard leather covered mallet striking the ball ... with no toes to hurt) 4) Let's not forget Dempsey's kick occurred in New Orleans at or below sea level -- wherein the ball was heavier and subject to far more atmospheric pressure & humidity than it is in Mile High Denver where Dempsey's record was "broken"

I still remember the final regular season game when the Giants played the Patriots in 2007. It was a back and forth game that the Patriots eventually won. A Patriots fan actually looked at me and said "See you guys in the Super Bowl" as we were leaving the stadium. Lo and behold, the Giants and Patriots met again in Super Bowl 42, which the Giants won.

One thing he didn’t mention in the Raiders segment: The main reason Al Davis moved back to Oakland was The City of Oakland agreed to add about 20,000 seats to the Coliseum, completely ruining what had once been a very nice place to watch a baseball game. Now the Raiders are gone again, and the A’s are stuck with that monstrosity known as Mount Davis in the outfield, blocking the view of the hills.

Baseball parks tend to have fairly low turnover from what I know, and many arent named after a corporate sponsor. Even newer ones, like Oriole Park at Camden Yards, was never up for corporate naming rights. So it would be kind of a boring video. The better video would be "Why do they keep playing in this piece of garbage" which would really just be a "highlight" reel of The Oakland Colliseum and Tropicana Field.

@@strongarm_1110 Yeah. The only thing with NBA and NHL teams is that the configurations to an NBA court and NHL rink are similar enough to where the arenas themselves are kind of look the same structure wise. It’s not like for example when the Lions had to play football games at Tiger Stadium.

I wish you would've covered the engineering marvel of the old Mile High Stadium's neat hydroplaning seats. Those things allowed the stadium to be "opened up" to accommodate the baseball field. It was engineered in 1977 and worked by floating the east stands on a sheet of water. That system also never failed over the 22 years it was in service. Another thing about Mile High that was failed to be mentioned is the tradition of the Mile High "Thunder", which was possible because of the metal construction of the stands, allowing for the raucous sounds and shaky camera that is noticeable even now in their new location because it was designed to mimic the sound of the old stadium. Not to mention how the undulations of the stadium design for the new field were made to mimic the Rockies themselves. So many cool facts that were missed about my hometown stadiums.

The old Mile High Stadium was made almost entirely of metal. As fans we would stomp our feet and on big plays, the noise and the vibration from the feet would shake broadcast cameras. Thanks NFL Throwback. Not sure why I waited two years to watch this video. It was remarkably well done. There are a lot of stadiums I wish I was able to have seen an NFL game at, even if they aren't the high end venues of today. When there is a lot of history in one place, sometimes that alone is enough to make the experience worth it. As a 49ers fan Candlestick Park will always be my stadium. BTW, was very happy to hear a lot of the NFL Films music used in the segment. Whenever I hear the work from the likes of Sam Spence, Tom Hedden, and David Robidoux along with NFL Films footage I can't help but brandish a sentimental smile. Cheers boss :D

I grew up in Miami, and Dad had season tickets to the Dolphins games at the Orange Bowl. I was in attendance for many memorable games, including the overtime playoff game in 1982 against the Chargers, where Miami came storming back after being down 24-0, only to lose in overtime 41-38. I also witnessed the Dolphins AFC Championship game victory over the New York Jets in 1983. The Dolphins were never the same after they moved out of the Orange Bowl into Joe Robbie Stadium. The Orange Bowl should never have been torn down, as it was a historic landmark in my opinion. So many Super Bowls and College Football Orange Bowl games that often determined National Championships. Joe Robbie Stadium has never had the same atmosphere as the Orange Bowl did. It's probably the reason why the Dolphins have sucked ever since leaving the Orange Bowl.

Therefore, your information is false and you should revoke your statement immediately due to lack of knowledge about the world, society and sport. I sincerely hope you will consider your allegations and convert to the NFL. Green Bay packers are the only team that matters the most important part of our lives is Aaron Rodgers. You must hail him and hail Mary and you must accuse anyone who says otherwise of cheating in a speedrun. There was a physical altercation between Browns and Jets fans just a dozen seats and a row away from me when beer was spilled. I understand fire exits and code adherence is a MUST (rightly so), but there were nearly three dozen alternative plans for the renovation, many of which would have maintained the external integrity while also expanding the seating bowl (blame the owners 100% for cutting costs). I complain ONLY as a pained architect who knew and adored the unadulterated and pristine beauty that was once Soldier Field. However as a Packers fan, I'm thoroughly conflicted, as my favorite team has routinely SPANKED those teensy lil bear-pups for the last 30 years. GO PACK GO!!!
