Lamar may be the running QB GOAT when it's all said and done but Vick was and is the standard that most modern era passing QB are held to. He was on another level and had a swag to boot. The way he would seemingly go from 0-60 in about 3 steps made him a cheat code in a game and in real life. It's a treat to be able to watch all have so many athletic QB's in the current era (Jackson, Watson, Wilson, Newton, Mahomes, Allen) NFL is in good hands
@strollas4 жыл бұрын
vick has speed but watching lamar is more fun because he has the best jukes in the history of the nfl.

You can say many of the same things about Cunningham. I was lucky enough to see him play - an absolute phenomenon
@arjl8804 жыл бұрын
@@AK-74K I wasn't blessed to watch him live during his prime but from all the tape I've seen, I can agree, he was a QB to behold. Vick had a very prominent cultural impact especially during the early 2000's but Cunningham was a phenom in his own right and era.
@AK-74K4 жыл бұрын
@@arjl880 Randall to me is really a bit of a whatif story. Absolutely phenomenal arm talent too and great accuracy once dialled onto a receiver. But with the Eagles he didn't really improve much reading coverages and his coaches really didn't particularly helped him work on that aspect of his game.
@arjl8804 жыл бұрын
@@strollas Vick had his moves too and one can argue that Lamar might actually be faster. For vick, a highlight that stuck out in my mind is a play in his ATL days against the panthers, where he scrambled, nearly baseball slide to ground, right into a spin move, losing the defender in the process. It's hard to describe but I haven't seen anyone else pull that move. But tbh I don't like comparing them because they each had their own style of running, their own instincts, physique and set of skills and they play/ed in different eras. Lamar being younger and having so many examples before him as well as RG3 in the same locker room has the potential to surpass so many of his predecessors while developing his passing game. If his passing game catches up, he can be truly the total franchise QB package.

In his prime, Cunningham was the most dangerous man in NFL history since Gale Sayers. On top of his athleticism was his unpredictability; you never knew what we would pull out of his hat on any given play. Often on fourth down w/a few yards to go, they lined up in the shotgun like they were going for it and Cunningham would quick-punt it way over the strong safety's head. But sometimes they actually did go for it. The Eagles did the quick-punt just often enough to become known for it, but just seldom enough for it to still be a surprise.

I think it would be awhile before the NFL distinguishes Vick as a H.O.F entry, which is partly attributed to the shame he brought upon himself with the dog fighting scandal and the fact that he did not establish the passing acumen prior to that scandal to justify enshrinement (although his rejuvenated play with the Eagles gives an overall HOF candidacy merit). Y'all forgeting that man that was big in the pocket, Randy Moss mate, the Big Fellah Dante Culpepper! In a 5 year period from 2000- 2004. He avg 85 rushes, 464yards, 5.5 per rush , and 5td's. He had a short shelf life because injuries but this dude was a Tight end in a quarterbacks body. Very powerful.

Straight line speed was off the charts, but Kap wasn't very elusive. He also, unfortunately, didn't put in enough time as a quality starter to be on here. He had a great 2.5 seasons to start, but fell off before he got blacklisted.

What Elway did on 3rd and 6 in that SB was what Arron Rodgers failed to do on 3rd and 8 inside the RedZone against the Bucs in this past NFC title game. That's what separates the legends from everyone else, those key moments.

I’m glad rushing QBs are the new norm, don’t get me wrong I loved/love watching Peyton, Eli, Brady, Favre, Elway, Marino, Rodgers, Brees etc etc but I was a rushing QB and it just always for such great plays to happen and we’ve gotten to watch some great athletes that back in the day coaches would try to change their positions. Watching these quick agile men do their thing is great but I miss bulldozers of QBs like Culpepper, McNabb, and Air McNair especially McNair because sure they could run and hit ya with a move or two and they may not have been fast like Vick and what we have today but they would run over any DB and some linebackers and D-linemen. Those 3 specifically were so damn big and strong Dante 6’5 260, Donovan 6’2 240, McNair 6’2 235 they played like fullbacks out there and they each could take a lick and keep going especially Steve he was the black Favre that man played through so much pain. I miss him and I still think he should be in the HOF, you can’t compare his numbers to how the guys play today since it’s a passing league and you can’t compare them to before his time cause they weren’t passing as much but if you look at his numbers for the era he played in of the late 90s- mid 2000s he’s up there with some greats and his battles with Peytons Colts and Warner’s Rams were amazing.
