Why is there such a disparity in the way PCGS and NGC post prices in their website? Do the go by auction sales, retail sales, or based off information from the Greysheet?
@saltwatersaddletramp72293 жыл бұрын
Ben, do you think the better luster on the S mint coins might have something to do with the quantity of coins struck? In many cases San Francisco minted way fewer coins than Philly or Denver. Could be the dies held up better? Just thinking out loud here.🤔
@TheCoinGeek3 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure it has to do with age of machinery and setting (pressure etc)

HI BEN. A COUPLE OF YOUR PICTURES IN YOUR SHOP KIND OF BUG ME. *:-)* ONE OF MY BIGGEST REGRETS, AND IMPACTFUL LESSON, WAS TO SELL A 1943 P, D, S, CENT ROLL SET. ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO. THE COINS WERE PRISTINE AND LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE JUST OFF THE PRESS. I ALSO SOLD A 1906 PROOF SET:( AND A COMPLETE 1955 ROLL SET AT THAT TIME. THEY PAID FOR A NICE CHRISTMAS THAT YEAR. I HAVE REGRETTED IT EVER SINCE. I HAVE NOT SOLD ANY OF MY COLLECTABLE COINS SINCE. IT WAS AN INDELIBLE LESSON. IT TAUGHT ME THAT I AM MORE ATTACHED TO MY COINS THAN I THOUGHT AT THE TIME. THOSE COINS ALWAYS COME TO MIND WHENEVER I THINK OF SELLING ANYTHING NUMISMATIC. NO SALE, NO WAY. NEW MOTTO. P.S. ALL CAPS BECAUSE ARIZONIANS DON'T READ THE SMALL PRINT. *:-)* *TYU*

Ben, I don't think you addressed why NGC rejected those coins in the tube. Is it because you told them you only wanted them to slab coins that were a minimum of MS65, and the coins in the tube wouldn't have made that grade?
@TheCoinGeek3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I was unclear. Yes I set a minimum grade at ms65 - you have to set a minimum grade.

I have a 1943 MS67 CAC steel cent that has no spots, toning, rust, or haze and i paid $210 for it. That might have been an excessive price but although there are a lot of 67s on the market, most of them have problems. When they are not selling even at $100, the coins must have issues. Sometimes they don't have full strikes because of the hard steel planchets and that's something to look out for.

How much are you saving with bulk submission and what is the turn around time?
@bignubthebobby9863 жыл бұрын
From personal experience, bulk saves about half the cost at the low end
@TheCoinGeek3 жыл бұрын
It was about 7 weeks (which a lot of the grading services are that long right now)- and yes about half the cost of a normal submission!
@andyman02313 жыл бұрын
Reason for rejects? Did you have a grade minimum you wanted?
@TheCoinGeek3 жыл бұрын
The minimum grade was set at MS65
@typeviic13 жыл бұрын
You cherry-pick the best, declare MS65 (or whatever you want as your minimum grade), and submit to NGC a minimum of 100 coins. You also have to be an "elite member".
@jeffw12673 жыл бұрын
The reason the MS65 steel cents sell for $20-$30 is because they are in slabs. A raw 65 might not even be worth $3 to me. Slabs do add value but I wouldn't want to incur the entire grading cost, including shipping and insurance.
@TheQuickSilver1013 жыл бұрын
