Perpetual Testing #266
“Shades Of Pink”
By EVILLOL
Portal 2 Community Maps & Mods
A whole lot of precisely timed, portal sequence placement management, with a load of bouncing thrown in for good measure.
Also, I apologise in advance for the inevitable amount of poor taste innuendo in this video.

This chamber is truly "evil". Portal management and timing in this chamber was fairly smart. I would've never imagined a blue gel transfer like that. You ARE getting better and better at solving these. Also yes, keep the innuendos "coming"
@ngeruma

agreed, the portal placement sequences where complicated in this one and you had to add more steps to it after each part of the puzzle. EVILLOL has commented though that we could of made the last one easier to time if we moved the portals so the water blob was bobbing between the panel down below and the floor panel at the top of the ramp, which makes sense, thinking about it though that makes it harder if you mess up because you'd need to get back to the start to get the water again. I feel like i'am getting better sometimes, but then i still make huge mistakes in other maps as you've seen lol Thanks for always watching and commenting dude, and don't worry there will likely be plenty more innuendo ;)

0:37 - That's... That's literally an iron pressure plate from Minecraft. Texture and all 😆 3:46 - Interesting that you recognized this one but not the previous one :P 29:07 - That is extraordinarily awkward and tight :/ Well done all throughout though!
@ngeruma
@ngeruma Жыл бұрын
0:37 / 3:46 this kind of shows how much i actually played minecraft properly lol, the wood texture was instantly recognisable but the iron was probably crafting past where i every bothered to get to :) 29:07 it was a very tight sequence need at the end of this one, but EVILLOL did comment that we could of moved the portals so that the blob was bobbing between the panel below and that panel up on the same level as the faith plate, that would of let us see the blob better for timing, but i would be reluctant to move the portals for that because messing up would mean needing to get back to the start to get the gel to the far end again, and the timing for getting a portal on that angled panel for the final fling still would of been very tight anyway. Still very satisfying to figure out and pull off, i did like that we had to learn a sequence to get the gel and then reuse and add to that sequence at each part of the puzzle :) Thank you as always!

Interesting use of the iron and wood pressure plates concept from Minecraft, in that the two materials "sense" different things/weights. As we know, of course, Chell has immense girth, so amazingly she couldn't activate the iron one here 😆 Clever chamber design here, for sure. I'm not 100% sure you got the intended solution, due to the super tight portal timing and guess work of the location of the blob near the end(especially when there was a window there), but it got you there just the same. Very nicely done!
@ngeruma
@ngeruma Жыл бұрын
I think EVILLOL probably figured we would all instantly recognise those, and know what to do with them, i only did with the wood one, iron pressure plates were probably too advanced the last time i properly tried to play Minecraft :D I cant see any other solutions for this one without playing it again, but yeah the timing and lack of blob visibility does makes it see kind of wrong, so maybe something to do with faith-plating back out of that ceiling panel at the start and bouncing back through as that would give a lot more air time maybe. As always, thank you!
@savasyn
@savasyn Жыл бұрын
I couldn't see another way to solve it either from watching the video, so you may well have done it correctly. Just seems that with how well the other parts were thought out that the end wouldn't be such a speed run/Hail Mary. But hey, as we always say, it if works, it's valid! :)
@ngeruma
@ngeruma Жыл бұрын
EVILLOL has commented and pointed out that we could have moved a portal to that floor panel at the top of the big ramp, so then you could have the water blob bobbing between the panel down below and the floor panel which you can see clearly from the faith plate, so yeah that would of made the timing part much easier to judge. I think i'd be reluctant to move a portal from under the water tube though, if you didn't hit the angled panel properly you'd need to go right back to the start to get the water again. Also i was thinking about it last night and EVILLOL had the player learn a portal management sequence, but then add to that sequence for each level of the puzzle, clever puzzle design :)
@savasyn
@savasyn Жыл бұрын
Ah ok. I was kinda wondering about that panel, but I couldn't quite get my head around exactly how to use it just by watching. Definitely would have made the timing easier. Still super tight on that shot to the angled panel though. Screw it up and hit quick load or start over :/

EVILLOL has clearly wanted to see how Minecraft blocks would benefit science when placed in the custody of Aperture. He deserves bonus points for also adding the clicking sound effect. However: a Minecraft pressure plate covers a 14 pixels by 14 pixels area on the ground, and those in the chamber are 16 pixels by 16 pixels. This means that, actually, they're basic blocks impersonating their pressure plate counterparts. The sound effect makes up for it though.
@ngeruma
@ngeruma Жыл бұрын
Yeah EVILLOL adding the sound effect too was a nice extra level of detail. and Aperture probably changed the scale to avoid patent infringement, they have very clever lawyers like that :) Thank you for watching and sorry for the late reply

Nicely done! It was nice seeing one of my maps played again, now I just gotta wait another 6 months or so till the next one XD.. In regards to the ending you could have made it a tad easier for yourself by getting the blob to juggle between the floor surface in the room with the faith plate and the floor surface which you needed to bounce out of (hopefully that makes sense). That would have allowed you to keep track of where the gel blob was. Sadly the portal shot at the end is a bit tight and there's not much else to do other than have good aim but it was all intended so good job.

Hey dude! Thank you so much for recommending this one and of course for making maps and sharing them with the community, sorry also that it's been so long since i last played one. I see what you mean about using that floor panel at the top of the ramp that would of made the timing a lot easier to see, i think though i would be really reluctant to move a portal from under the water tube though, as you saw it took me a few goes to actually get a portal on the angled panel for the big bounce, and moving to that floor panel would mean having to go back to the start each time to get the water again. This was very clever portal placement management though! i like the way you had the player learn a sequence right at the start, and then we had to use the sequence again, and again, but each time adding more steps to it! and yeah that made for a very satisfying launch to the exit, very rewarding. great work dude! Thanks again for everything! and for still watching these too!

The first square in the ground you notice looks like an iron block from Minecraft. The iron block texture has changed relatively recently though, so you may have to look at the wiki to see the iron block texture. Edit: yeah, I see the wooden pressure plate now
