In my opinion Denso is #1 and NGK#2. No other plugs come close. There is a Denso long life Iridium which has a slighter thicker center electrode than the Iridium power spark plugs. I first tried the Denso iridiums in my 1984 Toyota Supra. I had been using the standard Denso U grove plugs and they were in average condition. When I put the Denso Iridium power plugs in, the difference was like night and day. The throttle response became razor sharp like a race car. My jaw hit the ground, I couldn't believe the change. I have yet to try the new TT Iridium/Platinum. Can't wait to try them. I highly recommend giving them a try no matter what car you have.

You got some good points in there. But, high boost application increases the pressure and heat. An oil cooler, dry sump, electric radiator fan, water cooling could only do so much. A colder spark plug is definitely more friendlier for high boost, high compression applications.

5:05 "I would say the NGK is a more rugged plug". you have that 1000% correct. so I have a high performance motorcycle that needed a Iridium plug . both NGK and Denso made a plug for this model. exact heat range everything. it had an NGK in it from factory when I bought it and it was fine no issues. Well I was replacing a faulty coil, and coolant flush as it was getting to 15 years old this bike. so I decided to do plugs as well as you have to drop the radiator to do it (hence why iridium is the best option for bikes) so I order some NGK's however they call me back and say they are in back order due to Covid. but we have the identical denso. So I bought them. Installed and running perfect. I start to ride around. all good no issues. however after a few days. after the bike had been ideling at traffic light I started noticing the ideal would start to go funny. and when I would take off you would get that classic plug breaking down from heat. once you go moving and cooled the bike a bit it was fine. but you could tell the tell tale sign the plug was unhappy. I tried to get a 8 range heat rating but they don't make them only a 9 to 4 billion. funny they wont go to a hotter range after a 9 (both denso and NGK) anyway I ended up returning these and getting the NGK's back in there. and guess what. no issues ever again. so I would say you are right the NGK's are just more robust. where the denso perform like a more high performance colder plug. I also found out recently Bosche make a plug that suits my bike. now its getting interesting. because a lot of race teams in certain categories state the bosche is even better a not breaking down and handling heat but giving max performance even over NGK's so ill be keeping an eye out for that

As for myself, I'll get what's convenient and cost-effective. Therefore, it's a toss-up for me based upon my car's manufacturer's engine specs. Depending on what assembly line at their regional plant have at the moment of manufacturing, it can be either or. My Honda OE manufacturer specs the Iridiums for the NKKs and the Denso, Denso being the more expensive pick right now. I will be changing out the NGKs to the Denso only since the Denso is in stock today rather than waiting until tomorrow for the NGKs. My 2010 Honda Fit has over 135k and I really don't need to change out the plugs right now because it running fine and the mpg hasn't changed! However, Honda recommends changing them at 100k and since my daily commute is far it will be advantageous for a better fuel economy standpoint in the long run. For those brand fans, be careful and do your research if you'll going to change the manufacturer's recommendations and specs. there's a lot of research and development that goes into the combustion chambers that's designed to work efficiently and engineered to proficiently save us from reinventing the wheel! I haven't seen or confirmed stats of any real wear or performance differences that would separate them apart in quality or durability...

Plugs are specified to an engine on the chart. Meaning all plugs stated on one fits a car so they are the same plugs when numbers are cross referenced. Toyota uses both brands, some of their vehicles came with Denso in one head, NGK in the other head because the heads are actually assembled at several plants. When the engine itself is assembled elsewhere the heads are already together so one side's plugs are often different but it don't matter because the plugs/engine both are spec. Rather it be the engine manufacture choosing a plug spec or a spark plug manufacture that specs their plug to fit engines they are each specified to match & perform correctly together. Only when aftermarket parts are put on a engine does one really need to worry about plug specs/choices. Until then its just the matter of someone's own brand/design choosing, some like myself buy the NGK/Denso laser Iridium OEM while others may buy cheap G-Power NGK and change them every couple yrs why idk?? Done that 30yrs, why go backwards, hell no? Some only use Bosch (OMG help them) others let parts store monkeys behind the counter choose for them? He's 18 and drives his mommy's car, he don't know your car like the maker knows it why ask him?..lol Now Listen- When its OEM stock, the plug chart is made up between the car/plug makers and why each plug listed for a car engine are OEM spec. Pick one and drive on.. But' If you changed something to +/- fuel/air/timing/spark then you sure as hell better learn about spark plugs as damage can occur..Aka: Burn a hole in a piston. kzbin.info/www/bejne/opS9c6CXp6yGqM0 *Peace

Even the gaps remained perfect after 110K miles. I replaced them with NGK Iridiums and there is no noticable difference so far. Time will tell if the NGK's can go 110K miles.

What’s your thoughts on Denso Iridium Tough plug (as opposed to Power series). Supposedly they get 5 times the lifespan over the Denso Power (100,000km for Tough vs 20,0000km for Power). However, the Tough plug appears not to have the U-groove so if performance is the main objective, Tough may be the lesser choice in the Denso lineup. But for average driving I think Tough will be a great choice as it claims to last much longer. I’m also just curious how the Tough plug stacks up against the NGK IX you reviewed. I’m wondering if IX has a better lifespan the the Tough. My research shows they are similar but Denso Tough maybe has a slight edge. Also, I believe the Denso Tough electrodes are 0.4mm which is better for performance as you say compared to the IX’s 0.6mm electrode. The IX advertises life between 65,000km-80,000km, and in some cases around 100,000km with ideal conditions. So my question is if the Tough is expected to last as long or longer, and has the thinner electrode too, the Denso Tough would really be the best choice over the IX, right? I am after long life primarily in my application, but if the life is virtually the same or very similar, the Denso Tough seems to edge out the NGK IX on performance too. I would love to hear your feedback. Thanks!
@DriveTuneMedia
@DriveTuneMedia 2 жыл бұрын
They both are great plugs. Logically speaking the thicker the electrode the longer it will last but maybe the conductors will erode first! I have experience of the IX and 100,000km seems conservative. I have 200k on a set and no sign of quitting.

The chance of a full tip bit breaking off and falling into the cilinder is there but unbelievably small. Normal wear could decrease the size of the tip, but that is really just slowly done with nanoparticles of it at the time. Old ass copper would just melt but the iridium is so little it won't damage anything.

Interesting the claim that a smaller tip will encourage a stronger spark.. a smaller conductor has greater impedance and thus will take more energy to conduct the same amount of current across the air gap. This higher impedance will also create more heat. Probably negligible at these tiny sizes but that is what electrical theory says to my understanding. 🙂

I know I am really late to this conversation, but for Volvo 2.5 turbo enthusiasts in North America, IPD lists both the Denso Iridium Power and Denso Iridium TT as their "performance" spark plugs, and Bosch and Genuine Volvo as their stock replacements. IPD's major Volvo parts competitor in NA, FCPEuro lists only the NGK Laser Iridium Spark Plugs. I was leaning towards the NGK Ruthenium HX but am now considering the Denso Iridium TT as my upgrade from Genuine Volvo spark plugs in my slightly modded 2.5 turbo.

Just did a full Denso to Denso swap on my 07 Camry XLE V6 at 215,000 miles on the ODO and I could not believe how intact the rear plugs looked. #5 was a bit worn down on the ground rod but the other two back there looked perfect. These things are only supposed to last 80K based on Toyota manual and Denso recommendation, but anyone who owns a Toyota V6 knows how difficult it is to swap out the rear set (KZbin it), I can see why they chose to use long lasting iridium plugs. I haven't tried or even wanted to try NGK as most people on the forums will tell you to stick with Denso OEM. Can't say this is true for all makes/models, but it is certain for Toyota.

All cars have their own plug they recommend,,use the recommended but also remmember some coutrys have diff additives to their fuel so if yiu want other brand then recommended..do a research for a plug that works best att your area or climate.

ONLY Bosch platinums last 10lmi, bc they're junk. Any other reputable brand 50kmi is typical. Even copper is usually good for ~30kmi. For iridium the porcelain will crack or coil will fail before the actual electrode wears out.

Do not EVER try to re-gap Iridium plugs. These come from the factory to exact specifications for your vehicle. There's a high probability you will damage the iridium or even break it off using a Gapping Tool. Long story short - get the ones designed for your vehicle! They exist! Use them!
@BPattB
@BPattB 5 жыл бұрын
You can gap iridium plugs with the _right_ tool/tools. Meaning not to round tapering spark plug gapper. If you use the right tool you won't get near the tiny little electrode while opening the gap and then there are tools for closing the gap that you thread the plug into.
@user-hs2hd7wp9g
@user-hs2hd7wp9g 5 жыл бұрын
Of course you should check the gap (not with the coin style gapper but rather the wire style), it could be damaged during shipping.

@@user-hs2hd7wp9g I checked the last set of Densos I put in and they ranged from 42 to 44 factory spec called for 43. The wire feeler gauge has an arm on it that will let you open up the gap without going anywhere near the tiny little electrode.
