This woman was born in Britain. She is not 'from' anywhere else. When someone tell you they british and were born in Britain it is absolutely racist to then suggest they are not really British because of their race. Is it racist in the sense that one holds negative views about a certain race? No. It is not overtly racist in that. But it is inherently racist to think of natural born Brits who are not white as a lower pseudo class of British. Had the aid asked 'what is your ethnicity' or 'what is your ancestry' then there would be no problem. And no doubt this is what the aid meant. And someone's cultural heritage is a vital part of an individual which can absolutely give insight into their motivations and principles etc and is just interesting to know. But it is the suggestion that someone who is from the UK is lesser than another born in the UK based solely on skin colour is racist. Having said that, her later claim that the monarchy is institutionally racist is pure nonsense. This incident actually shows the opposite. That it is NOT institutionally racist. She was made to resign because she BROKE policy and the incident was addressed immediately with no attempt at obfuscation or excusing it.

For example, if one was asked where you from, one could say I was born in Kendal North of England UK, but my parents came here as immigrants from Africa or the Caribbean etc in the 1950s. This avoids another question of where we're your parents born. She may have still been asked other questions after that, about work her parents did, qualifications she got, if she has siblings and what inspired her to get involved in the charity work to do with domestic violence. Usually hosts ask between 3 to 4 break the ice questions. After that Lady H may have chatted a bit longer about her charity work. So it's A regrettable happening that didn't have to happen that way. IS the racism she is fighting an enemy without her or within her? 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Just wondering.

Slightly confused; most Black people in the U.K. celebrate their heritage on an industrial scale: Black History Month, Black Music Awards…yet, when asked by an octogenarian white woman about that very same African Heritage, she’s ruthlessly attacked for mentioning it!!

Can anyone please tell me where we hear the audio of this encounter. Is Fulani's 'hearsay' all there is?

How can you represent a culture you're not a part of? Confusing, especially for a very old woman, I would think. It's clear people also forget how immensely important genealogy is to this group, not because of race, but for the purpose of power. Sounds to me like she was genuinely curious and in her age she was unable to articulate the meaning behind her actions. It's not racist to inundate people from other cultures with questions to learn about them.

This is ridiculous, this woman runs a charity for black woman who are victims of violence, not any women, but black women. She could have prompted the elderly lady by offering up her family’s origins, I see no problems with trying to determining this, it makes for great conversations.

You might even say her charity is racist She seems to do pretty well financially out of it mind you

No, someone needs to talk to you about basic good manners. The intolerance and sense of entitlement here is breath taking. You think, if this was some elderly lady in the queue at Sainsbury's that she would have reacted like this? She had a point to make and made it. Whoopee doo. Big pat on the back.

That's ridiculous; she gets an annual salary of £181,000 from her 'charity', she's never been in a supermarket queue in her life...

It's oerfectly fine to ask as long as you don't persist and aren't snarky. If you want to know their heritage your second question should be "What's your ethnicity ?".

She wanted know your heritage and you decide to broadcast it to the world in order to market your campaign. This woman is from a different era , yes you are a British citizen but where did your immigrant parents come from? Now she has lost her job after serving the Queen and what did it get you?

It’s unfortunate that she ended her “career” with her insistent badgering. She’s of an era where that kind of questioning and behavior was acceptable.

If truth must be told, many Caribbean nationals are very proud of their heritage and would be happy to declare their connections and heritage to Lady Hussey. I am sorry but this was not a case to made about racism, maybe she should have declined the invitation to the function
